4-1 Labrae at 4-1 Struthers
-
OhioAsher wont be around long enough to make that much of an impact, he will prolly coach next season then jump the high horse who wouldnt look who struthers is going to be playing in the upcoming years.... do you honestly think they are going to compete against the howlands canfeilds and polands? I say the canfield team that in 3 years Saunders was only able to muster 7 points in the end of the 4th quarter in one game..... Anyone knows football will say this Saunders is a very good guy a guy you would go out to dinner with but he is not a good high school football coach, and Trev you have said this multiple times.
-
BTrevIf you look at all my posts... I've never once said straight up that Saunders can't coach.
I've said that his record speaks for itself. He had his chance, and it was time to move on. He wasn't the right HC for Struthers.
I don't even necessarily think he's that great of a HC. In the right program, I do believe he can be a damn good DC though.
Go look at every post I've made over the past year or so, on here and JJHuddle. Good luck finding a post where I bashed him half as bad as you guys do.
If you want to blame a coach for the poor offensive playcalling last year, why not blame P.J. Mays? He's the one who called the offense.
The defensive schemes were so much better last year. The defense kept them in games that they had no business hanging around in.
The talent is there. You're selling them short if you don't think they can compete. Something has to give. Either they compete in the "big school" tier of the AAC next year, or they get hammered. I've said it before, I'll be shocked if Struthers doesn't go back down to D4 in a few years. If that happens, I'd like to see Struthers move into the "small school" tier. Hopefully JA will leave the conference by then, and leave an opening.
Asher is just a temporary solution to a long term problem. He's earned another year in my book, but they'd better show improvement in 2012... and the AD and BOE had better have a successor in their sights.
As for him not being there for lifting exercises and that... there's no excuse. -
OhioAll i have to say about it is you can argue this and that about coaching but its going to come down to the players, and if they want it Struthers was definatly just as good as Labrae last friday but Labrae clearly wanted it more and came out and showed that, This week struthers brings in Youngstown East, A team that has a great defense and a decent offense with homerun hitters.... I want Struthers to win just as much as anyone for struthers to play in week 11 they have to win every game from here on out do i think that can happen? Yes it can happen will it? We will see the rest of the way out it should be exciting. GO CATS

No. It was 20-0 at the half and LaBrae scored on their first drive of the 3rd to make it 27-0 at that point. Struthers ended up with 28yds. rushing on 32 carries. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.BTrev;919648 wrote:Weren't they only down by a TD going into the 3rd? Have some faith that things will open up in the second half. How many INTs did Kimbrough throw before halftime? If Muntean was put in the game late in the second, I'd say they had more passes than runs. 20-something runs isn't much at all, over the course of a game. -
BTrevThat's a different story then.
My bad. I was under the impression that it was close at ha'ftime. -
Spread All DaySouthbender, the fact that you played under Saunders and said that he'd be 4-2 makes me laugh, a lot.
B-trev- How would Saunders be a good DC if HE NEVER CALLED THE DEFENSE EVER. He did on the other hand call the offense, maybe not every play, but you better believe he did on key plays. (I would know)
and if zetts wasn't forced out, the team would be a lot better off.
The team does look like a bunch of thugs out there, helmets off, heads down. Makes me sick, but the fact that they're 4-2 is good. Idc who they played, they're 4-2. and have a good shot at 5-2 -
Spread All DayNo coach will want to come to Struthers if he struggles his first year. Remember that. Push Asher out, which i hear he's like already done, and see Struthers make another terrible coaching hire. I did not want Asher, but he's 14545x better than the previous coach.

BIG CAT
From what I've heard, he's pushed himself out!Spread All Day;923351 wrote:No coach will want to come to Struthers if he struggles his first year. Remember that. southbender12FYI...He did call the defense at Chaney before he became a head coach. I'd be 4-2 as their head coach so I am pretty sure anyone could. Overwhelming better then the four teams you beat and not even close to the two teams you loss to...sounds like a no brainer to me. If you were smart...you would kick Asher to the curb the day after the season ended and get an upgrade.
-
OhioYa thats logical, kick a coach out after his first year.... im done commenting on this thread people are clueless
-
southbender12
it is if he isnt the long term answer to your program...personally i say keep him because it makes a very talented team very beatableOhio;923724 wrote:Ya thats logical, kick a coach out after his first year.... im done commenting on this thread people are clueless
you stay logical and i'll win..i see your an OSU fan...is it logical to fire Fickell after only a year? under your thought process you'd keep him? his days are already numbered...and so are Ashers if Struthers wants to win long term -
BTrevI agree... I'm done talking about this. You'll all know how I feel about Asher on October 28, around 10 PM. Until then, forget about it...
I do think SB is a little biased for Saunders, having played for him. Still... he wasn't the worst Coach that Struthers has had in the past 20 years... he was certainly better than the Pirone, Jr. regime.
East... IMO, East is the favorite this week. If Struthers plays like they did 2 weeks ago, they'll probably win. If they play like they did last week, they'll lose. Plain and simple...
What kind of heart do they have? -
OhioIf struthers tackles they will have a chance.... you might see shaffer in the backfield tonight...... realistically if you want to talk about talent... Hubbard Campbell Lakeview all have alot more then struthers does that obvious this is the least talented struthers has been in years especially on the outside.

Also you cant throw the fickell factor into it at all because of the fact that he was in the system for a long long time.....southbender12;923837 wrote:it is if he isnt the long term answer to your program...personally i say keep him because it makes a very talented team very beatable

BIG CATI also think we need to think long and hard about jumping to the upper tier as well. If that happens even the GREAT LOMBARDI wouldn't be successful!
-
soupcitysoldieri dont think its your decision...its about numbers, you cant just have a certain number of boys and say "hey we got alot more boys than the lower tier but lets play down there and compete." open enrollment=reap what you sow
-
Ohio
They will play at least one season in the upper tier wouldnt surprize me if struthers hubbard and jefferson leave after that.... would be in their best interest.BIG CAT;925267 wrote:I also think we need to think long and hard about jumping to the upper tier as well. Spread All DayIf Struthers can get an upgrade I'm all for it. But I doubt it. Highly.
-
BTrevJefferson and Struthers are both D3... I'm not sure which is bigger. Jefferson will be in the Lower Tier next year though. Jefferson can compete in the Lower Tier.
As I've said before, I'd really be surprised if Struthers doesn't drop back down to D4 the next time the OHSAA refigures everything. Then and only then, would they possibly move into the Lower Tier of the AAC. Until then, they'll be in the Upper Tier... where would they go if they leave the AAC. I think becoming an Independent, while it may seem attractive now, might be a mistake in the long hall. The NEBC is arguably better than the AAC this year. Like it or not, they belong in the AAC.
The raw talent is there. If the kids decide that they want to put in the time, effort, and sacrifice over the winter, and actually start lifting... and if the coach actually starts taking the offseason workouts seriously... they can compete next year.
It's just a matter of self discipline, and what level of commitment they're willing to give.
I guarantee you... Poland, Canfield, Howland, and Niles are all looking at playing Struthers next year and drooling. They all look at Struthers like it's an easy win... and it very well could be. Struthers could go 1-5 in the conference next year. They could go 5-1 too though.
If only half the team shows up to lifting, and they're only lifting 3 days a week, they'll get killed.
If Kimbrough, Stewart, Baron, Seiffert, Wess, Koup, Pollifrone, Wilburn, the Papes, and everyone else that's coming back next year starts hitting the weights hard... they have a chance.
Commitment... Unity... Hard Work... -
OhioNo chance on beating Howland next year, if you cant tackle runningacks from labrae your not going to stop Smith.... i see struthers beating BL and Niles next season in conference, but whats the non league schedule look like?
-
BIG CATAfter Last night, how can anyone say we improved this year? 4-6 last year we played all but 2 tough, the rest were fairly close. This year we barely beat a bunch of scrubs and get blown out by everyone else!
-
omemorialhighSpread All Day I havent heard from you after you torched me in the offseason for even considering East could beat Struthers...boy you got a laugh out of that huh
-
Ohio
Gary munteen should be the starting quarterback. on a good note Hubbard got blasted by jefferson friday night 42-20...... Also 5-5 will be a great season for struthers with the talent they have, they dont have near the talent they have had the last 2 seasons.BIG CAT;926501 wrote:After Last night, how can anyone say we improved this year? 4-6 last year we played all but 2 tough, the rest were fairly close. BTrevI've been saying that for weeks. Move Kimbrough to receiver, and let Muntean play QB. Get Kimbrough the ball in the open field...
Of course, the way the defense played, they weren't gonna win anyway. Rick McFadden could've been taking the snaps, and they wouldn't have had a chance.
If they don't start wrapping up, they won't win another game. Larry Scott and Ja'les Hughes will tear through the defense like it's nothing. Stop playing patty cake with guys. Wrap up and take 'em to the ground.
On a different but similar note... great job by the Struthers Gridiron Club of recognizing and honoring the 1981 Undefeated MVC Championship team on Friday night. -
BTrevHere is the schedule, as I understand it.
1. Campbell
2. at Lakeview
3. ? I think East
4. East Liverpool
5. @ Hubbard*
6. Niles*
7. @ Beaver Local*
8. Canfield*
9. @ Poland*
10. Howland*
Something like that...
