Nepotism in your program?

How wide spread is this? The one case that comes to mind is Ben Roethlisberger only playing QB his senior year giving way to the coaches son the previous years.

Didnt the coach's son put up pretty damn good numbers for Findlay though? From what I remember it wasnt like his son was chopped liver at the position, and I think BR played WR so it also possibly coulda been best for the team having BR at WR, and another guy at QB who could put up numbers.

    But i digress.s.....its been awhile.

No doubt BR has shown in the end he was a talent but if ya have a starting QB who was playing well and putting up numbers its hard to sit him. We had that in our program. Starting QB was a returning starter who put up great numbers and lead the team to a title. Next season rolls around.....some speculate that QB would be replaced but wasnt....how can ya replace a QB who won and put up great stats? Next year that other QB who was the backup put up record numbers for the program and is getting DI looks at QB. Although the original starter wasnt the coaches son he still started over the other QB whom many felt was gonna be better....but how can ya take out a successful QB who put up numbers?

    But i digress.

Could it be because the coaches son was better at the time? Just b/c he's an NFL QB now doesn't mean he has those same skills as a sophomore in High School. But on the topic..I don't think it's as bad as people think..anytime their kid isn't playing and there is a relative of the coach on the team starting..they always say it's b/c of favoritism. Some people just have a problem admitting that another player is better than their kid.

There's nothing wrong with nepotism as long as you keep it in the family.

Funny you mention this. A good friend of mine is good friends with the kid in question.

Maybe I can acquire the tape library from that time frame and we can all judge for ourselves whether Ben Roethlisberger was in fact a superior player at that time.

That is real easy to second guess now.

To claim favoritism never occurs is absurd, but it is far more rare than the claims of it.
