Week8: Northwest (5-2) @ Canfield
-
ajwahoo2k2Thoughts on this weeks game! Indians must be PERFECT! Canfield will be the toughest opponent at this point in the season! GO NORTHWEST!

Drums of WarThis thread is starting to look like a typical NW Home game. Quiet, apathetic, and not much interest. Since nobody wants to talk about the game, lets approach the subject I mentioned. How is it that St. Charles seemed to have more energy in their stands after a 2+ hour car ride than we had on our side? I have mentioned this on threads long ago, but how many times are we in a pivotal 3rd down or even 4th down situation and I look into the stands to see people carrying on their conversations, or sitting quietly awaiting the outcome of the play?
Now, I do realize that I am preaching to the choir here as those reading this board would not be the ones sitting on their hands, but the question still remains.
Even the student section is a bit pathetic. You are telling me that at 700+ students (-100 for the band) (-50 for team and support staff) out of the 550 left we can't get mote than 15 kids to stand and be rowdy (in a good way) in the student section? I do want to give credit to the ones that are out there, I enjoy their enthusiasm and effort. I look at places like Marlington, WB, and L-ville where they had to be at 100+ involved cheering students in their student sections. Even when I was in school in the mid 90's the student section was small, but at least they could muster 40 or 50.
I don't know, maybe I am just an old has-been that is getting cranky in his old age, but it seems like this has been the norm for too long now. As a former player, I can tell you that the crowd can get you that little extra every now and then. I think they deserve it, and I am going to do my part to start turning things around. -
riders1I think playoff football has spoiled the fans during the regular season. It seems that way at Orrville also, most season games are ho-hum crowds, then come playoffs and it seems as if more of the fans suddenly realize there is a game on the field. Until there is a rivalry game like wooster the fans just don't seem to get into it and students don't seem to follow on the road games. There are just too many other distractions for kids and parents today like cell phones, texting, facebook, myspace, and tweeting that just weren't around in past generations.
Go Indians !!!! -
THE4RINGZmyspace? are you still on myspace Grandpa?
-
fpfpdadchhBelieve me, I notice. I stand up and scream at a great play at NW and people look at me like I am crazy. Then I look at crowds like Massillon and Cincinnatti Elder and Louisville and just feel embarrased.
-
ajwahoo2k2Yes this interesting.....
Considering that if you are a student athlete at Northwest you don't have to pay to get into the game. Your pay to play fees entitle you to an all events pass that can be used at any and all events. With that being said, I do not know what the problem is. No granted I am not a life long Canal Fulton resident, but I did move my family here in order to have a better way of life.
Does making the play-offs 9 out of the last 10 years make the fans apathetic? Maybe, but if you look at the average High School team and their following, we are better then most when it comes to packing opposing teams visitors sections.
Maybe, if we upgrade ourselves to the 2000's and actually have pep ralley's, play Hell's Bells on 3rd and whatever, move the NHS Tailgating from in front of Stinson to the area were the adminstration parks visiting buses or have a spirit squad we might, just might be able to show the boys on the field that more then Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa or some friends care about what is going on down on the field.
Just so all know, there is a community pep rally at 7:00 pm this Thursday to send the team off to Canfield to hopefully come away with a win. Show your spirit for the Indian NAtion and BE THERE! -
Brutusthis school has know gym to do pep rallies. what a joke. they havent had a true pep rally in years. 7 pm pep rally will draw the same people who go to the games.

NWIndianNation01I think it all comes down to the student section...in which ours is LAME! Even though I did the same thing as a student at NW, it is amazing how many kids come to the game but have no clue what the score is or even if we won because they just use the game to talk to girls/boys behind the stands and to get into trouble. I blame the school though on the fact that there is no student section...first because if they would pump it at school the day of the game, there might be more, but second, if you look at Louisville, they have a policy that if you are a student at the game, you have to sit in the student section...you can't just walk around the whole game...I don't know why we don't do the same thing (wow...that was one heck of a run on sentence). At Louisville, the teachers actually patrol to keep this in check? Do all of our teachers even come to the games? I see a few, but for sure not all of them.
When the student section is big, and noisy it excites the rest of the crowd to do the same.
Something that I think is just as big of a problem is the "reserved" seating in the middle of the stands... Anyone ever notice that it is EMPTY?!?!? That looks crappy when the opponent looks over. Sure we are just spread out over stands that might be too big....but it is lame that nobody is in the middle. They really need to find a way to fill those seats...even if they get rid of "reserved" meaning. Just my opinion though. -

I was unaware of the free admission, this makes it even worse.ajwahoo2k2;930787 wrote:Yes this interesting.....

I did not say that we do not travel well, because we do, as a matter of fact it seems like our crowd actually gets into the road games more than the ones at home. Possibly because if they are willing to make the drive, they are probably the more involved fans.
As far as the 21st century part, I totally agree, with one exception. Nothing annoys me more than pumped in music at a football game. Sitting through the New Philly game was torture for me. I absolutely hate it. -
Drums of War
I agree with most of this, and would like to add a bit. I get quite frustrated trying to get to the concession stand and needing to have my head on a swivel to make sure I don't get plowed into by some 12 year old running around like an idiot behind the stands. It has gotten extremely out of controll. I would estimate that there are somewhere north of 100 kids back there at any given time. The administration is not monitoring them, the police are on the fence watching the game, and they are running around like a pack of wild monkeys. I love the idea of cracking down on this, but it comes down to $$ I would assume. If you make kids stay in the stands, less will come, which means less $$. The "reserved" seats are another attempt at a money grab that has failed. I am not sure what the difference in price is, but it must be enough for people to say no. I find it quite comical.NWIndianNation01;931046 wrote:I think it all comes down to the student section...in which ours is LAME! Brutusthe reserved seats has helped pay off the bleachers, and is now helping to pay off the track. it is tax deductible. i dont like it. but it is a fundraiser as is the parking passes. it is not revenue for the school. the ACC uses this to fund for many of the sports. i agree students need to sit. GO INDIANS BEAT CANFIELD
-
NWIndianNation01How are those reserved seats paying for anything when nobody sits in them....
-
ajwahoo2k2I have great idea for you indiannation01, maybe ask the right people your questions and you can get your answers.
I would be happy to sit down and explain to you how it relevant.

Lets go Indians! You know what this game means!
Beat Canfield!!!!! -
oh yeah!!i normally do not post on here but you people are saying there are 100 of kids behind the stands... well newsflash that has happened since before the whiting era. I not only went to NW but played 4 years and had much success and even when we were going undefeated or in the playoffs for the first time ever against sheridan little kids were behind the stands doing their own thing. as a former player i was fine with that, i did not need the extra support i played for the school the coach my parents and most importantly the other members of my team! ever since i left a few years back seems like there is much more complaining coming from NW then what we used to have, its time to drop all the nonsense and go out on friday and play NW ball which means smack them in the mouth and play hard. i wish NW nothing but the best and good luck the rest of the way!
-
OQBGo Nothwest...Make us proud!!
-
ajwahoo2k2Well said Oh Yeah! Go Indians beat the Cardinals!

NWIndianNation01
If you look at what I said, I said that I was one of those kids that didn't pay attention when I was in school. The little kids don't bother me as much as the HS kids that should be in the stands supporting their friends.oh yeah!!;932428 wrote:i normally do not post on here but you people are saying there are 100 of kids behind the stands... well newsflash that has happened since before the whiting era. Not sure what you mean by complaining...just discussing different things...isn't that what these boards are for? It IS a DISCUSSION BOARD...LoL
People act like this site should just be about saying "Go Team" come on...what is the purpose of that. Nobody would read these threads if every post was like...
Lets Go Indians! Beat the other team! We are so proud of you! You guys are perfect and the coaching is perfect too. You do no wrong! We wish you the best of luck, full of gumdrops, unicorns, princesses and most important...rainbows! Yay team! -
