2012 Ohio Cardinal Conference

  • CCRolly
West Holmes was unanimously chosen as the preseason favorite in the preseason poll taken by media members at yesterday's OCC Fall Dinner at Mansfield Sr. The Knight have never won more than 4 conference games in a season, but now have the bullseye firmly on their backs. How will they react? Thoughts/Comments/Predictions?

The following is how the Poll played:

    1) West Holmes - 56 points (7 1st place votes)
    2) Ashland - 40 points
    3) Mansfield Sr - 38 points
    3) Wooster - 38 points
    5) Clear Fork - 29 points
    6) Orrville - 22 points
    7) Madison - 19 points
    8) Lexington - 10 points

I always get a kick out of preseason predictions. They hold about as much value as a 3 dollar bill. It is what it is I suppose we shall see how it all plays out.

League will be competitive as ever.

I thought coming into the season that everyone was riding high on Madison, but they're predicted 7th?

Not sure I agree with Wooster and CF being ahead of Orrville, but I'm sure everyone thinks the cupboard is bare in Red Rider Country....and that's just fine by us.

All 8 teams will get a chance to prove it on the field.

It'll definitely a competitive league this year! I wouldn't want it any other way, though.

That whole poll is just horrible. Please westholmes 4th at best. I agree with Lexington last that's about it.
Madison won't finish any worse then 4th in the league. They have way to much back from last year to be considered that low. Idn who votes but they are looking at a different conference then I am. Hey I bet only at madison likes it just thy way it is.

    Whoa....
very suprised to see Madison get no love. I thought they were supposed to be a force this year. Also a little suprised to see West Holmes get the nod as favorites.
Lots of bulletin board material in this poll.....gonna be a fun conference to watch this year.

WH has talked about this senior group for many years. Anything less than a league title in what looks to be a "down" year for the OCC would have to be a dissapointment for WH. I don't see any powerhouses in the OCC his season and I can see Wooster winning the league this year. Lex at the bottom seems surprising as well. Senior could also surp[rise some teams with their athleticism.

I believe westholmes will lose to Ashland , Mansfield , Wooster , and madison

I for one don't like the bullseye. I think the league will be very competitive and think anyone could win on any given friday night.

young fart/old fart = broken record
  • youngfart67
We will see west Holmes goes 7 -3 at best

One thing about the OCC....you have to be ready to play every Friday night or you will get beat. Should be a great season for the conference!

I cant wait for this season. I cant remember a time when the league was this even from top to bottom.

As usual, I'm interested in receiving text message updates from OCC schools again. If you go to all your school's games and can text me updates, please let me know, and I'll PM you my cell phone number. I cover the WCAL, OCC, and PAC, and Tweet many scores/updates.

If you wish to receive my scores/tweets as text messages, all you have to do is text "follow AndrewMarcum" (without quotations) to 40404. You will get a confirmation message. To stop, simply text "unfollow AndrewMarcum".

In the past I've gotten some scores from Twitter (Mansfield Sr, Orrville), but texts are sometimes simpler. If you know an account that tweets your school's scores, let me know, and I can follow them.

Problem is, they are rarely correct. Go Arrows!

All the scores I tweet (non-Triway) are 100% from somebody else, be it Twitter or text message. I do receive inaccurate information now and then, but THAT is very rare. Not the other way around.

If I tweet an Orrville score, it's 100% accurate...and most times, if I'm looking for another local school...i find 2 sources with the same info before tweeting it. It's not that hard really.

As far as OCC schools posting scores on Friday nights...

    Ashland - follow @arrowsAD
    Orrville - follow @RedRiderSports
    Mansfield Sr - follow @Tyger_Football

The Mansfield News Journal's Curt Conrad is a good follow for high school sports over in that area. @mnjconrad

Those seem to be official or at least semi-official (like mine).

    Pit,
You do a great job of covering the PAC & WCAL....2 conferences that are sorely underrepresented on Twitter. Every AD should have a twitter account...takes seconds to send out information to hundreds of fans/players/parents.

Mansfield Sr. is going to suprise some folks. Clear Fork may be battling Lexington for last.

I think Senior is good enough to finish in the top 3. A solid season by them won't surprise me in the least.

I was referring to the pre-season polls.

Gotcha. I totally agree about preseason polls. Not even sure why they exist. Especially polls such as the Preseason Heisman Watch List in college football. They narrow the field before the season even starts. Wait a few weeks then zero in on the players separating themselves.
