Steubenville Catholic Central Head Football Coach?????
-
rock_knutneI was told by someone inside of the program that Coach Gregg Bahen will not be back this season. If true, I hope he left on his own terms as he has deserved that right. Also was told that AD Steve Daley will take over.
Anyone have any info on this? -

The EqualizerWe may not have had the success we're accustomed to the last several years but its still a shock. I can't imagine the sideline without him.

passwordAs far as I am concerned, Coach Bahen will always be a role model for kids, he helped mold many young men who have and will go on to be respectful leaders in society. I would hope that CCHS and the alumni show their thanks and honor him for everything that he has done to instill respect and confidence in many kids over the years. Coach Bahen will be missed on the field.

Great post. -
rock_knutneThis is shocking in a way but i knew it would come sooner or later. Good luck to Coach Bahen, he truly defines CCHS!
As for the new HC......I support Steve daley 110% but I wish they would have at least opened the job up to the public to see who else might have an interest. There's several other former CCHS athletes who would also make greta HC's. -

Do you think Mr.Daley will water down the schedule now that he is the head coach. I don't know much about Mr.Daley except that he coached at St.Johns, what kind of teams did he schedule down there?
Maybe Coach Bahen recommended him for the job before he resigned. I would also think you would want to try and bring in the best available guy out there to lead your program. I am not sure but do current employees have the right to the coaching jobs before outsiders, I know some schools have to give their current school employees the coaching jobs if they want it before an outsider can have the job.
Will Mr.Daley have to give up his Athletic Director position to be head coach? -

Parochial schools tend to not have union contracts in place to stipulate this.password;754273 wrote:... The EqualizerSteve has been AD for several years and has been responsible for the football schedule. He already made our schedule incredibly more competitive and realistic for a D6 school and I'll take some watering down instead of playing teams 3-4 divisions bigger than us on a regular basis. I don't think he can be AD and HC at the same time but I'm not 100% sure on that. I couldn't feel more confidant and secure knowing the program is in his hands now...or will be if reports are correct.

I do agree with the schedule change. The team needs a weaker schedule to be competitive for a couple of years then gradually work some bigger schools back on the schedule and hope they stay competitive.
I still think they should have looked around for the best available guy before jumping so quick to make the announcement. You don't want to be changing coaches every couple of years because you acted to quickly to fill the opening and missed out on someone else who could have built on the tradition that the program stood for over the years. Does Mr.Daley start over with a whole new staff or will he continue with the staff that is already there. if he continues with the same support staff, then you have accomplished nothing with the change at the top. -

I'm sure he did, after all they are brother in laws. -

I had heard that before but was not sure if it was true. I wish him luck if he named the new head coach but it would not hurt to put the job out there and see if anyone brings more to the table. I would hope that they try and fill the new staff with CCHS Grads or other guys that have had a successful college football career to help teach the kids, because kids will listen and look up to other successful players. Every successful football program has a staff of coaches that were successful in their playing days and kids will feed off of that. All you have to do is look at Steubenville and Martins Ferry. -
The EqualizerI don't care if every coach on our staff never won a game in high school. If they can communicate the schemes/plays, instill toughness/respect, and light a fire under their rears thats all we want. What someone did in HS or college 10-15-20 years ago is irrelevant in comparison to those abilities. My guess would be some on the staff will be retained and some will be let go with a couple new faces brought in. Camps begin in what...2 months? Taking the time to advertise the job when we have someone perfectly capable and positioned to the take the reigns in-house is a waste of time. Besides, how many world beating coaches will be kicking down the door to come to a D6 private school who doesn't pay alot and who's won 6 games in 3 years. I can see the line forming already....

I am not looking to argue and my comment was not meant as a bashing of the current staff. In order to do all the things you mentioned and actually be able to show and teach the fundamentals that are needed to win games, you would have a better chance of teaching the kids if the coach had prior experience doing those things himself at a college level. The staff does need a shake up because I know you are not thinking that Coach Bahen was the only reason CCHS has fallen on hard times lately and all that you needed was a change in head coaches. Every coach on the staff must take responsibility for the hard times of recent years, not just Coach Bahen and if not, you are only kidding yourself. I do think some guys should stay on staff and some need to move on but they need to be replaced with experienced and knowledgeable people. The comment about no coach wanting to come to Central because they are a D-6 private school who has fallen on hard times, Coach Bahen returned when the program was down and not all people think the same way as you do when it comes to taking a coaching job, some guys like the challenge of turning a program around and making a name for themselves and the school. I have no problem with Mr.Daley as a coach and he may be the best candidate for the job but you will never know unless you advertise the opening. -

I don't think it's a waste of time at all. IMO, finding out the amount of interest in the position does two things: one, you guage where your program is with the quality and quantity of applicants received; two, you really see who actually cares about being at CCHS.
Again, I would and will be extremely happy and satisfied with Steve Daley as our new HC. -
The EqualizerDont know why I didn't see it before but WTF is up with your avatar and sig?

jasonmatkovichI was coached by coach daley while at st. Johns, he is a great motivator and the players will love him. We played shadyside, wheeling central, bridgeport, and other schools similar in size but with better overall players.

CenterBHSFanAs a fan of another school, but respectful of SCC, I have to say that I'm disappointed that Bahen's leaving - no matter what the reason(s). I'm sure it will affect the kids much more than the powers-that-be. Which to me, is a shame.
Trust me, we at Bellaire know allllllll about the political nature of these things, unfortunately.
That being said, good luck to your program in the future, hope to see things work out alright! -
ThinthickbigredIts too bad coach Bahen has stepped down ....One of the last of the old school guys He is definitly somebody I would have had my kid play for ..He did a great job at both Edison and Central .. I think he didnt get enough support from some of his higher ups through the years ,but that all comes with the times I guess.. I think its a sad time for the Centrtal family ..Some of you guys love him and some of you guys dont, and like the old saying goes " You dont know what you got till its gone" In any case good luck to coach Bahen .. Maybe he will take a year off and decide to coach another team in the valley .. long shot but Id like to see it happen

Thinthickbigredwhats Central looking like now?
