Brock Macaulay of West Holmes commits.......
-
Mr. 300To Kent State on a full ride. Congrats big unit!!
-
RedRider1Tell me about him. Is he one that schools like because of size/frame/potential? I don't follow WH football but dont remember hearing his name mentioned too much last season.
Congrats to him & his family regardless. -
thePITmanCongrats Brock!

Yes...6'6" frame. Illinois was heavy in pursuit, as were almost all the MAC schools. He plays TE in our offense, so he's a blocking TE mostly...not a glory position in the wing T attack. Plays DE, and the schools were all over him because of his size and potential. -
THE4RINGZCongratulations Brock.
-
youngfart67So he's going to kent over illinois
-
RedRider1I didnt read that Illinois offered. Kent & some other MAC schools had offered.
I'm sure if that's incorrect someone will chime in. -

Mr. 300I don't know if he was offered by the Illini, but he had enjoyed his visits there.

Brock had 8 offers, essentially all the MAC schools and Yale and Colgate. Good player, loads of potential, great size and frame with decent speed. Because of the positions he plays he does not get a lot of glory. But as you all know, getting your name in the paper may make you a good and well known highschool player but does not necessarily translate to college. Luckily, colleges do their due diligence. Congrats to Brock and his family.RedRider1;1236456 wrote:I didnt read that Illinois offered. Kent & some other MAC schools had offered.

No offer from a BCS school......yet. They will certainly take a wait and see approach and Brock was smart to secure a spot now in a program he feels comfortable in. If the B1G comes calling I am sure he would reconsider his decision.Mr. 300;1236669 wrote:I don't know if he was offered by the Illini, but he had enjoyed his visits there.
And yes...it does seem quite odd on the surface that you could play against a kid for a couple years now who has a
DI offer and not even remember it.....but his size and potential....well, there are only so many kids that big. If he has a monster year you could see that offer sheet explode. -
Old RiderI know that we have never had to gameplan for him!
-
1_beastseems to be a few arrogant tongue in cheek comments....
Congrats Kid! Be proud... -

Totally agree beast. Some think there couldn't possibly be a DI recruit anywhere but there own school.1_beast;1240370 wrote:seems to be a few arrogant tongue in cheek comments....

RedRider1I think it's more of a comment on how recruiting works.
Can't teach size...and frame & potential seem to go just as far as the stats a kid puts up anymore.
That's how the system works, good for him. -
Jmar25Congrats to Brock. Comes from a tough family of Football players. His great uncle Jake Fowler was a top high school player in KY in the late 40's and was recruited by Bear Bryant at Kentucky. His uncle Mike Fowler was an All American and is the leading tackler in a season and career at Ohio Wesleyan.
The reason he has picked Kent State was because of where they wanted him to play. This is the only school that wants him to stay at TE. The others want him as tackle and one wanted to put him at DE. -

I think just about everybody noticed that.Greatwhite;1240377 wrote:Totally agree beast. Some think there couldn't possibly be a DI recruit anywhere but there own school.
I thought it was about congratulating a kid on playing at the next level. I didn't think it was about making sure he didn't get an offer from Illinois.RedRider1;1240389 wrote:I think it's more of a comment on how recruiting works.
Stay classy Orrville -
Old Rider
WHAT?? You read into that way too much! Congrats was given and it is very true that colleges see size and potential more than statistics (sometimes) and I think this was a case where Brocks size and potential was clearly the deciding factor for Kent's offer...unless some stats prove me otherwise!Bloody Toothbrush;1243262 wrote:I thought it was about congratulating a kid on playing at the next level. Max Pirman didn't end up at Nebraska because of eye-popping statistics, he was 6'5' 225 and had a good 40 time coming out of high school.
Congrats to Brock, his family, and the W.Holmes football program! -
RedRider1Broc's own coach from the Daily Record article:
My comment:But it comes down to the end of the day that he has the size and the frame, the mind, and he's starting to be a pretty good football player. There is a lot of potential upside for him.
Read into it all you want...but that's how recruiting works. Wont find me faulting him or Max Pirman or anyone other local kid. The days of big stats, and only big stats, landing a kid a full-ride are over. Can't teach size...and frame & potential seem to go just as far as the stats a kid puts up anymore.

5knotsboy..what a bunch of girls. I think it has been pretty well established by ALL that
1. Awesome for the young man to have felt comfortable with committing and receive a full ride
2. He did not "tear" up the conference last year or the year before
3. His offers could explode if WH and him have a monster year because then schools are not only going by potential, but also results
What part of that is getting your panties in a bunch?
We have had both types of recruits here...Those that everyone in the conference remembers the kid after you play us and those that have been recruited more for their potential as an athlete.
I met Brock and his Uncle in Champaign. Great kid and good looking athlete....and as I stated I think it was smart for him to commit somewhere he felt comfortable in the MAC because BCS schools could care less. they will watch Brock's progress this year and who knows what will unfold. Mike Svetina from Cleveland St Ignatius had committed to Miami of Ohio in the Spring of his Junior year. Illinois came into the picture a few days before signing day and "poof" he is a fighting Illini. Similar Scenario with Pirman and Indiana/Nebraska switch. You never know. -
THE4RINGZAt first glance I see how one could mistake the comments of certain posters on this thread as arrogance, I sort of felt that way on my first reading. However, I know both RR1 and 5K personally, and I know they are good people who thrive on seeing any kid from the area succeed regardless of which school they attended.

thePITmanThe Cavs took a player in the 1st round that wasn't even a starter on his college basketball team. There are many, MANY things which don't show up on the stat sheet that attribute to being recruited and able to complete at the next level. I don't care what those reasons are. Even if a player didn't deserve it but got it anyway, or if they're the best player in the country. That player is getting a free education because of his hard work. Congratulations to all kids in that situation, and the best of luck going forward. May it be a sign to all other kids out there that you don't need to be THE star to get a scholarship. Work your tail off like nobody else, play your hardest every second, and you will get recognized. There's a reason you hear coaches say all the time about Olympic/national championship-level athletes - "He/she is the hardest worker I've ever seen." It's no coincidence at all.
I now step off my soap box. -

Unfortunately, we can't all be such manly men as the great 5nots. I didn't think you stooped to name calling. You all gave congrats alright, albeit with the infamous but. Especially RR1. "Tell me about him" Come on, while he may not have been the "star", you all have seen him for football for the last two years and basketball for three years. I think what we see now is damage control. Its like delivering the zinger but preceding it with "with all due respect". At first I thought I was reading too much in to it but then it was even interpreted that way by non West Holmes Faithful.5knots;1243462 wrote:boy..what a bunch of girls.

OK. How's this? I haven't seen an Orrville/West Holmes game in person in a while, football or basketball. Didn't go to football games in 2011 or 2010. Before that's a blur.Greatwhite;1244128 wrote:Unfortunately, we can't all be such manly men as the great 5nots. I didn't think you stooped to name calling. So my "tell me about him" was honest. I don't follow West Holmes athletics.
How's that for you? -
catfanCongratulations to Brock and his family. He's a fine young man. He deserves everything he gets. Good luck at the next level Brock.
