What not 10 choices like last week?coyotes22;941201 wrote:This is it. The big one. -
ThinthickbigredIm not sure . I think it will be a tight ball game . ill take Massillon in this one ,in a very close game maybe overtime .. turnovers will win the game or lose it depending on your perspective .. Still havent been to this game and hopefully someday i will make it . Best HS rivalry in the nation

FairwoodKingI flew in from Seattle to see the Big Red-Massillon game Friday night. Massillon has a very good team. It was just their misfortune that Big Red played the best game they've played in years. I really think Massillon will take McKinley.

I'm not trying to get on you but have you seen McK play? We have a very good team as well and are coming off a huge win ... A playoff spot will be on the line for both schools along with the victory bell... And it is being played at fawcett... I'm going to take McK in this one by 10 or more... But the team that wins this game is the team that comes out and plays with more heart and the team that doesn't make dumb mistakes like personal fouls(which always seem to be an influence in the rivalry games).FairwoodKing;943570 wrote:I flew in from Seattle to see the Big Red-Massillon game Friday night. ThinthickbigredWhen was the last night game between these two ?

That would have to be the 2009 regional championship game. They don't play night games, it's always on saturday at 2.
I believe it was something like 1963 or something like that, McKinley was busted for recruiting, and was not allowed to field a team that year. The following year, Massillon and McKinley played twice, once at about midseason, and the other in week 10 as usual. The midseason game MAY have been, and probably was a night game. So as far as the last REGULAR SEASON night game between these two, I would have to say this would probably be it. -
skankBtw, Massillon won both of those games.

McKAlumni07i just wanted everyone to see this i found on McKinley's website.... the McKinley/Massillon game has only been played "under the lights" 6 times out of the 120 meetings they have had... here is a nice detailed list of all games and the circumstances that were recorded and found for each game individually(exp. coach, record, attendance, place played, and any other interesting fact.)

I found this interesting from 1962.
The Superintendent of the Portsmouth schools reported to the OHSAA that McKinley had "stolen" two of his "star players".
During the ensuing investigation the OHSAA determined that McKinley was in violation of the bylaw regarding "undue influence" and banned McKinley from inter-scholastic football for the 1962 season - "THE DEATH PENALITY".
McKinley’s position was similar to that of many schools today...That the school has no control over what boosters do.
McKinley exhausted all attempts to get the ruling reversed; including OHSAA appeal, Gubernatorial intervention, and an injunction that was taken all the way to the State Supreme Court.
The Ohio State Supreme Court's final ruling was that the OHSAA was private, independent organization and as a member McKinley was bound
to follow the rules and decisions of said organization. -
