Week 3: Salem Quakers (1-1) at Niles Red Dragons (2-0)

  • ts1227
Salem makes the trip to Bo Rein Stadium on Friday. 7:00 kickoff.

Niles has beaten John Adams, and killed Liberty. Salem was handled by LaBrae, then beat United.

Niles unfortunately seems to have the slight edge, what say you?

I've heard Liberty is way down and John Adams is usually horrible and Niles should have won easily. I'm going Salem in this one.

Niles isn't down as they have been, which is why I worry on this one.

I don't think I could judge Niles based off of their first two opponents. Liberty seemed to be way down last night, and Cleveland John Adams did not have a very good team either.

Personally, attending both games, Niles looks to be better than they were last year as Bailey has progressed a decent amount and Duffy in the backfield is a workhorse. The OL/DL are the team's strengths, as they have some big kids who caused disruptions in both of the previous games. However, the team's secondary seems to be a weakness to me. Against John Adams, whenever their QB had time (which wasn't very often due to the DL), he was easily able to complete passes. Liberty didn't really test the Niles secondary much last night; their QB wasn't very good.

Anyways, I have no clue about Salem, so I don't know which way this game will go.

Niles has to be the favorite going into this game, especially with it being at home and having a big and physical offensive/defensive line. Salem needs to find a way to take advantage of Niles weak secondary and then this will be a very good game.

    That's exactly what happened.

I'd like to say congrats to Salem on the win; they came out on top in a true battle of the defenses. I was impressed with how strong they were in the trenches, when it seemed that Niles had the bigger kids. It goes to show you that kids with big heart can outmuscle kids with size. A couple penalties here and there kinda killed a couple of drives, but for the most part, every time Salem got the ball, I was worried.

Back to the coaching, Salem's coaching was far and beyond what Niles has. They played a smart game, and Niles simply refused to put up points when they had their opportunities in the first half. Going for it twice on 4th and about three when you have a decent kicker (46 yard FG isn't a slouch) isn't going to win you many football games. There was a lack of football knowledge in the play calling on their side. It's disappointing.
