Federal League....Cowards?
-
skankIt was announced today that the Federal League will remain a 7 team league for the 2011-12 athletic seasons. The last time they were looking for interested members, Massillon and Warren G. Harding both showed alot of interest, at that time, the Fed commish, Joe Eaton made the comment that, "an ideal number for the league would be 8". Meanwhile, Austintown Fitch has bolted, leaving the League with....7....members. He made the comment that they, (the Federal League), do not want to alienate Youngstown Boardman fans and program, by offering yet another Stark County school, (Massillon), yet, the very team/program they do not want to alienate, has openly looked for a new League/Conference.
This, to me, stinks of cowardice. -
icskinsWhy do you care? I have seen several posts from you and others calling the Federal League weak, and other things. Why would you want Massillon to join such a weak conference? If they are that bad and the teams are all overrated then why join?

ThinthickbigredAlot of tough teams in that league ..Would Massillon want to play 5 away games?
How big are Perry's stadium and Jackson stadium? -

Massillon has applied twice, so none of this is an issue. -
icskinsSkank,
In all seriousness, would you want Massillon in this conference? You have said how bad this group of teams is and how overrated the conference is. What would be the benefit to Massillon for joining? -

I know you are addressing skank, but, I would like to give my two cents worth, and answer the question.
It wouldnt benefit Massillon at all. In fact, IMHO, it would be a lose/lose situation for Massillon. What would be the benefit to Massillon for joining?
IF Massillon blows through the FL schedule, the people would say,,,,,,,,,,, OOOOO big bad Massillon won the Title and beat the little Fed teams.
IF Massillon losses some games in the FL schedule, the people would say,,,,,,,,,,,, OOOOOO big bad Massillon cant even beat some little Fed teams.
See, lose/lose situation.
Plus, look at the Federal League track record in the Playoffs. This year, three Fed teams made the playoffs. 2 from DI, and 1 from DII. Lake is still playing.
I like the schedule Massillon has every year. Besides the three or four teams we have every year,,,,, We get to see on average at least 5 new teams every year. A fed schedule, that would be down to at most only three new teams every year. And if we joined the FL, it would prolly not even be that. Warren and Steuby and maybe Mentor would fill the first three weeks of OL play.
I have never liked the FL, and hope they (Federal League) keep turning us down. And to say they would help our other sports, is a false statement as well, as we play most Fed teams in Basketball, baseball, wrestling, etc, etc, etc.
JMHO. -
icskinsThank you for the reply. You were one of the other people that I was thinking of and was curious what you thought as well. Personally, I feel the Fed is a good league. I think that they are tough almost top to bottom. I know that the playoff record hasn't been that great overall, but I still think that this is a tough conference. I think Massillon would be a great fit. I do think that Lake should probably look for another conference though. The problem with that is, what other conference is going to be as tough? If they can somehow win enough and can somehow stay healthy, they should be prepared to go deep in the playoffs most years.
Please understand, I am looking at it from the Lake perspective. I live in Hartville and my kids go there. So they are the team that I follow the most. -
Gardens35Since Fitch is supposed to be fulfilling it's football (not sure about the other sports) schedule obligation to the FED, I wonder if maybe NEXT year is when Massillon will be admitted. Football wise, if they took the Tigers now.....it would compel Fitch to find games for week 4 through 10, and Massillon to probably cancel whatever they have scheduled for weeks 4 through 9 (assuming McKinley in week 10).
Share opinions on this thought. -
Thinthickbigred@ Coyotes ..You will always deal with that ..We do down here all the time... If we win we were supposed to win and we should have won by more and if we lose it is an all out assault ...I like it If our programs stunk we wouldnt be targets

icskinsBut what makes Massillon so much better than the teams in the Fed? I guess I just don't see it. I am not trying to insult anyone. I just don't see them as being head and shoulders above the entire Federal League. So, to me, if they were to win then great. If they were to lose, I wouldn't consider it some huge upset or any kind of proof that Massillon stinks. I am not saying that people on here won't give you Massillon guys crap for it, but what would you expect when some of you talk down the entire conference that your school has been trying to join.

I hadn't even thought about this. The only reason Boardman is still a member is because the AAC refused to even take a vote on their application due to the fact that they wanted to join for football (Fitch is going to be everything but). It does seem fishy. -

Im not saying Massillon is any better than any FL team, personally,,,,,,,,, But, it is what everyone else would think. I have heard it enough, living in Massillon, in the past, when we have played a FL team. No matter the out come, it was what I said in my post earlier. -
icskinsI don't disagree with you. But who cares what people say. If it would be a good fit, then that should be all that matters.

Replacing Fitch with Massillon is a huge downgrade for the league....................
I'll probably get thanked soon for this useful post.
