Lakewood St Eds Helmet Question.

  • xnds1fan
Why do some of the helmets have a single wide black stripe and others have 2 black stripes with a white stripe between them.
  • OQB
Can anyone explain why St. Eds has like 4 different helmets kids are wearing?

Some are plain yellow probably freshman

    Greenstripe and E logo

Really thick green stripe and E logo

Green and white stripe with E logo.

It looks horrible with everyone wearing different helmets.

The stripes depend on how far from the Diocese the recruits come from.

Won't be anything malicious. Was just going to ask why he is all over parochials for "recruiting." Toledo Whitmer is a public school. That's all.

    Yes, everyone recruits.

Or, maybe,,,,,,,,,,,, And I wanna stay neutral here.

Maybe, its not so much recruiting at ANY school, as it is, kids just want to play for a certain school.

    JMHO

I was going to ask this as well. There also was a St. Ed's player that had the Green-white-green stripes that appeared to have some type of highlight/accent yellow between the green and white.

I did notice that all the defenders on the field for one play were all the players with the solid green stripe. I assume the solid green stripe is for the starting defensively players.

The all yellow helmet (as well as the non-outlined jersey numbers) more than likely was freshmen.

But, back to the one point, why is the green stripe seem to vary in width?

Sure everybody recruits lets play the smoke and mirrors game again .....Lets just put it this way good public schools are like USC we are always on sanction and cant go to "bowl games" ie playoffs if we break them .....It is so so so much harder to proove a private school recruits dont any of you see that.....

From a Mentor Lake Catholic poster: They call it a black stripe. It was brought over to St. Ed's by John Gibbons who is former HC at Ed's and he also introduced it to Lake Catholic back in the early 90's when he was HC there. Every hard hit or big play you get a black stripe on your helmet. Lake Catholic still does it as well.

Wait, I must have missed something. Why is it harder to prove that a private school recruits (you know, because every single one does it right?) then a public school? If anything, according to your logic, because tons and tons of private schools recruit, wouldn't it be easy to have at least half a dozen private schools caught with evidence a year?

Gibbons used to award black stripes for earhole hits and vicious helmet to helmet hits. Gibbons was as dirty as they come.

This is just another of the myriad inequities that benefit the the private schools at the expense of the publics.

We (publics) would not dare to display different stripes on helmets for fear being called on the carpet for such a disproportionate display of color. OHSAA would no doubt promptly slam the door on our post-season aspirations without a second thought!

But privates bring in the best looking stripes from who knows where, brazenly flaunt them in our faces and then deny their very existence and nobody but 'xnds1fan' gives it any notice. When he bravely dares to bring light to the issue he must suffer the ridicule of the masses.

What's the matter with you people? Can't you see what's going on here? Wake up and smell the holy water!

Another thread suggests a parochial school grad will most likely be wearing a different kind of stripes soon.
