Week 2: Youngstown Ursuline at Mentor

  • mvred
    Youngstown Ursuline (0-1)
    at Mentor (1-0)
Friday Night 7:00pm | Mentor High School

-Ursuline is coming off one of their worst losses in years, a 54-18 loss to Red Lion Christian Academy out of Delaware.
-Mentor is coming off a 49-21 win over Euclid.

Predictions... Who will be there? I know I will not, I'll be in East Lansing for the YSU-Michigan State game.

    Probably be a good one.

Taking the Irish. Need this game
  • reddevil90
Until Ursuline losses two in a row i have to take Ursuline!
  • Ohio
Ursuline beat MLC last year and they play them again next week i believe.
  • Ohio
Ill go with the irish in this one they will definatly be fired up for this one. Also i do not think Mentor will be able to slow down the run game of the irish
  • mvred
Ursuline was able to run at will against Red Lion, but a half dozen turnovers shot the Irish in the foot...

Should be a dandy like Mooney-McKinley. I will take the Irish by 4, 28-24.

Then wy can't Strasburg compete with Mentor year in and year out?

They put 11 on the field also.

Why couldn't Mansfield (435 boys) or Wooster (449 boys) compete with Orrville (214 boys) last year?

Why couldn't Massillon (555 boys) compete with Buchtel (309 boys) last year?

Are you starting to realize yet how dumb your argument is?

    Haha agreed!
  • mvred
People on here fail to realize the quality of football players in Youngstown. It has been loaded with talent for decades and that has not changed.... In the year 2011, Youngstown/Mahoning Valley remain a football hotbed.

Once again, Fitch has four players with Division 1 offers, Howland has two, Boardman has one, likely two with Zidian.

    Ursuline as of today... None.

Courtney Love for Mooney got an offer from Nebraska!!

Ah....a difference of 246 boys, is slightly different than a difference of 886. Get Rocket to help ya, oh, that's right, he's an English Major.

Massillon isn't even twice the size of Buchtel, whereas Mentor is over 6 times the size of Ursuline. It's simple math really, maybe Rocket could help you afterall.

Does this help you realize how stupid YOUR argument is now?

Actually, beyond a certain point, each additional student makes relatively less difference when "staffing" a team.

I dont understand the big deal. Private schools build programs with quality and Publics with quantity.. That's the way its always been.. And no I am not saying pulics dont have quality they just have more numbers to find that quality 11.... It seems like a pretty fair deal to me... Now I do think there has to be a system to allow the better private schools to move up in class for the state play-offs. Like was mentioned before an enrollment multiplier system for the privates is an idea that is implemented in many states now.. I am most certain a program like Ursuline would much rather play in the Div 3 play-offs.. If all they cared about was Div 5 championships then they wouldn't schedule bigger schools and risk play-off points. I have much respect for them for scheduling tough opponents and taking that chance of missing the play-offs... Can an Ohio school petition or request to move up in class? I know Shiloh did this and Arkansas and it was granted I believe..

One aspect I really like about the MIAA( an association of all private schools in MD that I mentioned in an earlier post) is they have the three divisions , A,B,C but size of the school(enrollment numbers) are not what determines placement. They evaluate how good each team or program is every two years and adjust.. It isn't sweeping across all sports either.. One school may have , Basketball, Lacrosse maybe in the A conference but Football in the B. Basically if you win the B for two years you get moved up to A or you can get moved down if you cant compete .. Not saying its better than anyone else's system just food for thought..

sorry the two above posts were meant for the other thread..
