Week 6: Ashtabula Edgewood (1-4 ) at Campbell Memorial ( 3-2 )
-
BigDean1Campbell finally gets a home game after four straight on the road which included two frustrating losses to Brookfield and LaBrae. The Red Devils must regroup and string some wins together beginning with the homecoming game on Friday against a weak Ashtabula Edgewood team. Your thoughts?
-
OhioEdgewood isnt really a quality opponent it and next week are tune up games, Devils 42-7
-
BigDean1There is a lot of football left this season. If the Red Devils can eliminate penalties in key situations, mental breakdowns and mistakes, they have a chance to win out and perhaps make the playoffs. This Campbell team is two or three plays away from being 5-0 instead of 3-2. That's how close it is. Win out. It can be done.
-
RIP.Soroka.89Agree totally. Should be an easy win at home. Time to see just how much HEART this team has. Do they want it bad enough or are they just going thru the motions til the end? Hard to figure out the motivation of this team. They don't come out fired up. No emotion whatsoever. Do they care or are they just out for individual stats and glory? Well find out in these next few weeks.

A 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty really hurt Campbell in the LaBrae game. That penalty got LaBrae out of a hole and they proceeded to drive for what turned out to be the winning touchdown. I am sure that Sikora and staff are doing their best to address these problems. The word is out that if you can get the Campbell kids mad the officials will flag them, especially in the games played up in Trumbull County. Keep in mind that some of these kids come from less than ideal home situations and some do not have a parent who they can sit and listen to. If they don't have that at home how can one expect them to be disciplined in class or out on the field? This is a difficult situation that is common in many inner city schools throughout the state. These kids need to do a better job and keep their cool on the field, although that is sometimes much easier said than done. In many cases these kids are not the player starting something. It's just unfortunate that some of the officials only hear or choose to hear what the Campbell kid says or does in response to whomever instigated the problem.omemorialhigh;910720 wrote:goodnight sweetheart now its time to gooooooo....
I am not so sure Sikora and staff should be blamed for losing control of the team. From my perspective they haven't done that. They have dedicated hours upon hours over the past few years to make this football program better. I think a few of us need to stop and think where this Campbell program was just a few years ago and where it is now. We don't have to look any further than former head coach Jeff Bayuk, Sikora, and those assistants to thank for the strides this program has made over the past few years. Bayuk could have coached anywhere. He did not have to come to Campbell. When he left and took a job at Howland, his assistants at Campbell, including coach Sikora, could have jumped ship. They didn't. They stayed here. It wasn't too many years ago that Campbell was losing games 58-6 with many of those games being over at halftime. The Campbell football program was a laughing stock, only a shell of what it once was. I'd say Campbell has made some big strides since the Bayuk-Sikora group took over. The secret has been out for months that this is not the best senior class. But it is what it is. Let's hope there is a chance that these seniors will focus and put some wins together. If Campbell can win on Friday and again the following Friday a big game will follow at Girard in week 8. It's not going to be easy. Nobody said it would be. But don't give up on these kids and coaches because we've lost two games. This is still a good football team. Winning Friday will be a good start. -
BigT761Well said BigDean. I am no coach but I think now is a time the kids should be shown or tought some of the history of Campbell football and also maybe some old time players could talk these kids and help them get back on track not that we are off track but can help with some of the adversity you to knw ur past and history to keep it from happening again. Not saying theae kids failed but a good quote I saw is this " The greatest accomplishment is not in never failing, but rising again after you fail." Vince Lombardi

Honestly, if they brought someone in I could see most of this group rolling their eyes saying 'who the F is this MF' or something close to it.BigT761;911480 wrote:Well said BigDean. No leadership whatsoever, I said it from day 1. I was stupid enough to get caught in the smokescreen. But just like most, I'm sick of trying to defend them. I just hope this one senior class doesn't destroy the efforts of the last few years.
We didn't realize how good we had it with the last couple groups of seniors. Especially last years. -
reddevil90
With you on that! I had it with defending them. Time shut up and get it done. there talent is there. Then damn it use it. Ja'les will not get much cause they key on him now. remember the big X. pass the ball around and watch what happened. the holes will open up just enough for Ja'les to get it gong again. Girard will crush Campbell at this point. Can this team beat Girard? Hell yeah they can. but will they? But the next couple of games are to get this team back on track and hope this will end the streak. They can win out but i don't see it happening unless 2 5 and the rest start leading the team.RIP.Soroka.89;911674 wrote:Honestly, if they brought someone in I could see most of this group rolling their eyes saying 'who the F is this MF' or something close to it.

sooner1The Head Coach is in charge of the team! Not the players! He should have nipped this in the butt a long time ago. But he didn't! So live with it! Don't blame the coaches because their the best in the business!! Are you kidding me!!!
-
BigDean1Not much interest in this game. Is this what 2 losses does?
-
oldschoolreddevNot sure how playing this team does us any good. Need to play local teams.
-
BigDean1
I agree. Edgewood is a D-4 school which does not have a very good football program. I believe they are on the schedule again for next season. They are 1-4 and three of those losses have been blowouts. They have given up at least 49 points in three of their losses. This was not a good team to schedule. They don't win games.oldschoolreddev;914551 wrote:Not sure how playing this team does us any good. Need to play local teams.
Crestview would have been one better choice. I can probably name 10 other schools too. We've put ourselves into 11th place in the region thanks to back losses to good teams. We may need some help to get into the postseason. And a team like Edgewood isn't likely to provide us with many computer points. Bad choice. One more thing........the weather forecast for Friday night looks to be really messy with rain and wind. -
RIP.Soroka.89The s**t is about to hit the proverbial fan. Better get a program tomorrow, gonna be some new faces seein PT. All I'm gonna say.

cmhs_prideListen there is not going to be interest in this game. It's a joke. We win by five touchdowns and so what. We are suppose to. This team is wayyyyyy down.
What I want to see over the next two weeks is how we win. Dancing, laughing, taunting......or going out and handling themselves like the next two weeks are here to prepare them for a war because I will tell you this... If this group thinks they can win the next two weeks by a total of 70-14 and then walk into Girard and do the same thing to the Indians.....well somebody better wake up. Sorry folks, I called this from day one. I do not give up on kids.....When those kids don't give up. Eight year olds.... You have to have more tolerance. But 17 yr olds... No sorry, lead them to the water, try to give them all the tools to understand why they should drink it. If they don't care after that. Neither do I.
Bottom line is this... Go out the next two weeks and handle your business. And then prove me wrong when I say I don't think this group has it. I said it when they were 1-0, 2-0, 3-0. Everyone thought I was seeing things. I was not. -
oldschoolreddevGreat time to discipline the inmates Coach Sikora! Why not against a team that the 2nd & 3rd teamers can beat! That'll teach the kids! Give me a break! The discipline issues and attitudes of the team have been there all along, so why change now? Because you lost two in a row? That is a pathetic attempt to CYA. And I don't want to year the BS about these kids have no discipline because they come from one parent homes. That is a cop out!
-
sooner1I totally agree with you Oldschool!!
-
RIP.Soroka.89Oldschool, have that resume ready.

BigDean1Campbell wins 31-16 despite turnovers and mistakes. From my point of view it looks as if the Red Devils were just going through the motions in this game. As usual for this season, they came out of the gate with no fire, no intensity. They did their best to keep a very bad team in the game. Ja'les Hughes goes over 1,000 yards for the second season in a row. A win is a win. But this team has to play much better than it did tonight.
-
cmhs_prideCan't prove me wrong. Anybody watch Girard tonight???
You know what's funny? Last year a junior put on his FB page he was tired of the senior class getting all the credit for last years success. Really? -
soupcitysoldierwho got kicked off the team?

soupcitysoldier;918035 wrote:who got kicked off the team?
Nobody, but there were a couple that were suspended for the game. -
soupcitysoldiermy personal opinion is this, if you need to cut some kids to save the program then do it now. chalk the season up, who cares...if your serious about staying here and winning over the long run cut the cancer out now. Rozum wouldnt of gave a second thought to cutting his best players if they werent there to work. It worked out in the long run, youll have more dedicated players in the long run, and the garbage wont even try out for the team.
-
oldschoolreddevOur point total is now 5.1. Rootstown lost. We are still alive. Champion next. Need Range to beat Springfield Local Next week.

soupcitysoldierwhats the prognosis oldschool...can we finish 7-3 and get in????????????
