Mahoning Valley teams in BOLD :]

Number 4 and 5 in D4 Orrville and Manchester would be one heck of a match up to watch.

    Where are these rankings from?

I will tell you now...Northwest is going to make some noise in D3.
  • Ohio

They look like the ones I saw on Yappi (user voting).

Figured it was either Yappi or JJ's.

I understand that D3 is stacked this year, but just watch, this NW team is loaded and work really well together! We will just have to wait and see.

I do find it amazing though that before last year, we were talked about as a power team, and just because we had a down year last year, that means we have no chance this year. Not saying this specific to this thread, just an overall feeling from multiple threads.

Ya i never really heard much about them so i can't really put much input on how they are going to be.

A down year last year? Northwest went 4-6...with their best win coming over 5-5 Alliance. You're in a division with teams whose "down years" are years when they ONLY make it to the regional finals. D3 is loaded this year...particularly region 11. Northwest may have a decent team this year, but I don't think they are getting out of the first round if they make the playoffs.

But best of luck to Northwest. It's going to be a rough go for them if they make it into the playoffs.

Don't sleep on Sylvania Southview in D1 Region 2

It seems that the OC is top-heavy with support for N-E Ohio teams... and that's cool. NE OH has a proven record of success and I respect the passion that is shown for the teams up there.

My lowly Alter Knights were reassigned to D-III this year. I admit that I am surprised, knowing what I do, with the place they have been given in the preseason poll(s).

Alter is going to be tough as hell this year. I was surprised to see them third on the list in D3. Then I saw that it was a Yappi poll and I was even more surprised. But I don't think anyone is going to be surprised if Alter is right there in the end.

Wow...pretty sure last time I checked, before last season we had the Stark county record for most years in the playoffs. Going 4-6 is exactly what I mean by having a down year. Sure you don't see that with many of the Catholic schools, but is not unusual for many public schools, especially going through the levy stress that we were.

In addition, we had a lot of very close games last year, that if we would have realized earlier in the season we had the talent and size to run the ball, the numbers could have been a lot different. Either way, that was last year and 2011 is a new year for the Indians. Just watch, you can nay-say all you want, but you will just have to see for yourself.

This isn't the puddle. You won't get banned for mentioning another website. :D

Preseason polls are funny and arbitrary.
  • ernest_t_bass
Damn, even though these polls are arbitrary, the MAC has 6 teams!

I'm not just talking parochial schools. When was the last time Steubenville had a losing season? I sure as hell don't remember. My point is that you are in a region that is absolutely loaded, and in a division that is probably the toughest competition (aside from D1). I just think that the teams at the top of region 11 are just too much for Northwest to overcome. Yes, I know they have to play the game, and anything can happen on any given day. But imagine having to get through Dover/Marlington, then Steubenville, then Mooney just to get out of the region. Its not easy for even the best teams in the region. It'll be insane for Northwest. I hope you guys have a tough schedule to prepare you for that.

Best of luck to your boys.

You really don't make any sense...just because those are big name schools, or teams with promise, doesn't mean that NW, who will be very strong but fly under the radar, can't beat them. Big Red is different than most schools...you can't compare them to most public schools, because they aren't like them. Like I said before, we will just have to play it out and see what happens. One of us will have to eat crow come playoff time no matter what.
  • Ohio
This is why they play the games so people like us can argue about them. LOL
  • NWIndianNation01
    Very true!
  • I Am Ahab
Isn't NW a doormat in the postseason most times they get in? With their region stacked the way it is this season and them coming off a losing year I think your enthusiasm may due to some wicked homerism.

Sounds like SOS's annual zeal pertaining to IC and we all know how that ends.
