The State of Struthers football

  After starting 4-1 the Wildcats have been in hibernation for the past three weeks. Bad play calls, poor execution, and many other things have factored into this once promising season. People want Asher out, which i hear he very well may be. I have no clue whats going on here. Can someone put some insight into this please!!

  I've heard rumors about missing money and issues between Asher and the gridiron club. I hope those rumors are just that because when Asher was hired he was supposed to be the guy that would get the Struthers program turned around. Cutting ties with him after just one year because of one mediocre season will not help the program. But if there are some unethical things going on, who can blame the Struthers people for wanting Asher out?

  I was waiting for this kinda thread until after the season, but I had a feeling that the stink would hit the fan sooner than later.
  
  I would've been in favor of Asher getting one more year to redeem himself, before I found out about the missing money... but now that this has come out, it's hard to support him.
  
  That stuff, combined with 3 straight blowouts, him missing practices and not taking the offseason workouts serious, isn't good. It just seems like everyone is going through the motions. Even if they manage to somehow beat Hubbard and Campbell, Asher would probably still get canned.
  
  Who could blame Carden, the BOE, and the Gridiron Club for being upset with Asher?
  
  I was warned about this kinda shady behavior before the season started, and I drank the Kool Aid anyway...

  Hes on his way out... spent more money then he was given, but honestly who is going to be the next coach if he indeed does get canned? anyone hear of anyone?

  They tried to warn me about him before the season started. I didn't want to hear it.
  
  Apparently, the only reason he got the job in EL, was because he's buddies with the superintendent over there. They got burned when the guy that was passed over for the job filed a greivance, or whatever it was. And then when Asher left, he burned them.
  
  I have no idea who Struthers could get to replace him. It might be a good idea to bring in a defensive coach. Maybe Ungaro from Howland is still interested... then try to get Zetts to come back and run the offense... that could work, right?

  Oh man please leave Zetts out of this conversation. I had to deal with that all last off season ... I would think Zetts would have went last year. And with the success Campbell has had in the past 3 years and how the program is running with lower classmen and there success campbell is poised to stay in the winning seat for some time to come. I just hope Zetts will stay. But man strange things have happen....
  
  But i really am sorry that Struthers can not catch a brake. I thought for sure that Asher would get Struthers turned around. and at the beginning of the season it looked like it was going to happen this year. I was convinced that struthers might make the playoffs. Again you might be our rivals but i would never wish anything but the best for the struthers faithful. And trust me we know how you feel.... But if this is true about the money situation. This dude should be banned from coaching for good. That's just plain disrespectful..

  I still think Ungaro might be able to do some good. I don't know, maybe Nagle would stay on as the OC if Zetts won't come back. Did Nagle ever come back after he walked out during the BL game?

  What money situation ? May I ask .. Is the coach accused of taking money from a booster fund?

  zetts was offered alot this offseason and turned it down...i think that horse is dead

  I agree !! Lets just hope its not all this bad. I tried to talk to some old family members from struthers but they claim that its not as bad. But i can tell he was not giving any useful information. But if he said its not that bad then its probably not. Mr Horvath usually knows a ton about the Football program. But if hear anything ill surly hit you up with some privet messages. But as i said i can tell he was holding back something. I have known this man and family for over 20 years.

  All I can say is, I told you so.... Sounds like everything that he did in EL is happening in Struthers... I will tell you, what was said about him in EL is all true and then some... Only difference here is, we didn't have anyone to warn us...
  Hopefully you guys come across a guy like Coach Prescott who cares for the kids, community and building a program, no matter what lumps he has to endure his 1st couple seasons... I applaud Coach Prescott for cleaning up Asher's mess!!!

  I've heard some things about Asher. Cocky,arrogant, doesn't care for the community. All have turned out to be true. Struthers should never get blown out three weeks in a row with this schedule. Firing his OL coach mid game, cursing.... The guy is a decent coach, but he's someone who comes in as an assistant in my opinion. We need a guy to rebuild the program, like a bayuk type. Ugh go cats....

  I don't mind the cussing. I've said my share of 4 letter words. I remember Zetts and Pirone saying some select words at times too.
  
  The rest is inexcusable though. Especially considering that he misses practices for no good reason, and he blew off the offseason workouts.
  
  They should never get blown out 3 games in a row, regardless of schedule. I can understand the offense stalling at times, as well as the lack of big plays, after losing Brooks and McDonald. There's really no excuse for the defense being as soft as it is though.
  
  Firing the OC/OL coach 3 games in... not even... was stupid. I thought Nagle's temper had gotten the best of him, and he walked out. I didn't know he was fired. Stupid move by Asher.

  Shape, you should ask about the computer that wrestling used, bought by football boosters... No false rumors here... Ash was given the rest of the software to it the night of the Struthers game, since he was not returning it. And ask, about the digital camcorder that came up missing too.. He tried to keep them both even after the wrestling coach turned the one over to him... The only reason he didn't was because someone went through a cupboard where it was being stashed and pulled it out... Again No "RUMORS" on this end. In fact we had people willing to file affidavits to recover the stuff from him, but the Administration stopped it, because the Super told them to replace it all, to cover for his buddy... AND if ANY coach from EL wants to condone this type of conduct and behavior maybe it's time they move along too... What exactly are we teaching kids by saying this is okay to do in life?

  If you want to substantiate your allegations, fine, but until then they are still "rumors" as defined above, even if you think differently. I do not condone rumors, nor the type of conduct or behavior alleged in your story about "computers, camcorders, software and a cupboard."
  Then, to top it off, you challenge EL coaches concerning your "rumors".
  What exactly are we teaching kids by saying this is okay to do in life?

  Until there is tangible proof regarding Asher that can be referenced here, let's keep it out of the thread and at least try to keep it about football, and stuff we know for a fact.
  
  Everything that was posted may very well be true, but let's let it play out and not turn this place into a potential rumor mill.

  Board President Scott Dieringer did not go into specifics but said, "If there is such a problem, the board of education hopes it is rectified as soon as possible."No monetary value was placed on the missing items, and Dieringer said it is still unclear what is missing and how many items are unaccounted for.The BOE had lumped all the stuff that was bought by the boosters in w/this. Examples; Digital Camcorder, Lap Top Computer and other things. All in which were told not to be discussed as individual stuff by the SUPER. Shape, there is much more and if you would like to meet me in your coaches office, along with anyone else including Mark Asher, his attorney, and anyone else you'd like to invite let me know.

  That's all fine and dandy, but until something concrete comes out at Struthers, it's just an assumption based on your link from his EL stint
