ECOL adds Marietta and Rosecrans at todays league meeting

• september63
I just dont understand the Rosecrans thing at all, regarding football.

Didn't I see somewhere where they share the same field?

I believe they do Chiefs.

The question i have is with this being 2 years, out and Rosecrans having such and astonishingly low student enrollment, is there another catholic school in the area that they foresee consolidation with? (There have been many of the smaller school consolidating lately, and it seems to be something that is gonna continue as the catholic church continues its fiscal problems)

He was being sarcastic. There is 0% chance Zanesville and Rosecrans will ever play one another in football!!

But dont they use the same field? I really thought they did (at least in the 80s)

I know he was being sarcastic..but that just got me wondering about the field..I just thought I seen somewhere else that they share the same field.

Rosecrans does indeed play at ZHS. A deal was struck with them when we put the turf in last year.

Zanesville and Rosecrans will never meet on the gridiron!! Trust me......will never happen.

So if everyone believes they won't schedule Zanesville/Rosecrans and we know they won't schedule them against Phila or Dover, that leaves their crossover game against either Cambridge or Marietta? Not so sure that Rosecrans is going to like this move.

Marietta would be a good bet.

I like it, but it will hurt coshoctons computer points, we need to schedule some tuff games.

I do like this for football. As it stands at present we'd have 5 non-league games. Hopefully any further additions would as competative as the non-league opponents we could schedule. I'd like to see the Coshocton game continue as a 'non-league' game in the years it is not the crossover.

BB is a different story. Though Dover is often the 'team to beat', the whole current ECOL offers good competition year after year. (Watch out for Meadowbrook this year)

No rooting interest in the ECOL, but perhaps Warren would join? In the same county as Marietta, a Div. II school, and now very isolated geographically in the SEOAL, as the rest of the schools are more south-central/south-eastern. I have read on various forums that Warren would like to join the TVC, but they would also make sense in the ECOL since Marietta is now there.

Whether or not it was truthful or not..Warren made it clear at the last SEOAL meeting that they have no intentions of going anywhere outside the SEOAL. They said they are staying put with the league they are in now. Take it for what it's worth..but that was there words. Here's an article about that.

Who? I have honestly never heard of them.

D2 Warren Warriors..about 15 miles West of Marietta.

Who is currently left in SEOAL?
Is Warren High School in Vincent, OH? I would think if Marietta would make this jump to save on travel costs, wouldn't Warren have the same interest? Would they add to the ECOL in terms of competition, or just school size?

My current guess on cross-over games:
Cambridge v Meadowbrook
Marietta v Rosecrans
Zanesville v River View
New Phila v Claymont
Dover v Coshocton
- I could see Zanesville, Phila and Dover flipping their 3 crossover games. I would think Cambridge and Meadowbrook would play every year, although I believe Cambridge and Coshocton have one of the longer standing rivalries in the state. I can't imagine Zanesville, Phila or Dover ever playing Rosecrans in football. I know Rosecrans made the D6 playoffs this year, could they have beaten River View, Claymont or Meadowbrook this year? I know TCC beat them in week #1 pretty handily.

The SEOAL now consists of:

Logan Chieftains
Jackson Ironmen
Warren Warriors
Portsmouth Trojans
Galliapolis Blue Devils
Chillicothe Cavaliers
Ironton Tigers
Marietta Tigers

Ironton is done after this year and Marietta obviously is leaving for the ECOL.

Warren High School is indeed in Vincent, OH. I can see why you'd think Warren would have some interest considering they are in close proximity to Marietta. But IMO..it was more than just travel costs for Marietta. Nothing against the Tigers..and wish them the best..but that's just my opinion. But you read that article regarding Warren. They say they aren't going anywhere. They've been dedicated to the SEOAL for many years now. Yes..they would be more than just a school size for any league. In football any ways. Last year they finished 7-3. They were victorious against Belpre, Morgan, Parkersburg South, Marietta, Point Pleasant, Meigs, and Chillicothe. Losing to Portsmouth, Ironton, and Logan. So they can definitely add some competition as well. But I just don't see them leaving the SEOAL anytime soon. If they did leave...I'd guess they'd leave for the TVC before they would any other league.
