RedRider1That's on the short list of bad playoffs performances in Orrville history. We haven't had too many BAD playoff losses, but that one was bad.
-
Old RiderI played in a BAD playoff loss. Sophmore year (92) season. We lossed to Lima Bath 28-0 at Arlin Field...I think we had less than 100 yards of total offense. Add that one to the list!

5knotsThe Black river game was the worst for me. Terrible weather, on top of that I had somehow been in formed by the Mrs that I had agreed to (and she had the tickets to prove it) go to an ALL DAY Couples christian conference in Columbus at the Hockey arena that same Saturday...ALL DAY....and did I mention it lasted ALL DAY. Anyway, we went the night before in the RV and after the conference I had that baby humming on the way North to the play off game to the tune of one 70+mph speeding ticket in a 55!!$$$!!! Then we get there and we get it handed to us for real!!! Only bright point of the entire night was the FOOD! that the Black River boosters were grillin' up. top notch stuff...way beyond dogs....big old Angus burgers and Brats etc.....good stuff

BRFYou will NEVER get a break from a Statie...ever. BR...isn't this stuff better that talking about the Browns? The More You Know: BR: stands for Black River, FB: football, of course, and 1986: grad year. And there you have it!Edit: that info is for all the n00bs, btw...especially the ones who have swooped down from the trees lately.

riders1Yes BRF, I won't talk about the Browns and Bengals game because this is so much funner. Well almost funner from my end
-
riders1I can't believe Joe Eitel and placing work committments ahead of the computer rankings But seriously where would we be without him waiting on the OHSAA. He deserves a great amount of thanks for his efforts!
But I can't stand waiting, he has spoiled us ! -
BRF
Funner? FUNNER? Like when I have to look EVERYTIME on the intro to our football thread that YOU started, in which you said "it's not "to" late to start talking...", instead of "too"! You hexed us!We need to get that fixed before Friday.riders1;894972 wrote:Yes BRF, I won't talk about the Browns and Bengals game because this is so much funner. Well almost funner from my end -

You graduated from high school in 1994 and your handle is Old Rider?.....I actually thought you were an old dude.Old Rider;894720 wrote:I played in a BAD playoff loss. Sophmore year (92) season. Very good team. Played tough in the heart breaking playoff loss to Aquinas. RB Ensign was a workhorse. Whatever happened to the star linebacker? I heard he wound up giving handies for pocket change in Lakewood.:laugh:BR1986FB;894128 wrote: We got the ball rolling back in 1985.

riders1Joe Eitel week 3 results are in.
http://www.joeeitel.com/hsfoot/2011region_13.html
As we thought Girard is easily in front with the other 3 unbeatens 2 thru 4, then 12 teams at 2-1. Early games lead to a lot of jumping up and down and this week the top 3 and 5 of the top 8 play winless teams so we will see changes next week as the top 4 try to hold those spots. League games starting play will change things as they play each other and drop or climb the standings. -
riders1With 7 games left, the wins available from opponents as of today.
3-0 teams and upcoming opponents wins
Girard 10 wins
Norwayne 7
Black River 6
Brookfield 8
2-1 teams and upcoming opponents wins
Perry 15 wins
Cleve.CC 7
Canton CC 4
Streetsboro 8
Orrville 11
Labrae 11
Wickliffe 14
Beachwood 13
Garretsville 12
Tuslaw 8
Hawken 12
Pymatuning Valley 7
So there are about 7 teams with significant points available to gain on the top 4. Girard would appear to have the best chance of staying top 4, with Perry, Wickliffe , Orrville, and Labrae having some crucial points available.
Rather surprising to see Canton Central's remaining 7 game have only 4 wins total which makes it very difficult for them to move up. -

That same Aquinas Team put a hurtin on my Bears in the regional final to the tune of 35-0...Red Rum;895522 wrote:

Aquinas was loaded that year. I think they had 8 or so kids get scholarships. First play of the game we had the momentum. Our fastest running back (Pfeiffer) took a handoff right off my right hip and was gone....until he got caught at about the 5 yard line and fumbled. They recovered and I don't think we even got close to the goal line again all night.Red Rum;895522 wrote:

Ensign benefited greatly from the wedge we ran on short yardage. I think he scored 22-25 of his 27(?) TD's that year from inside the 5 on wedges. All 3 of our running backs had over 900 yards rushing but nobody eclipsed 1000.
Savick was the LB you were talking about. Think he's living in Maryland. Truth be told, Jimbo Worden was probably our best defensive player. His dad played in the CFL and, I believe, for the Cowboys for a short stint. Worden was "flip the light switch and be in bed before the room gets dark" fast when going one on one with the center from the NT position. Jon Herte was also a beast of a pass rusher.
That year was the perfect storm. We were easily the best team in the county. I have no doubt we would've beaten D1 schools like Brunswick that year.
I was told by my oldest nephew that we WERE the best team in school history until my other nephew's team came along. My nephew was a freak of a QB and their team end up losing to Chanel (with Bam Childress?) in the playoffs. They had a helluva shootout with Mogadore his senior year. I think Mt Union alum Chuck Moore had 6 TD's(?) in that game and my nephew had 5. Their season hopes went down the drain when my nephew blew out his knee.
Good times...good memories. -

But Aquinas didn't know what hit em when Carlos Snow and CAPE scrubbed their tits in, I believe, the state championship.1_beast;896055 wrote:That same Aquinas Team put a hurtin on my Bears in the regional final to the tune of 35-0... -
Red RumCAPE is quite a story. Gotta love a "Physical Education" high school. or not.
BRF- just kiddin, again......somebody has got to step up now that Bloody refuses to rag on you.
BR1986- Your 85' team was loaded with talent. Not sure about Rivers chances of beating Brunswick that year, but the way the Pirates destroyed everyone up to Aquinas, I see how you could enertain that notion.
Beast- I had the unique perspective of being on a team that got hammered by both Black River (27-0) & Waynedale (35-7) that year. A Pirates/Bears matchup would have been entertaining.
My early prediction is Girard gets the 1 seed when the dust settles. -
BR1986FB
I say that because Brunswick was a middle of the pack team that year, if I recall. Had they beena 10-0 or 9-1 squad I think their sheer numbers and ability to rotate fresh players would've did us in. Still fun to think about.Red Rum;896457 wrote:

27-0? Are you from Northwestern? -
Red Rumyeah, count me among the victims of that "perfect storm" season.
Funny you should mention the noseman/DT, that guy spent more time in the backfield than our tailback. It was the first time during my playing days we ever lost to BR. Adding insult to injury, our bus got stuck and we had to push it out while being taunted by the Pirate fans. -
BR1986FBYou guys were probably the third biggest D-Line we faced that year but the kid I had over me (left defensive tackle as you're looking from the D toward the offense) stood straight up. I had him on skates and was driving him 5-10 yards into your secondary. If he would've stayed low I might have had some difficulty with him.
The worst was playing Plymouth. I think we just went up on them something like 69-0 (the score was a blowout, don't remember the specific # but it was in the 60's or 70's) and their stupid D-Lineman is screaming at the top of his lungs "c'mon guys, these guys aren't any good." I just chuckled. -

thePITmanOrrville whooped DII Lexington (2-2) by a final of 35-12. The Red Riders racked up over 300 yards of offense in the FIRST HALF before coasting (were up 28-6 at halftime).
