How many games did you attend this year?

  • Sykotyk
I know there's a lot of diehard fans out there they go to as many games as they can. And there's some armchair quarterbacks that simply sit at home and read the boxscores from afar. So, it got me thinking after attending my last game of the year on Saturday how many games the average fan on this site goes to.

And, I'm seeing if anybody is close to me. Last year I saw 56 games. This year I saw 73 varsity games in 16 states (Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Georgia, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas). Most games I saw on one weekend was 10 (Weeks 1 and 2: Crosstown Showdown and a mix of a few events Week 2). I saw 17 state titles games (Ohio [6], Georgia [2], Texas [9]). Next year, if things go well, I'm planning on attending 100+ games in one season to see if it can be done.

So, what say you? Anyone close.

edit: Just to be clear, this poll was intended for varsity games only.

I know I've asked this before, as well... but you travel a lot for business, right? Because, if you don't, why in the hell would you go to that many games?

Yeah. But, I would still see a ton of games if I was in one spot every weekend.

Went to I think 10 our our teams 15 games this year.

In the past I would attend all of our teams games, usually is 13-15 a season, and the alternate night of the playoffs would catch another team in our league so maybe 16-20 would be the max in a year I have attended.

but then i got a life.

I attended 15 Kenton football games this year.

NCF scoffs at your 73 games. Anything less than 100 is just child's play.

Sorry the last one didn't work out for your team. But that was an amazing game.

What were some of the better games you saw?
Boonville (MO) 7, Moberly (MO) 0
Oak Glen (WV) 29, Richmond Edison (OH) 28
Fargo Davies (ND) 26, Grand Forks Central (ND) 21 <-- first ever home win by Davies, 2nd year as a HS
Grass Range/Winnett (MT) 39, Rosebud (MT) 36 <-- 6-man football, both teams were 0-7, last game of the season
Bismarck St. Mary's Central (ND) 14, Minot Bishop Ryan/Sawyer (ND) 8 <-- St. Mary's needed to win by 14 or more to make the playoffs.
    Steubenville 24, Massillon 7 <-- just a great atmosphere.
    Bellaire 30, Richmond Edison 27
Eastern Alamance (NC) 19, Burlington Williams (NC) 14
Powell (WY) 23, Green River (WY) 21 <-- WY 3A State Semifinal
Wiggins (CO) 21, Limon (CO) 20 <-- First round of the playoffs, Wiggins went on to host title, but lost the game
Caddo (OK) 35, Fox (OK) 14 <-- Caddo's second ever playoff game (2nd round of the playoffs) Went on to win state title, 8-Man football
Euless Trinity (TX) 28, Allen (TX) 21 <-- At Cowboys Stadium, amazing game and crowd.
Aliquippa (PA) 14, Jeannette (PA) 7 <-- WPIAL 2A Final at Heinz Field, Quips down 7-6, scored with under a minute left.
North Allegheny (PA) 28, Upper St. Clair (PA) 21 [OT] <-- WPIAL 4A Final at Heinz Field, NA scored a TD where no feet came down in bounds on a catch.
Creston Norwayne 48, Kenton 42 <-- D4 State Title, amazing atmosphere.
Calhoun (GA) 27, Buford (GA) 24 <-- 2A State Title at the Georgia Dome, Buford was 4x defending state champion, Calhoun was 3x straight runner-up. Calhoun had a 2TD lead late, gave up the last touchdown on a botched punt snap that was returned with under a minute left. Calhoun fumbled first play of OT, Calhoun kicked the field goal on first play of their drive to finally beat Buford after three straight state title losses. Epic atmosphere in the dome.
Refugio (TX) 36, Cisco (TX) 35 <-- 2A Div. II title at Cowboys Stadium. Refugio made a lot of people mad for running up scores all year. Almost had this one slip away.
Southlake Carroll (TX) 36, Fort Bend Hightower (TX) 29 <-- 5A Div. I title, unbelievable game. #2 for Hightower (Davis, I think) was a phenomenal athlete. But, couldn't beat the Dragons on his own.

And, I left too early after the Houston Dekaney-Cibolo Steele game to witness the award ceremony. Else I could've witnessed the driverless golf cart take out their coach.

How the hell do you find the schedules to all these games?

I'm pretty sure NCF's record was seeing 100 different teams in one season. I saw 134 different teams in one season. And to be clear, these are varsity games I attended in person. Not watched on TV or JV.
ernest_t_bass;1023610 wrote:How the hell do you find the schedules to all these games?
Calpreps.com projections give you the schedule for the entire state. That helps figure out where to see a game on Thursday or Saturday mostly. And then verify it on Maxpreps and/or the school's own website. Friday nights are much easier to figure.

Also, wanted to make a clarification for this poll: this is for vasity games only.

Wow some of you guys watched a ton of football this year I only was able to get to 12 games, I have a young family so it made it tough to get away, so for me to get out 12 times this year I would call that a success!
  • ernest_t_bass
I saw 14, 17 if you count scrimmages. But that's only b/c I coach, and our team made it to the final 4.
  • thePITman
    19 or 20. Can't remember. That's not counting 5 scrimmages.
  • FairwoodKing
I only saw two, but I had to fly 2500 miles to see them. Last year I saw 15.
  • j_crazy
Watched about 4 games. Dis get to see Patterson high from Patterson Louisiana. They got like 8 division I players so that was cool. BTW Patterson has a population of like 4000. So that's astonishing to me.

Live? Only 1. :( Working midnights really sucks during football season!
