Week 6: Kenton (5 - 0) @ Elida (4 - 1)

  Pretty big game in the WBL this week & probably one of the biggest games @ Kraft Memorial Stadium. The game features the two best QB's in the conference in Maty Mauk & Reggie McAdams... Will most likely be a shootout & I hope to be at the game if the weather cooperates...

  Elida isnt ready to be on this type of stage and cannot, and will not, stop the kenton attack. They can hope for two things. 1. The kenton bus makes a wrong turn and never makes it there, or 2. Mauk does not play.

  I hate playing teams that have no kicker b/c onside kicks are usually 50/50 on who recovers & Kenton never kicks extra points... And now in a downpour Elida can't do anything & has lost all momentum & trails 22-14

  After Elida throws a INT after the ball goes through the WR's hands in the rain.... Kenton goes for it on 4th & Goal from the 8yd line up 1.... lob TD & of course they never kick & convert another 2pt conversion 30-21... SMH

  Elida got a 3rd down stop near midfield with 3 minutes left on a uncatchable pass... but Elida gets flagged for Interference & Kenton in victory formation.... 30-28 Final

  Pretty sure that non catchable pass thing isnt a rule in HS football like it is the pros. Sucks.
  
  Closer than I thought it would be, but then again I think Kenton is a bit overrated. I dont know if it is their receivers or if Mauk just isnt as good as advertised, but they dont seem to impress me as much as the Kenton days with his brother. We have a very good record vs Kenton, well over .500 since 1998, but they beat us the last two seasons. This year Mauk had 31 completions for I think 190 yards. Did they throw the little screen to the WR all night again?
  
  Elida may be the real deal. How does their system look for a QB after Macadams (sp?) graduates?

  They threw a lot of bubble screens & I would say over half of Mauk's completions were to Sawmiller (spelling) & he's only a sophomore... Maty was limping noticeably late in the 4th as Elida got to him early. When Elida was able to mix the running game with McAdams Kenton couldn't stop them that 96 yard drive was pretty impressive.
  
  I was at the opening game vs the school from Detroit & when they let Reggie sit in the 4th things didn't go as smooth lol... So I hope we don't go back to the 1-2 win seasons after this year lol

  Hard to gauge a kid really in a situation like you said in the 4th qtr. I assume the game was well in hand.
  
  That will be the difference between having a good team vs a good program. A good program kees churning out very good players with solid seasons.
  
  Kenton for the most part has had great teams but not really a great program. When Ben was the QB they were extremely tough and maybe very good for one more season, and then they really didnt do much until the next Mauk came up. They dont seem to put much importance into the JV program there and I think taht really hurts them. Their HC is all about his kids getting the pub and the programs rides on the talent of his two sons over the years and not really much else.
  
  There are alot more solid programs out there who churn out great teams no matter the name on the back of the jersey's. The truly great programs are someone to be reckoned with yearly and not just when certain kids come through the system.

  Elida has another big game next Friday at home again vs O.G. who I believe only has one loss... Elida's 2 losses are by a combined 11 points to two teams who are a combined 12-0
