3-2 Poland at 4-1 Struthers

  • Ohio
Struthers coming off a 34-20 win over the Hubbard Eagles, and Poland coming off a 13-0 win over the Canfield Cardinals.

    POLAND

    - what kind of offense and defense do they run this season?

    - strengths and weaknesses?

    - what are your keys to victory?

    - who are the playmakers/go to players

    STRUTHERS

    - need to get the extra points to be more consistent missed 2 last week and converted one 2 point conversion

    - need to tackle well like we did against Hubbard last week

    - feed Stewart early and often didn't work him enough against Brookfield when we took a loss.

    - need to catch the ball like we did against Hubbard

    - don't turn the ball over

I would imagine Kuntz would want this game more then any other on the schedule, and if the turnout will be as much for football as there has been for basketball "which it will by far" might wanna show up at 6 to get a good seat, will be more people there then the Campbell game and its also my valley sports game of the week.

Poland runs a little of everything on offense, but a lot from the I. They basically run a smashmouth, mythotical, ball control offense. On D, they run a base 4-3.

Their key players are Jake Wolf QB, Anthony Marchionda WR, and Mike Turnbull FB/LB. Tyler Evan could be a nightmare for defenses, if he wants to be.

Evan is a very strong physical running back. He's around 6'2/220. He has a bad attitude though, which keeps him off the field. Ross Gould will probably get the majority of reps at RB. Turnbull will do a little of everything, rushing, receiving, and blocking. Pollifrone reminds me a lot of him.

they're about the same on the OLine as Struthers, in terms of weight. They're much taller though, with the tackles both being 6'3, and the LG being about 6'2 I think. They go about 240 at LT, 200 at LG, 235 at C, 265 at RG, and 330+ at RT... when healthy. Their starting RG and RT both missed the Canfield game with injuries. The left side can be picked on a bit in pass protection. The right side is the strength of their line, along with their center.

They use the short to intermediate passing game to set up their running game. Marchionda is Poland's big play threat. He doesn't have the size of Elijah Henderson or Colin Harkulich, but he's just as dangerous as either of them. He can burn Struthers on the outside if they don't stay disciplined in the secondary and finish off their tackles.

Poland's defense is lead by their front 7. Turnbull was All AAC at LB last year, and probably their leading tackler again this year. He just punishes people. A.J. Herdman and Shane Evan are very good defensive tackles. Hubbell and Markota are the ends.

They're very tough to run on, and you can bet they'll b keying on Stewart all night.

There are some ball hawks in their secondary, so Muntean will need to be careful with his throws. However, I do think if Kimbrough and Holness remember to bring their hands this week, they could have some success against Poland's corners.

Poland doesn't have nearly the talent or size that Hubbard does. They're definitely more disciplined and better coached though. I'm certainly not taking the Bulldogs lightly. This has trap game written all over it.

Struthers should get the win, but Poland has had the Cats' number for the better part of the last 25+ years.

    Go Cats!!

This is going to be a defense game. This will be a lot like the Brookfield game. Poland has a really good defense, Stewart will have a hard time running the ball in this game , just like the Brookfield game. I see this being a
14-7 game. Which ever teams can make bigger plays out of the passing game , that is who will win this game. Go cats.

Lots of computer points will be riding on this game for region 11. A win for the Cats could help them hold down the number 3 spot for another week.

Cats have to be able to run and the receivers have to catch the ball again this week. If we have the same amounts of drops Friday night like we did
against Brookfield, a Cats win will be difficult.

Only good thing is Poland doesn't have even close to the offense Brookfield has.

Impressive year for Struthers and especially your rb #44. Does he have any scholarship offers yet? And if not is he receiving interest from anyone?
  • Ohio
Not sure on any offers he had visits to YSU and Penn State "against the bucks"
