WEEK 7: Col. St. Charles @ Canal Fulton Northwest
-
ajwahoo2k2Play-offs are not out of the questions for the Indians! Time to re-group boys and run the rest of the table!
Ok, what do we know about this team from Columbus? Other then they played Lake last year in Uniontown in the play-offs, what can the Tribe expect this week?
I'm sure there are not a lot of posters from St. Charles on here.
Go Indians play each game as if it is your last! -
NWIndianNation01I will say this now...we have to win out to make the playoffs...and it will still be close.
There are no points in St. Charles (other than the fact that they are D1 this year - but only with one win), nor with Barberton or St. Thomas. The only points will come if we can beat a VERY solid Canfield team.
We need to go out this week focused and play like each week is our last! If it seems that this game will be on the easy side, we should work on some of the stuff we have struggled with.
More on St. Charles...
They did have a pretty good season last year, however, it seems as if they lost all their good players. They currently boast an odd record of 1-4 (with an additional win over the Columbus Crusaders as well, however, that doesn't count for OHSAA points). Looking at the rest of their schedule they will be lucky to win 1-2 more (a struggling Bishop Watterson team and Marion Harding). So as I said, no real points in this team. As for the style of team and all that jazz...no idea. -
tinman 36you are jumpin the gun on the playoff talk indiannation. if we win out, we get in with ease. check the schedules of the teams in the region, there are many teams that will lose games. not time to hit the panic button yet
-
GoChiefsDon't let St. Charles record fool you. They can jump up and bite you in the rear if taken lightly.
-
drakeI do not know anything about this St. Charles team, but it does appear that they have lost to 4 pretty decent? teams this season & not by very large margins to boot.
Canal Winchester L 7-12
Eastmoor Academy L 6-14
Beechcroft L 7-14
St Francis Columbus De Sales L 16-27
Best of luck to the Indians this week. -
Lockup ScreenSt. Charles will be tough, they are a D1 school that has lost a few tough games. From what I understand according to my son, they run a lot of similar stuff as Northwest. They will run empty sets, one back sets, and even the typical I formation. They also run a 3-3 stack as well.
-
cfnw_prideVery tough game to win! We need to be ready and once again lay it all out on the field.
Let go Indians, have a great week of practice!!! -
skiisme753Each week from here on out is the playoffs.....loose and they don't make it in.....many tough games left starting this week against D1 St. Charles....When was the last time NW Varsity even played a D1 team?

Damn NWIndian Nation, now you are talking sense. a 7-3 Northwest team not making the playoffs? Well why not sir? Wait let me help you: YOU DONT PLAY ANYBODY. In earlier posts you were all saying St CHarles was part of a STRONG NW schedule. What happened? Oh wait let me answer that for you: JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE D1 DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE GOOD! I honestly hope NW makes the playoffs I really do. I think you guys are some great fans and are passionate about your team. All i have been saying all year as an independent you need to mix in some teams with winning records and dont try to give me New Philly. Coming out of the NBC really hurt you. I know it wasnt your fault but losing teams like Minerva, Marlington, and Louisville on your schedule is just not doing you any justice! -
riders1St Charles was DII last year, finished 5-4 and 6th in their region and lost to Lake in the 1st round 41-14.
-
GoChiefsSt. Charles isn't a weak team if you are implying that RRN.
-
tinman 36Poland, Padua, Canfield and St Charles are good programs, throw in Orrville and New Philly, those are teams that usually win alot of games. That tough NBC is way down, they might put 2 teams in the playoffs. How many playoff caliber teams you play this year? Just focus on something you understand, like laundry

Wow again if you are gonna trash talk me at least have a valid point. Orrville is 4-2 and 5th in their region. NW is 4-2 and not in the Top 9. The records dont lie. You play a D5 school that is bad, a D4 school, an inner city Cleveland School, a St Charles team that has won 1 game, and Poland who you lost to. Orrvilles schedule is way tougher than that. Play all schools that are bigger except Triway and Clearfork! -
NWIndianNation01So does anyone know anything about this years' St. Charles team, in regards to style, skill players, etc?
-
Old RiderStylish with some skill and their catholic..does that help?
kidding of course.
I think you guys will be just fine. Good Luck! -
skiisme753THE TEAMS The Northwest Indians’ playoff hopes took a hit with last week’s 42-41 overtime loss to Poland Seminary. The Indians dropped out of the top eight in the Division III, Region 11 rankings, settling at 10th. That means there’s little room for error in the remaining four games if Northwest wants to return to the postseason. There was little wrong with the Indians’ offense last week, but rather all the issues occurred on defense. Veteran coach Vic Whiting termed it “one of the worst defensive games we’ve played in years and years.” The focus this week is getting back to assignment-sound football. When they’re playing well, Northwest’s defenders use their speed to swarm ball carriers. Linebackers Ronnie Beers, Jay Strelecki and BryanPawlyk lead the unit, while Tyler Bowman, Matt Schley and Matt McDonnell have played well, for the most part, up front. Northwest’s offense was missing leading receiver Dan May last week, who is out with a knee injury. J.C. Pawlyk and Beers picked up the slack last week.
The Columbus St. Charles Cardinals are 2-4, but only one of their wins actually counts toward the playoff computer rankings. The Cardinals defeated the Columbus Crusaders 41-28 two weeks ago. They followed that with a 27-10 loss to St. FrancisDeSales last week. St. Charles will operate out of the shotgun and use multiple formations, with QB Nicholas DeJaco serving as a multiple threat. Sean Fitzmartin is a quick RB who can find a seam and create big plays. Defensively, St. Charles operates out of the same 3-3 stack that Northwest switched to this season, with LBs Brooks Wagstaff and Philip LaFleur leading the way.
THE KEY MATCHUP Whiting described Northwest as taking “two steps backward” defensively in last week’s loss. The Indians will have to get back to basics this week by reading their keys, being where they need to be and not trying to do too much.
STREAKS, STATS AND FACTS Beers has scored 22 TDs this season. He has 17 rushing, four receiving and one on a punt return. Despite rushing for just 40 yards, Beers scored four times last week. ... Beers’ 557 yards rushing leads the Indians, while he also has added 351 yards receiving on a team-high 28 catches. ... J.C. Pawlyk and Beers each caught 11 passes last week.Pawlyk had a team-high 147 yards, while Beers went for 78. ... QB Nick Riley was 30-of-51 for 270 yards last week. He’s 107-of-187 for 1,273 yards and 11 TDs this year. ... Mike Pribonic and Strelecki topped Northwest’s defensive productivity chart last week. -
Lockup Screen
Read my previous post. They seem to have some skill on the outsideNWIndianNation01;923078 wrote:So does anyone know anything about this years' St. Charles team, in regards to style, skill players, etc? -
skiisme753......Being D1 they should have a bigger line than NW and I give up with this thing some would call an offense. Whiting tries to run 5 wide and the stacked eye and he can't do either. What happened to the offense that got NW all but one of their playoff appearances? Where did the 3 WR Shotgun formations go? No guessing what they are doing 5 wide= pass and I=run.....You need to keep the defense guessing or be that good that you can just overpower them......If you want to see a 5 wide offense go to a Mentor game....They have fast and TALL big target WRs and the QB can run....Maybee I just don't get it.....or maybee I don't drink the "special" Gatorade at films on Mondays like some people on here do......
