Euless Trinity
Record: 15-0, 8-0 in District 6-5A
Coach: Steve Lineweaver
Title appearances: 1992, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010
School colors: red and black
Playoff run:
Bi-district: South Grand Prairie, 36-16
Area: Allen, 37-35
Regional semifinal: Arlington Martin, 42-21
Regional final: Coppell, 41-40
Semifinals: Round Rock Stony Point, 28-24
Key players: Senior QB/WR Brandon Carter (Oklahoma commit, 24 touchdowns - 14 running, six passing, four receiving); RB Terrence Tusan (1,392 yards rushing, 20 touchdowns); RB Tevin Williams (1,285 yards, 19 touchdowns); OL Hiva Lutui and OL Justin Martin (both all-state selections); LB Brian Nance (more than 100 tackles, all-state selection); DL Suleiman Masumbuko (Baylor commit).
Trinity wins if: ... if it takes care of the football, puts together its typical time-consuming drives and at least slows down a team that is averaging 45 points per game. Trinity trailed in the second half of its last two games, but its combination of power and speed on offense wears down opponents by the fourth quarter.
Pearland
Record: 15-0, 7-0 in District 24-5A
Coach: Tony Heath
Title appearances: 2010
School colors: maroon and black
Playoff run:
Bi-district: Fort Bend Kempner, 28-13
Area: Beaumont West Brook, 55-22
Regional semifinal: Houston Cypress Creek, 54-7
Regional final: Katy, 38-35
Semifinals: Northside Stevens, 51-21
Key players: RB Dustin Garrison (2,703 yards, 43 touchdowns, all-state); QB Trey Anderson (2,696 yards passing, 24 TDs, four interceptions); OL Derek Hoffpauir (all-state); WR/DB Myles Kanipes (10 touchdowns as WR, three interceptions as DB); DE Samuel Ukwuachu (committed to Boise State).
Pearland wins if: ... if it can score early, not turn the ball over, and put together some long drives to keep its defense off the field. Although Pearland has a star running back, effective passing has given Trinity the most trouble. In its first trip to the state finals, Pearland needs to start fast because Trinity usually takes over games in the second half.
