Week 2: Cleveland John Hay at Canal Fulton Northwest

  • NWIndianNation01
Does anyone know how JV did last week and how the freshman did last and this week?
  • Brutus
Jvs won last sat. Over orrville. 7th grade won its opener 42 - 6 over fairless iam not sure about 8th grade and frosh

personally I hope skiisme never comes to another game, we dont need that kind of support. As for the defense not hitting, if you would have ever buckled up a chin strap in high school instead of playin Dungeons and Dragons, you would know what its like to try and tackle someone like Monheim

First of all...Mr. Lockup Screen with 6 posts...I am in NO WAY trashing the kids...they worked their butts off...but the play calling and hitting was very suspect. There is no reason that we should have went 5 wide for 3/4 of the game. There was no imagination in the play calling. Anyone can see that. Ask ANY Northwest fan at the game and they will tell you that we were predictable and the way things were called, there was no chance of us winning the game. I wouldn't call that trashing the coaches...just being real. I am sure that Coach Whiting can justify any and all mistakes, but that doesn't mean that it would have been best for the W. Just because you fall behind doesn't mean you have to put in an offensive scheme that is so one dimensional that you only take 7 seconds off the clock and your defense is ALWAYS on the field.

BTW...I have always wanted to go to films to hear about the game, but always felt awkward about going. I am probably the biggest Northwest/HS football fan you will find and I understand that the kids make mistakes, run the wrong routes and things like that, but that doesn't mean the coaching staff made all the right calls...they are human too. Sure it is easy to sit back in the bleachers and whine, but the ideas and thoughts behind it are valid...and I know that all the fans are thinking it...it is just a matter of who is willing to voice it. I never knew HS football was a dictatorship where people couldn't question calls made by coaching staff. If that were true, we would still have some of the terrible coaches from the 90's at the helm of this team...and we all know that would be bad.

NEXT... tinman36...I personally know skiisme, and he wasn't in trouble with Vic, nor does he have a kid in the program. He is a younger guy like me that is just frustrated with how the program is going. He is NOT a fan of the spread offense, even if you do have huge tall and fast receivers. It just is not that effective of an offense. State championship teams usually need to mix it up a bit, or have a BEAR of a running back that can just run over teams...with the addition of a defense that mows down the other team. We don't have that...at least not that I have seen. Like I said, our boys weren't hitting hard on Friday and didn't seem to KNOW how to tackle...again...that is coaching....unless the players just aren't listening to coaching, then they need better discipline.

Oh...and I just read through the posts from skiisme...and I don't see ANYWHERE that he bashed the kids. Only coaching decisions, which he, as a fan, has the right to do last time I checked.

Brutus (Jim) - Don't harp on the guy too bad...just from watching the Orrville game, it could look like the receivers weren't all that fast...but mostly due to TWO causes...first, a really fast Orrville secondary. A fast defense like that can make the fastest of offenses look slow. Second, our speedsters, were cramping all game...you can't run full out if you are cramping that bad. I pray that these kids stay hydrated today because tonight's game is going to be HOT! I do agree that our receivers are short, which hurts us, but it can't be the whole blame. I also agree that heart and athletic ability mean more than size, however, if a defense knows exactly what you are doing every single play, heart and athletic ability tend to go out the window...especially in high school.

I hope skiisme continues to support the kids...because that is all that matters. I always hear from fans that they aren't coming back because the team looked bad or because the coaches didn't have a great game..but that is sad. I know at times I feel this way, but I will always be at every game I can. Support the kids, not the coaches.

As for tonight, I hope the boys are ready for a hot one! If play to potential, the game shouldn't be close. But if we play like last week then it will be all too close.

    LETS GO INDIANS!

    PLAY HARD!

    PLAY TOGETHER!

    PLAY ON FIRE!

    PLAY WITH HEART!

    BEAT JOHN HAY!
    First Off Mr Indiannation01,
You know who I am, Im an old JJhuddle fan with 4000+ postings so saying I have only 6 means is completely irrelevant. Secondly, Northwest had 19 rushes for 9 against Orrville. Our Offensive line was BAD. Its hard to run the ball when their is an 8 man box with a Divison 1 caliber Middle Linebacker. I understand your frustation but what did you want NW's staff to do? Run the ball and get stuffed? Or let Riley throw the ball? NW tried to run play-action out of the I and pistol sets but Orrville had the athletes to cover our best athletes. Can we just say Orrville has one helleva team/program and maybe the better team won? Ive been around Northwest football for about 15 years now and I think we have a talented group of kids and a great coach. The road will be tough for us this year but I think if we can stay healthy we WILL see a week 11 birth. My two cents to the angry Northwest fans, Coach Whiting will always put our kids in the best position to win. I am a firm believer of that.

Also Nwindiannation01, We welcome anyone at films on monday nights. Don't be afraid to come and learn, its a great time.

    8th grade won 23-0?

Frosh are now 0-2. Losing to tallmadge 27-6 and Dover 20-38

I agree that Monhein was a beast! I think Vic wanted to establish a running game but Monheim & company stuffed it up. So when we tried passing I think Orriville match up very well against are Receivers. I think Orrivile is going to tough to beat, They got the studs in the proper places. Poor JC Pawlik got rocked last week & felt really bad for him, that was probably the hardest hit I saw in High school football in a long time. JC is a tough kid to get up from that hit & continue to play. I could tell he was hurting. I do like this team this year, we got a very tough schedule & I feel 6-4 will get us in the playoffs.
    Go Indians...Good Luck!!

By the way, films was very informative. It really shows what the coaches are trying to do & Vic does a great job explaining what's happening. I went last year & its very laid back & it was really enjoyable.:)

Sorry Lock-up screen....I didin't read your post before I commented on mine...Great minds think alike...It was my first post...I guess I got a little excited..lol
  • ajwahoo2k2
GAMEDAY! Time for the Indians to kill some hornets! Is anyone taking the industrial strength Wasp and Hornet spray? Fulton Hardware had a case left!
  • J-Dover
Good luck NW get that first win of the season!!!
  • NWIndianNation01
Lockup Screen...sorry for assuming you were noob...just didn't recognize the name...what was your name over there if you don't mind me asking?

Tinman...don't be so harsh on skiisme...he is a fan for sure...just a frustrated one. As for your remark about hitting...give me a break...teams of past never had troubles hitting hard...even against big backs like Monheim. Overall our Indians just aren't hitting hard...they just want to grab at the should pads and push. That isn't tackling...sorry...but it isn't.

I do agree that Orrville was just that good and better than we were last week. That doesn't mean that we had to get completely one dimensional and lose all creativity for 3/4 of the game. That was my real point. I really think if we play that style the whole season, there isn't a chance for the playoffs. However, I know this team has so much more than that...I DO STILL BELIEVE!

    GO INDIANS!!!
  • J-Dover
Congratulations boys, looks like the "O" starting clicking and "D" started hitting.
  • tinman 36
defense looks pretty good to me. better get on them Triway kids about hitting, they seem to have some trouble with Monheim
  • Flash
You have a tough schedule and 6-4 will get you in the play offs. That's all that really counts. All you have to do is win one more than you lose.
  • ajwahoo2k2
Great job tonight to the Indians. O clicked even with the spread probably to the amazement of some of our "fans." The D, well lets just say the front tandam of 73 and 47 were in their faces all night. This of course allowed the backers to step up.

I would not count on that. Look at the teams in Region 11. You Must keep on winning...until you meet Dover in the playoffs.......
  • INDIANS FAN
Great job tonight!..maybe next year some of our starters will actually practice with the team all season so we can be a "team" and be a power house again!
  • Dover
    Congrats Northwest
  • riders1
Congrats on your win, keep it up Indians, points :)
  • NWIndianNation01
Ahhh...that was the team I was expecting...much, much, much better. I would say that the spread only worked alright, but when we really got clicking was when we mixed it up. I really think if we mixed it up that much against Orrville it would have been a lot closer.

I still say we aren't hitting hard on defense...seems they prefer too much to just grab the jerseys and push them around rather than actually HIT someone. Talked to a few parents last night and I believe this is due to a lack of hitting during practice...in order to save bodies due to low numbers. I understand that...but the D still needs that killer mentality.

ajwahoo...I really hope you weren't questioning my fan-hood in your post....thats bull if you were. Just because FANS don't like a style of offense that a team is running, doesn't mean that they are any less of fans. Since when are all you hardcore Browns fans happy with the way things are done...that is all you hear about is complaining about coaching or this or that. If that were true...in your mind...none of them are true fans. And just because me and a couple other posters aren't fans of the spread (and trust me, there is a lot of our "fans" out there that don't like it...but just don't post), that makes us less of fans...whatever dude.

Congrats Indians...that was a great step to working your way back to the playoffs. Now go get ready for South! Work hard! Go Indians!
  • NWIndianNation01
Seriously though...you guys drive me crazy...as long as we aren't bashing the kids, which we ARE NOT, then I don't see the problem.

What do you want us to do? Just be Whiting minions, agree with everything he does, have him be the dictator and everyone just bow down and kiss his butt and worry if we talk against him in any way it will be off with our heads? LoL Of course I am being way dramatic, but that is what it sounds like you think a fan is...and that is so far off it isn't even funny.

Like I said before, if no one had ever questioned coaches decisions or what-not, then we would probably still have some of the horrific coaches from the 90's at the helm of our Indians...and we all know we don't want that.

All I am saying is "Freedom of Speech and Opinion."
