Division 5: Youngstown Ursuline vs Coldwater Game Updates
-
SQ_CraziesWenning is good. Probably for Coldwater is the Irish running game is too good. Kempe is playing a nice game in his own right, but I'm really impressed by Wenning. What kind of other offers did this kid get? I think he could play at a bigger program than Ball State. He's BIG, good arm (strong and accurate) and he's smooth in the pocket.

stroupsursuline just busted a 70 or 80 yard run for a TD

stroupsUrsuline would of had an easy pick six but the ball was deflected by one of their own players
-
StiffmanUrsuline scores on an 81 yard td run. Teague with his 3rd TD of the day.
41 - 19 Ursuline. -
StiffmanThey're saying Wenning might get drafted into MLB. Otherwise, he may be at Ball State.
-
StiffmanColdwater with a TD pass.
41 - 25 Ursuline over Coldwater. 6:00 left to play in the 4th. Coldwater went for 2 and failed. -

stroupsUrsuline with a rushing TD

That was just way too easy -
StiffmanUrsuline with the 13yd TD run by Allen Jones - first of the day, 30th of the year.
48 - 25 Ursuline with 4:35 left to play. -
King Curtis48-25 with 4:35 left
-
StiffmanHook and lateral by Coldwater - saw one last week at a Texas playoff game go for a TD. Next play Coldwater throws an INT.
-
StiffmanUrsuline with the TD run again.
Ursuline 55 - 25 with 1:46 left to play. -
SQ_CraziesBetter game than the final score indicates. Wenning is impressive for Coldwater but turnovers and bad tackling cost their offense a chance to win them this game. Ursuline is going to win by 30 and I can honestly say I'd love to watch these two play again--not saying there would be a different outcome, but that was an entertaining game to watch.

Ursuline 55
Coldater 25 -
september63Wenning looks like a real good QB. His WR's had some drops, too. The game was entertaining to watch but they could play 10 more times and Coldwater probably doesnt win. They gave up nearly 300 yards rushing. IF you cant stop the run, you arent going to win.

newarkcatholicfanI am shocked that the small public school did not fair better in this one.
Fuel for the fire for those wanting to see separate titles. -
SQ_CraziesKeep crying.
-
SQ_CraziesYou're a fan of a private school anyways.

sebastianLets just say this. Recruiting or not, we all know that these two teams players aren't all from Youngstown. Just sad to see that the first two championships were blowouts by teams who should probably be competing at the D1 level regardless of their numbers in school. I'll give congrats to both teams because regardless of that, they won and did what they had to do. Say all you want about the hardwork, dedication, and other bullshit that you believe is the reason behind it, because other schools do the same and the results aren't even nearly the same. Case in point, Stuebenville, Coldwater, etc. Take nothing away from these two schools winning their RESPECTIVE divisions. But come on, something has to give. Typically the only time that another team wins the championship where Ursuline is in their division, is because Ursuline don't make the playoffs because of their schedule. That's about the only chance teams have.

SQ_CraziesYou're right, it's sad that so many people have to come up with an excuse other than you just lost to 15-18 year old who were better than your 15-18 year olds.
And you're also right, they aren't ALL from Youngstown. Most are, but not all. However, the vast majority of them come from middle schools where traditionally nearly all of the kids move on to Mooney or Ursuline--football players or not.
Like I said, which continues to be ignored, look at all the other great programs around the Mahoning Valley that YEAR AFTER YEAR churn out college talent. And it is not a coincidence that Mooney's most difficult game in the regular season and most difficult playoff victory were against two other Mahoning Valley teams. Football around here is as good as it is anywhere in the state. In fact I'd go as far as saying that only Cincy even comes close as far as a metro area is concerned. -
sebastianA little disappointed too that Ursuline scores there at the end. Could/should have took knee as there was only a minute and change left on first down. Kind of insulting to prove even further that they are donimating. Shocked by the move from that coach.

Hmmmm, Mention that to coach Kelly of the Cincinnati Bearcats.september63 wrote: IF you cant stop the run, you arent going to win. -
sebastianI won't debate that, but you have to agree that they shouldn't be vying for D4/D5 titles. They are two steps ahead of any of those teams there and probably even D3. D2 would be hard-pressed to compete with them. If they are so good, which they are, don't get me wrong, wouldn't they want to be playing against the top big schools in Ohio and not the po-dunk small town farm villages?

I'm not. I didn't see the play but through dealings Ive had with Coach Reardon in the past, he is far from being a class individual.sebastian wrote: A little disappointed too that Ursuline scores there at the end. A far contrast from their brotherin who won this morning. -
SQ_CraziesThey certainly should be vying for D4/D5 titles--the numbers put them there. They aren't the only private schools in those division, there are a lot of them--you're not attacking them because they don't win. There are just a lot of good football players from Youngstown, always has been. Don't hate the player, hate the game. They have to play who is put in front of them, in the regular season both Mooney and Ursuline do play against bigger schools and both have among the toughest schedules in the state every year--and they still win. But with the way the playoff system is set up, why would some of the major D1 schools play Mooney and/or Ursuline year in and year out? They don't have much to gain from that as far as playoff points are concerned--they can gain from it as far as being battle tested but why would they care about that when they can play good teams that will get them legit points--including many D1 teams that they have a better chance of beating than Mooney or Ursuline.
And as far as Ursuline scoring late is concerned--that's a sad argument as well, not needed at all but that might hold water when you're talking about a week 7 game. This is the state title game and the game is played for 48 minutes. Not 46, not 40. Coldwater could have taken a knee when they realized the game was over as well--you play until the final whistle and when it's the last high school game for any senior on the team, why wouldn't you let them finish it? It's not as if they were throwing the ball. Bottom line is, if you don't want them to score then you have to stop them. That goes for anyone, in any game, anywhere.
