Week 10: Barberton @ CF Northwest
-
skiisme753NW got some unexpected help from Canton South and St. Charles winning games. A Northwest win will lock up a playoff spot for the Indians. Barberton as struggled this year and it should be the easiest game all year, but you still have to be focused all week and show up on Friday night.

NWIndianNation01I really think the team this year plays DOWN to their competition, so I say it will probably be close...HOPE I am dead wrong! haha
The boys need to be 100% focused and get this win so we can make the playoffs! -
Lockup ScreenI disagree, we blew out John Hay, South, Padua.. We were coming off a big emotional win against Canfield and ran into a team fighting for their lives and simply got out hit. Kids got hurt and younger players stepped in and took over. I agree I think we shoulda blew STA out by 30+ but you will have tough wins like this in a season especially coming off a huge win.

Brutusits usually called a hangover, we learned alot in the st thomas game. we just grew as a team again, this is a team when someones down someone else rises to the top. there is know chest pounding look at me, they all act like they been there before.. TEAM NORTHWEST

I hope you are right! And I hope there is no hangover from the STA game that was too close for comfort! It would be great to get a BIG win before the start of the playoffs!Lockup Screen;942028 wrote:I disagree, we blew out John Hay, South, Padua.. Joe Eitel hasn't updated yet...can't wait to see how things have changed with Mooney and Sheridan losing. -

Why would we need Poland to beat Canfield? I would think we would want the reverse to happen...Lockup Screen;942737 wrote:We sit 5th.....We need Poland to Beat Canfield

Exactly. You need Poland to lose so they don't get any more points, and Canfield to win so that you get points from it at the same time. -
SummaGeez, give Aquinas a little credit, they were a lot better team than you expected and they out hit you and outgained you in yardage. They were no pushover and No, NW should not have blown out Aquinas. The game was what I expected a hard fought win for NW. Barberton will be an easy win and if the regional rankings stay the same, NW will be playing Mooney in round one and will be a big underdog. Riley better perform much better if NW is going to have a chance against Mooney or Stueby in the playoffs because STA shut him down.

I would say unless you want Mooney in round 1 that you would want Poland to beat Canfield.NWIndianNation01;943310 wrote:Why would we need Poland to beat Canfield? I would think we would want the reverse to happen... -
Drums of WarI am a bit new at looking at the numbers, but should we not be rooting very hard for New Philly this week? If they beat Dover will that give us enough points (and drop Dover enough) to give us a home game? I do not see Mooney loosing to Lake, so this is our only shot at the #4 spot correct?
-
fpfpdadchhIf we can have New Philadelphia beat Dover, and Canfield to defeat Poland, then we get into the top 4 and get a home game, thus avoiding Mooney in the first round. I will tell you what, though, there is no weak team in Region 11 from the tenth rank down to the first rank. The state champion will come out of Region 11, I predict!
-
skiisme753Mentor Lake Catholic in R9 will win it all......all the R11 teams are going to beat up on each other.
Why is everyone cowering about playing Mooney? Big Red is the best team in the region and I would rather play on the turf at YSU that in a mud bowl at Minerva or Dover. I say man up and bring on Mooney and knock the hell out of them. -
skiisme753Any updates on the condition of the field for this week?
Just a hypothetical here but.....What happens if NW got a home game and their field was unplayable...whats the ruling on that? I'd guess that it would go to the away team's stadium.....anyone know for sure? -

I'm pretty sure even if Dover losses to New Phila, that the Tornadoes will be at about 25.00, which would be good enough for #4, possibly #3 if Mooney's opponents fall in week 10. I don't think there is any possibility that gets NW a home game in week 11.fpfpdadchh;943519 wrote:If we can have New Philadelphia beat Dover, and Canfield to defeat Poland, then we get into the top 4 and get a home game, thus avoiding Mooney in the first round. If a school is willing to let them use their field as a neutral site (though they may charge rent) it's always a possibility. Doesn't necessarily HAVE to be switched to the other opponent.skiisme753;943592 wrote:Any updates on the condition of the field for this week?

tinman 36summa, yea NW should have blown STA out. Played the worst half of football of the year, penalties, mental mistakes, not ready to play. after a half time pep talk, it was NW football

Summatinman:
Would of, could of, should of, but didn't. An Aquinas fan could say the same thing and it means nothing (without those 4 interceptions Aquinas would have won; if the Aquinas receiver wouldn't have dropped that sure TD pass Aquinas would have won), see how easy and stupid that is. The game was actually played and Aquinas outgained NW and NW's potent offense only managed 23 points and barely 200 yards against a DV team on turf and in good weather. NW also got 4 interceptions (including a pick six), so it can easily be said that Aquinas played one of its worst games of the year also. I am not even an Aquinas fan, but some of you NW fans are a little delusional. Good luck against Mooney if that's who you meet in round one, it could get pretty ugly.
Here are the stats from the game that was actually played not the imaginary game that should have happened.
Aquinas:
Rush yards: 145
Pass yards: 62 (4 Int; Dropped TD the play before the pick six = 14 point swing)
Total Yards: 207
NW:
Rush yards: 141
Pass Yards: 62 (1 int)
Total Yards: 203 -
fpfpdadchhSumma, wow, 4 big friggin yards. But, in the end, I guess it comes down to scoreboard, and guess what 30-16, Northwest wins! St. Thomas also had close games with Marlington and Minerva, so there was no discounting this team. I said that last week. Sounds like you are just a hater. St. Thomas should give CCC a great game. Kudos to St. Thomas for giving Northwest a great game.
-
fpfpdadchhAnd Summa, ask Massillon how it is to get whupped by a lower division tem. They are D1 and Steubenville is D3 and Massillon was dominated in all phases of the game. Division does not matter. Delphos St. Johns in D6 could have beat 75% of the teams last year D1 through D6 .
-
Summafpfpdadchh: I am not talking about you. I am far from a hater. I am pretty indifferent towards NW. I usually check out different games and teams in the Canton area every week and I was impressed by both Northwest and Aquinas. I just can't stand when people don't give teams credit for a tough hard fought game. I thought NW would win but I thought it would be a tough game for NW and I was correct.
-
fpfpdadchhOh yeah, Ursaline is D5 and beat Mooney last Friday, which is also D3. Ursuline might have been the best team in the state last year, PERIOD. So much for the Division disparity comment. it comes down to how many boys are enrolled in the school, not to how much talent is embedded in that amount of students!
-
fpfpdadchhSorry Summa, I get what you are saying. I do not discount any team. I am from a family background of great coaching and a lot of football and other sports familiarity. Any team at any day can get hot and put a hurting on another team, no matter what the past results are. Look at Baltimore and Jacksonville last night. On paper, J-Ville did not belong on the same field with the Ravens. Points well taken, Summa.
Barberton will come into this game looking to make their season by a big win over Northwest. We are basically cross town neighbors who have never played each other before. Northwest cannot take them lightly, period. Barberton shut out Rocky River last week so they are bringing momentum to this game. I think this could be the start of a new rivalry series if they can keep scheduling each other. And I heard that the future is looking good for Barberton. Their 7th and 8th grade teams have been very successful. Never discount any team that has a Sharkey coaching them. -
Summa
No problem. Seriously, good luck to NW in the playoffs. I just don't see the Barberton game being that competitive. NW should be able to rest its starters in the second half.fpfpdadchh;944677 wrote:Sorry Summa, I get what you are saying. I do not discount any team.
