Massillon starts season off 1-0

31-6 was the final in TigerTown. What a difference a year makes. The Tigers of Massillon Washington looked good tonight. i believe they finished the game with 0 penalties. And only 2 turnovers (a fumble late in the game, and an INT that went back 32 yards for a Buchtel TD). Massillon's "D" shut out the Griffins. Running game saw a lot of action. Passing game still needs a touch of work. Kempt did have two nice throws for TD's though. A 57 and a 32 both to Harrison.

Buchtel started off strong, but looked wore out by halftime. #4 was a beast, till he got a slight injury.

Cant wait to see the Tigers host GlenOak next week. GlenOak beat Firestone tonight 35-17.

It was fun getting to take in another Massillon game. It was fun meeting up, coyotes.

After each team had finished their first drives, no one would have guessed Massillon would roll over Buchtel. Massillon went 3-and-out with an ugly possession, and then Buchtel marched right down the field all on the ground but eventually stalled in Massillon territory. After the Massillon defense held, though, the Tigers woke up and dominated the rest of the game offensively and defensively. The pick-6 for Buchtel was a big mistake by the QB. He rolled out and tossed the ball 10 yards right into the hands of the speedy cornerback waiting in the flats. Other than that, the Tigers didn't make many mistakes. You could tell it was the first game of the season, though, as both teams used lots of timeouts before punts and other special teams plays. You always hate to see that.

I think the Tigers were READY for the Griffins this year after a huge wake-up call in the season opener a year ago. Good luck to both teams this season. #4 for Buchtel was a beast, and after he went out with an apparent right-leg injury, came back in late in the game for some more nice runs.

Hmm...how to word my take on the game...

From what I saw, Massillon really didn't impress me that much. Sure they didn't have many penalties or turnovers, but other than Winters the team just wasn't great on offense. The passing was pretty bad all night...they landed a few good ones, but the main reason they looked good was because Buchtel looked that bad. In my opinion, if Massillon looked "good" last night then the score should have been much higher.

Across the board, Buchtel looked pretty terrible last night. They would have a few series of big rushes, but then would burn out when they seemed to get things going. They were VERY one dimensional and that is why I believe they stalled out...if you know a team is going to run the ball every single play, you generally can stop it.

I just wasn't that impressed with Massillon last night. We will see for sure though next week against GlenOak. If Massillon can pull off that win, then they may be for real this year, but I just don't know yet.

Buchtel needs to really work on their O-line in order to have a successful season. Luckily they are in a relatively weak league so they should be able to make the playoffs still.

Agree....Somewhat. Offensively we had recievers open all night, Kempt just missed them. That won't happen too much this year. Our line, which didn't get going until week 5 last year, and barely at that, opened holes last night that Coyote could have ran through. If Winters impressed you, I'm surprised that Ryne Moore did not, the undersized underclassman ran with heart and determination the whole second half, running through, around and over guys, dragging a couple one play, then putting on a couple of sweet juke moves the next, finishing with 102 yards, (i believe) in one half of play.

But I think the story of the night has to be our defense, they stopped Buchtel on the crucial first Buchtel drive of the game that ended at/around Massillon's 20. They were more argessive/attacking than any Massillon D I have seen since the State Runner-Up team in '05. A speedy Buchtel offense was kept out of the endzone, and was really rendered ineffective after that first drive. Who knows what happens if they punch it in there, maybe Massillons kids hang their heads and the outcome is totally different.

Massillon has always, for some reason, played to the level of their opponent, one week they could eek out a win against a barely .500 club, the next, their playing toe to toe with Ignatius or McKinley.

Overall, I agree with you, at one point in the game, when we were up 24-6, I told a buddy that I wasn't that impressed, but the great thing is, is that you could actually see the potential for growth in this young inexperienced club. Another sign, to me is, 1, they are a young club, 2, with that naturally brings inexperience, 3, that young inexperienced club playing in the season opener....And they had 0 penalties, that tells me that these kids are coachable, which in turn means improvement is a real possibility.

The injury is not what slowed him, it was the fact that he was Buchtels only offensive option all night and he was tired by carry # 6.

Next week will be a different story, GlenOak has about 8 options.
