Northwest vs New Philly

skiisme753I like the sound of NP running the ball and a NW victory.....shut down the run and I expect nothing less that 2 picks for the NW defense this week. 41-30 NW. Hard to believe this is the first game between these schools.
-
just_a_swimmerAll I know is I want the Quakers to win. Every game coming up they need to bring their "A" game and believe they can do it. I believe they can. Go Quakers.
-
ajwahoo2k2Saw that the squaws were feeding the warriors tonight. They look hungry for some Quaker scalps! Good luck to both teams and may the football gods (Alzado, Lombardi and Brown) shine down on the Mighty Indians!

Drums of WarHas anyone else thought of the Irony of the mascot names in this one? Would be funny if the UNLV baseball team could play the Yankees. What others are out there that you can think of?
-
osundHope Philly wins but realistically Northwest will win by a couple of tds. I though Philly could sneak into the playoffs with a 7-3 but now they have to split with Zanesville, Coshocton, Dover and Northwest. I could see Philly maybe beating Coshocton but that will be a difficult challenge.

[h=1]Scouting Report: Northwest at New Philadelphia[/h]
Northwest at New Philadelphia, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
The teams Don’t look now, but the Northwest Indians have won three straight after a season-opening loss to Orrville. The Indians used a combination of suffocating defense and explosive offense to roll by Padua 42-17 last week. Veteran coach Vic Whiting hinted QB Nick Riley might throw the ball more last week, but the Indians actually had their best rushing game of the season against Padua. Ronnie Beers, Kyle Harris, J.C. Pawlyk and Tyler Bowman all contributed on the ground, while Riley even scrambled for several nice gains. The versatility of Harris and Beers allows them to be threats in the passing game, where they join Dan May as Riley’s favorite targets. Defensively, LBs Beers and Jay Strelecki, along with defensive backs Pawlyk and Tristan Mullane, were in on several stops last week.
Last week’s 28-27 overtime loss to Cambridge dropped the New Philadelphia Quakers to 3-1. Coach Matt Dennison’s team runs out of multiple formations on offense, with sophomores Caleb Beans (QB) and Jamal Johnson (RB) leading the way. Johnson’s rushing ability was prominent in the Quakers’ early season wins, while Beans went to the air effectively in last week’s loss. Dakota Hill and Justin Ward lead the Quakers’ defense from their LB positions.
The key matchup Northwest’s run defense has been up to the challenge in recent weeks, but Johnson will be one of the better backs the Indians have faced this season. While shutting down Johnson entirely may be tough, slowing him down and forcing the Quakers into passing situations would play into Northwest’s hands.
Streaks, stats and facts Riley was 17-of-33 for 196 yards and two TDs last week. He’s 64-of-109 for 848 yards and eight scores this season. ... Northwest’s rushing game pounded out 295 yards on 35 attempts last week. Beers accounted for 146 of those yards on just 15 rushes, scoring three TDs. J.C. Pawlyk added 52 yards on just three carries and Bowman had 37 yards on seven carries. ... Jordan Benson is 19-of-20 on PATs and has made his only FG this season. ... Dan May has 14 catches for 237 yards this season, while Beers has 14 grabs for 238 yards. ... Johnson has 770 yards rushing on 98 carries so far. He’s scored seven TDs. ... Beans is 22-of-41 for 350 yards, two TDs and two INTs this season. ... New Philadelphia’s defense is allowing 148 yards rushing and just 89 yards passing per game. -
just_a_swimmerI do believe Johnson has 905 yards thru 4 weeks. 770 after 3 weeks.

skiisme753Indians didn't let me down with the 2 picks. Returning one to the house makes it even better. It's amazing what a little BALANCE can do for a football team. Honestly, the commentators on the radio said it all "Whiting is getting too fancy with the play calling and just needs to run the ball".
-
THE4RINGZCongratulations Northwest.

OQBCongrats Indians...keep those wins coming!

NWIndianNation01Couldn't put anything together in the first half, but then finally started clicking in the second half. GREAT game by the defense! Offense looked better and better as the game went on.
Best part of the game: In the second half, after Beers ran the ball for 60 some odd yards, he came over to the sideline for a breath and told Whiting plain as day: " GIVE ME THE BALL AND I WILL DO SOMETHING WITH IT"
Love that FIRE!
Congrats Indians! Enjoy your weekend then get ready for a WAR with POLAND! -
tinman 36Great game! Only score NW gave up was an 8 yard drive. Held them to 156 total yards, defense was on fire again. Johnson is a good back, he is quick. Lookin good as a team now, when one part isn't clicking, another part of the team steps up. Offense really came around in the 2nd half, line did a great job. They ran and thru well. By the way, Beers was the best RB in the game last night.
