  Dover should return a pretty nice team for 2012. Most of both lines will be back, as well as some contributors on the outside. The biggest question will be at QB. #7 did a nice job when he was forced into action to replace an injured Swinderman. Will he be the starter next year? Or will they go with an upcoming sophomore? Either way, the offense will look a little different because I don't think either has the kind of arm that Swinderman had. The threat of the deep ball really opens up the screens that were so successful this year. If #7 is the guy behind center, I'd expect them to utilize his running ability which will add a dimension to the offense that we haven't really had much.
  
  Also, has anyone heard who will be on the schedule in weeks 1 and 5 for next year?

  I heard we are gonna "beef up" the schedule Steuby style with St. Rosalias school for the blind from Paducah and the Ontario Amputee Academy. Both home games.

  Actually we heard you were lining up St. Eds and Massillon, or Alikana Subnormal and Mt. DeChantel, we have heard both. Some times the best way to beef up a schedule is to drop the teams that are the weakest. As is the case for alot of teams, if you are in a league you may not have much choice. And some times when you think someone will be good or at least decent, they end up being baaaaaad.
  
  I do suggest at least 6, 7 or 8 home games. Someone has to make the money, it might as well be your school.

  To get a respectable team that will bring a decent crowd and not require a home and home will be a tough sell.
  
  To maximize point potential one of the better inner city Cleveland schools would probably work and would likely be a win.Open up with them,scrap the Thursday opener. Perhaps they could open on Saturday if they want to be different and maybe give some people that work afternoon shift a chance to come to a game.
  
  For the Woodard spot,I would try to get a strong school that will bring a nice crowd.

  I think W.H. just might be pretty good next year they always seem to have pretty good size and were having a decent year before dropping the last 3.
  
  If I were a massillon fan I would be concerned that the tigers played just 3 D1 schools in 2011 and lost 2 of them. I think massillon fans should demand the A.D. start beefing up the schedule so they might be able to start competing with the big boys of D.1

  It's hard to say what Dover should do with their 2 open spots. Currently they have the following teams that are strong opponents and legitimate playoff teams recently:
  Ashland - D2 regional runner-up in '09 and '10. D2 qualifier in '11
  Canfield - missed the playoffs the last couple years, but consistently a quality D2 program
  Tri Valley - just missed winning D2 Region 7 this year. Will be strong next year
  Zanesville - just missed the playoffs in Region 7 this year. I expect them to be a program on the rise
  New Philadelphia - lost by a TD in their D2 Region 5 playoff contest.
  
  Cambridge, Claymont and Coshocton are teams that will win games but have not fared that well against Dover
  Marietta currently is a struggling program.
  
  Do you schedule 2 teams to get more points to try to get a higher seed?
  Do you schedule 1 point-cow and 1 team like Ashland/Canfield/etc
  or
  Do you schedule 1 team that you know going into the game that you have to play perfect to win and that probably out-mans you at most positions. Kind of like the Avon Lake game, or even like a Mooney or Walsh. Does that experience in what could likely be a loss make you more prepared for a team like that in the playoffs? Or is that an unnecessary risk to take because a loss there could mean the difference in a home game in week 11, or not even making the playoffs at all?
  
  or do you schedule another cupcake to give the starters a breather and allow the back-ups some playing time under the lights on Friday night?

  Start competing? Our schedule? You're kidding right? Name ONE traditionally strong program you guys have played, er, I mean, SCHEDULED, since week 1, 2005. And you couldn't even finish that contract. We have played McKinley, Ignatius, St. Ed, Elder, etc. recently, who have YOU played? Get by week #13 and we'll talk.

In addition the schedule has been strong enough to host all but 1 season. You seem to keep forgetting Dover is D3 not D1

  Yeah, Massillon DOES play some smaller schools, but those schools are usually the ones that can compete with anyone, almost any year, schools like Steubenville, Buchtel, Ursuline. But we also play schools that are over twice our size, schools like Mentor and Ignatius, both of which we have beaten in the not so distant past, (Mentor, just last year), so you can drop the losing to the DI's crap. We've also played and beaten St. Ed, 3out of five, and Elder recently. When I look at Dovers schedule, all I see is:

  Avon Lake
  River View
  Coshocton
  Cambridge
  Claymont
  Meadowbrook
  Indian Valley
  New Phila.
  Greenville
  Ashland
  Carrollton
  Canfield
  
  So where are the traditionally strong programs on your schedule? Where are the Walsh Jesuits? The Benedictines? Steubenvilles? Buchtels? Mooneys? I sure don't see them. Your schedule is laughable at best. I know this past years Massillon schedule was a joke, but so was the man who made it. Now that Hall has taken over the AD job, we have added, for next year so far, Fitch and Perry. Has YOUR AD built up your schedule for next year or will it remain a joke?

  If they do beat you they beat thier chest and claim how great they are. Be proud of that!

  I have never heard of ANYONE saying that Dover has a transfer!

  Many schools would love to trade places with Dover. Tradition of great teams under Ifft, and making the playoffs year in and year out. Just haven't gotten over the hump to advance deep into the playoffs.

  Thanks, some want us to be ashamed for not getting past week 13 but as long as our home grown boys keep giving great effort and play with class I will never be ashamed, as a matter of fact I will be quite proud.

  So you're comparing Ashland, Zanesville and Canfield with the likes of Steubenville, Mooney , Buchtel, Walsh? Please.
  
  Ashland Canfield and Zanesville are, "around", twice the size of Dover? Dover has 292 boys, Ashland has 487 canfield 408 and Zanesville 399, for differences of 195, 116 & 107 respectivly. Twice your size would be 584, not 487.
  
  So technically, Massillon, with their 553 boys, wouldn't even be twice your size. On the other hand, Massillon has played St I., with their 1072 boys, (a difference of 519), and Mentor with their 1059, (difference of 506).
  
  Now the REAL telling tale is that since they expanded the playoffs to 5 games, Massillon has reached week 14 4 times, and week 15 once. Dover has never experienced week 14, despite the fact that in their division, the biggest school they have to play, has around 107 more boys than them. Massillon on the other hand, has no ceiling on their division, and regularly has to play schools in the 800, 900 & 1000 boy range.

  I made no comparison of Ashland,Canfield,Zanesville with any teams.
  B.R will not be on a reg season schedule,they jilted Dover twice it won't happen again.
  Dover plays in a league,they have limited openings at limited times. The A.D. tries to match like communities as our non conference opponets.
  
  You did not tell me much about Perry or Fitch,I looked it up and it is not very impressive and you said massillon stepped up.
  
  Dover has 2 openings for next season,I have no clue who it might be it would have to come from a pool that are open weeek 1 and week 5 and at least 1 will have to come to Dover.
  
  I have no sympathy for massillon,they have a million + football practice facility and still can't even make the playoffs,maybe you can petition the state to bump the tigers down to d2

  You have as many state titles as Dover, and they played in week 13 this year.

  Get a chance, ask Coach Ifft about Austintown. He probably knows more about Fitch than anyone in your town.
  
  Tell him that you think Fitch football is "not very impressive" and then ask him how Dover would stack up.

  Fitch is 57-43 over the last 10 years Perry is 53-47 amoung D1 schools both are just above average.
