OHSAA Attempts to Level the Playing Field

Anyone care to explain it? -
sherm03The formula is ridiculous. There's a few examples of it on the other thread for DSJ and Mooney.
I think it's going to negatively affect some winning public schools who will vote it down. I honestly think they tried to make it way to complicated, and it may not pass. -

Huh? The votes are in. Change is coming. Embrace it. -
VikingI tend to agree with you to an extent. However, it is school administrators rather than coaches that will be voting. This proposal was pushed by a group of superintendents. IMVHO, the proposal will pass.

So then....The athletes are the ones getting the free lunches? Interesting. -

It's just a coincidence that the parochials are "lacing them up better"....right? -

Voted #1....Most idiotic statement on this site in the past year. Yes, we have a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

According to the new proposal, you aren't as good of an athlete if you get free lunches. -

Not at all, it's just that the primary reason escapes you, or you are in denial. -

Speaking of idiotic...you did see the winky thing at the end of the sentence, right Skippy? <------that's the "rolling eyes" thingy. It's self explanatory.Be Nice;648537 wrote:Voted #1....Most idiotic statement on this site in the past year. Yes, we have a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And just so I don't offend skank..."winky thing" means the specific smiley, not a reference to the male package. So no need to go all postal again. -
CardsFlyinHighSo just curious, which will the schools that are already D1 vote on this? The wont be effected in any way, so what way would they vote?
-
Con_AlmaI think they will vote no because of the possibility of being effected.
If you read the smaller print at the bottom of each section of the proposal it states that the competition committee has the ability to adjust the rule and how it's applied as they see fit. !!!
Why anyone would give this committee unlimited power to use whenever they so choose is beyond be. -
VikingThe proposal will pass. It is well intended, but very weak.
-
fish82Embrace it.
-
GoChiefsChange is coming.

Yes it is. This proposal is just a starting point. An OHSAA official stated on NPR this morning that more changes will be coming if this proposal passes and the Commissioner is strongly behind this proposal. The heat from a group of Wayne County superintendents forced the OHSAA'a hand. -

I'm in Wayne Co....and I wouldn't vote for this if I had a say.
If I had a guess, the "wayne co" bunch wants separate tournaments, or a set-in-stone multipier....this proposal is neither. -

It doesn't matter if the Commissioner is strongly behind this proposal or not. What matters is if the voters are willing to vote for this and give unlimited power to a small group who has the ability to change the proposal anytime they wish.Viking;652632 wrote:... RedRider1Last two time this has come to a vote...late 70's and early 90's...there was tons of support for a change, until it came time to actually vote. Both time, the proposals went down heavy.

The "Wayne County" bunch would prefer separate playoffs, but I think that they will go with this proposal and give it a test spend. The way it is set up more changes could come in the future. If the proposal doesn't pass that same group will really push for separate playoffs. -
rmolin73Once again let this small group push for seperate playoffs and see how hard the rest of the state laughs at them.
-
Delphosfan
Even if it does pass, if it doesn't produce the desired results, i.e. 75%+ state titles won by public schools, expect a strong push for separate playoffs. Before it's all said and done, the new tournament/playoff system will not resemble in any way, shape or form the current system. It will be a huge mess.Viking;659792 wrote:The "Wayne County" bunch would prefer separate playoffs, but I think that they will go with this proposal and give it a test spend. And THAT'S the part that a lot of people have a problem with. The committee can change the proposal, when and if they feel it needs to be changed.
So essentially, the proposal that is being voted on may not be the proposal that stays. That's a problem for a lot of people. -
VikingThe vote on this proposal is backed by the commissioner and is basically a referendum on his leadership. A no vote could rock the OHSAA to its foundation.
