MAL Football Predictions for 2012

I find it interesting to that they think the new league will follow their teams more than the MAL but they may. Well to answer your question as to who the MAL can bring in, there are a lot of rumors out there about several different team joining. There main schools i keep hearing are Elmwood and Woodmore but who knows. I know the MAL AD's are each compiling about 3 schools they want to invite and this thursday there is a league meeting where each will have there list and they will all decide on who to invite. It should be interesting to see what happens. I think the MAL wants nothing to do with LCC haha. Maybe the BVC for LCC. Yeah I think the fit for all the schools seemed to be good even among the non football schools. How often does Carey play Wynford in football? I know Mohawk has played them recently.0311sdp;997458 wrote:I don't think that the Northern 10 will follow their teams any better than the MAL does, and Carey can look at themselves, yes we travel great for football but all other sports not so good unless the teams are really good. We already over the past few years have been playing Riverdale, Buckeye Central, Colonel Crawford in basketball and I don't recall seeing big crowds, now Wynford is a different story, they show up big but they always have good basketball teams as well as football. In football there will be 3 really bad teams in this new league and other than Wynford none of them are very good. Buckeye Central is playing Marion Local for the state championship but that is only because somehow they got sent to the southeast region this year which is always terrible. If they would have played in the Northwest region (where they belong) they would have lost in the first round. I would hate to see the MAL have to disband but who can they bring in? Maybe Elmwood takes another look, Sandusky St. Mary, Norwalk St. Paul, Gibsonburg, I don't know there aren't a lot of D-6 or D-5 schools out there. to pick from. What's left in the NCC are too big of schools to combine with the MAL. I saw that the Northwest Conference voted Lima Central Catholic out of there league but they're pretty far away.
It's kind of dissapointing because I thought Carey and the MAL were a pretty good fit. Travel wasn't too bad, competition was pretty good (if you won 8 games you made the playoffs) sometimes even with 7 wins. I thought the rivalries with Calvert and St. Joe were pretty good and even with Hopewell in the last 5 or 6 years (now that they have good teams) Bringing in Lakota did not do much for the MAL (may have been a bad move) I thought at the time Elmwood would be better if you only wanted to add 1 team. At least you have 3 years to figure it out. -

As far as there being a coach who never played football in his life, i guess there is one who didnt play high school football but played in junior high but i believe Mike Leach and Charlie Weis didnt play HS football so that doesnt always mean everything ( I realize they arent top notch coaches but just an example.) I agree with you that the coach you wanted to get the job is a good guy and was a good player in high school but it is quite debateable that he lives and dies football and knows the game better than anybody when he just opened a business and is, according to his head coach, a strength and conditioning coach which he is d*** good at by the way. I have nothing but good things to say about the guy but I dont think he is ready to be a HC yet he will be a good one someday when he can put in the time necessary. I guess we each have our opinions but each care passionately about St. Joe and want to see them succeed.
Agreed the d coordinator bob gabel is pretty good but he won't be back next year. I mean they have a line coach coaching the receivers it's just a shame. -

We haven't played them since the old NCC broke up around 1990, at that time we lead them 15-10 in the head to head series but they appear to be much better now than they were then. Carey and Wynford hate each other so this should get interesting real soon.rocket streak;999557 wrote:I find it interesting to that they think the new league will follow their teams more than the MAL but they may. Why not Sandusky St. Mary, you guys play them every year anyway and they are too small for the League that they're in. -
rocket streak@Crimson- Oh ok I was unaware he isnt coming back.
@0311sdp- Yeah Wynford has quite the program going right now. Sounds like an exciting rivalry with the hatred between the two schools. I think SMCC would love to join our league, and they could i guess, but the travel to North Baltimore and back for weekday sporting events may be to much but i hope not. I would love to see them join the MAL as I think they are a perfect fit size wise. Not sure how they can stay in the SBC and compete yearly in football with Clyde, Oak Harbor, Huron, etc. They had a decent team this year and couldnt do anything in the league. -

Do you mean huge in size or huge in numbers? Physical size, I don't think Carey is any bigger than most of the MAL teams, numbers this year we had 66 kids out for football and next year it looks like even more, I would agree we have more kids than most other MAL schools but that's because we get them out not because we're a big school. (we should be back in D-6 after next season). The difference is strength not size, I think our weight program is ahead of some teams in the MAL with NB being one of those teams. Damshroder benched 425# anf Tschanen (the little fullback) 385# there were 3 or 4 kids lifting over 400# that is the difference and where you guys need to get to.NBanimal54;1003399 wrote:carey always has a huge team compared to us they should move on -

0311sdpNBanimal54, what schools would you as a current player like to see join the MAL?
-
NBanimal54id like to see mohawk stay, elmwood, gibsonburg, woodmore, so theres a little bit of competition left with elmwood and mohawk

So you feel that Mohawk is easier competition than Carey and Seneca East? I thought a couple years ago that NB should have gone to the TAAC when they had the chance, because of numbers (players out for football and school size) at that time I thought that NB could compete for League titles in that conference. Now the TAAC has upgraded a little bit but next to the NWCC is still probably the weakest league in northwest Ohio.NBanimal54;1005181 wrote:id like to see mohawk stay, elmwood, gibsonburg, woodmore, so theres a little bit of competition left with elmwood and mohawk -

Lol are you serious? Seneca east doesn't compare to Mohawk in recent success. -

Agreed, Mohawk has won as many MAL football titles as Carey and Hopewell Louden, while Seneca East is usually pretty good they don't ever seem to be able to get over the hump and win a league title. I would rate them behind Carey, Mohawk, H-L, St. Joe, and Calvert as far as MAL football success. The only difference that I see between Carey and Mohawk is that when Mohawk is down, they seem to fall a little farther than Carey does when they are down, but when they are good they are really good.Crimson streak;1010748 wrote:Lol are you serious? the past 2 years we have went 3-7 , we've came very close to beating them both years but not SECrimson streak;1010748 wrote:Lol are you serious? Seneca east doesn't compare to Mohawk in recent success. -

Mohawk won the league title 2 years ago. I don't think Seneca east has won one in the last 15-20 years. Seneca east is also decent but never a too team in the league. As for next year I think it is between hopewell Carey st joe and Calvert -
0311sdpMAL football League titles
1) Fremont St. Joe (8) 26 seasons
2) Carey (6) 22 seasons
2) Hopewell Louden (6) 26 seasons
2) Mohawk (6) 22 seasons
5) TIFFIN CALVERT (5) 26 seasons
6) SENECA EAST (2)
7) North Baltimore (1)
8) Lakota (0)
Carey is the all time leader in the MAL in winning percentage with St. Joe 2nd and Mohawk 3rd then Calvert and H-L. Seneca East has a losing record all time in the MAL.
Mohawk has been one of the elite MAL programs while Seneca East has not. NB may in the last couple of years played Mohawk closer than SE but year in and year out Mohawk has had much more League success.
As for next season I think that the League will be wide open with a lot of teams having a shot at the title, my only difference would be I would put Seneca East in instead of H-L. I think that Carey will be down but if the sophomores to be come through then they will be ok but I don't think you win League titles with as young of a team as they will have.
