Youngstown's Channel 21 Sports has just announced that Howland will play Warren Harding the next two years in week3. First year at Howland, the next at Harding.

Big news. Wonder if Angle chokes one of these games away?
  • CardsFlyinHigh
I like it. Hopefully you'll be nice and softened up for when we play you week four :-) But seriously, good to see this game get scheduled. Should be a big draw for people up there

The big bad tiggers finally grew a "set" ?? :p Since all they do is cry about other people reluctently playing "up" in division with them, its good to see them finally practicing what they preach others to do.

Angle has done a nice job since coming to Howland. They will give Harding all they want next year, and the year after. Thats not downgrading Harding but the Tigers are going to be pretty good, with probally the best back in the area (Smith) being only a sophmore.

Should be interesting. Who will replace 4 yr starter Preston at qb? My guess is that Howland will have to complete some key 3rd down passes to compete in that game, eventhough Smith is a great back.

Howland fans.....Is this young Smith related to Lance Smith that graduated from Howland in 2006 and went on to play at Wisconsin before running into some team violations that forced him to leave. If so, he must be one heck of a back because Lance did some great things while at Howland.
  • Bluepride13
He is. Should break many records for the Tigers.
  • CardsFlyinHigh
Hopefully he learned from his brothers mistakes. He has a real promising future ahead of him

It's about time......one game finally put together......20 more games to go.

Howland will be a pretty good team for at least the next two years with the players they have returning. If Harding fans think that playing the Tigers will be a walk in the park they'll be in for a surprise.

Nice to see this game scheduled.

This will be great to see....too bad I won't be able to do so. I remember this old rivalry though and I'm glad to see it come back in to play. Records won't matter. Size won't matter. Status won't matter. It'll all be about what takes place on the field for both teams. Harding won't be looking past Howland and Howland sure as hell will be looking to get a statement win. Should be good.

My hat's off to those that finally put things behind them to make this happen. Now if Harding can also get back to playing Boardman and Fitch.....

I've heard Lance's little bro is better than he was at Howland. Any truth to that? I haven't seen him play, but that would tell me just about all I need to know.

Devion Smith is a different style of runner than his brother Lance. Devion is still young, and the first I saw Lance run in varsity football was as a sophomore so I don't know how to compare them as freshmen. Lance may have been a bit faster and shiftier making quick cuts. Devion is more of a North - South runner who is just as content to run over a defender as he is to run around him. If he develops Lance's speed he will be a great one. A likely scenario since he is stiil only 14 or 15 years old.

Could be a dominator. Lance Smith was a damn good running back in the MAC.

Is Preston playing on Saturdays next season? thx

The more area games the better in the Valley.

Congrats to both schools on coming to an agreement

Can any of the Harding backers give an overview of what the Raiders will have coming back next year, and what your season's expectations are?
  • wgh raider
the raiders should have a talented senior class plus a talented sophomore class. they should have at least 3 solid D1 recruits in big lineman ian folmar, wideout ed killingsworth and running back demond hymes.i imagine senior mikhail sewood will be the qb but will be pushed by 2 sophomores to be.

Sounds like you have a solid nucleus. Is that Seawood the same one that ran track for Harding? If it is he was a very good 300 meter hurdler.

As for Howland they did get alot of playing time to the underclassmen. Hopefully they will retain all the assistant coaches. Defense is normally stout from year to year. The secondary should be back minus Mangiarelli. They should have about half the offensive and defnesive line back. Looks like there will be alot of new faces at the positions of quarterback and receiver. They need to develop a system that doesn't rely solely on D. Smith. As good as his brother Lance was - Howland was about a .500 team when they relied on him alone.
  • wgh raider
that seawood was mikhails older brother mitch who is now running track at kent state. mikhail is a big kid for a QB like a culpepper type.

Does anyone have the complete Harding and Howland schedules for the 2010 season? Please post them if you do. Thanks
