Mr. Football

september63You make a good point. Unfortianately the voters usually go on statisitcs and how well the team was doing. There are a few averaging over 9 yards a carry. It is just for discussion, im not saying he isnt going to win. He has the full ride to WVU, he'll be fine either way!!
-
september63Someone asked earlier. Erick Howards stats this year were...........2056 yds, 337 carries, 6.1 yds per carry and 27 TD's. Great year, but IMO, 6.1 yds per carry keeps him from winning again this year. Plus Hoover's lack of a deep post season run.

FairwoodKingAnyone from Steubenville will vote for Heard. Big Red had a defense that completely shut down Masillon and Pittsburgh Woodland Hills, two very good teams. The fact that he rushed for more than 300 yards against us is amazing.
As far as Howard is concerned, he is last year's news. -
mallymal614What about Dominique Brown of Cincinnati Winton Woods?
-
SQ_CraziesHoward shouldn't have won it last year, shouldn't win it this year. Not a knock on him, he's a good player but not Mr. Football.
This award has meant nothing to me ever since Dan McCarthy didn't win it.
And I laugh at the guy that said Howard=OSU, Heard=WVU, nuff said. HAHA, whatever. Braylon Heard is a much better back than Howard. He'll be good at WVU, just watch. Did I miss something, or did OSU even offer Howard? He would never even carry the ball there anyways.
That all said, I don't know who should win it. Heard probably won't but I think he should--everyone keeps saying it's all about stats, well looking at his numbers and then considering he only had 36% of Mooney's carries (which is a stat) says A LOT. -

OneBuckeyeAfter looking at the stats and considering the teams they were both on I would vote Heard between the two, but I don't know enough about any other candidates to say Heard should win over them. Is Mr. Football supposed to include performances in the playoffs? If it does Heard's performance against big red was heisman like and may be the best of the playoffs this year. Latwan Anderson's performance against Iggy may match Heard's.
-
unclestinkIt is suppose to be based on regular season but it is not voted on by anyone. It is a selection by a select few at the Ohio AP office based on one nomination from each of the 6 districts.

september63Id say it comes down to 4..........Dominique Brown, Braylon Heard, Allen Jones or Erick Howard. Maty Mauk will win this before he graduates. Go ahead and bash me now, for these are just my opinions.

mlisi39The most important player doesn't always have the best numbers.
Danny McCarthy got hosed a few years ago because Tanski had all these crazy numbers, even though McCarthy was clearly the best player on the field when Mooney beat Mentor in week 1. -
fuss2I don't think you can forget that Howard also had over 100 tackles from his linebacker position to go with his 2000 yds.
-
tank2nastyNo love for Dwight Macon?
-
devil1197Howard will never really get a chance at OSU, assuming he goes there or they offer him.
OSU will have Herron and Saine back along with Berry and Hall. Then you have Hyde coming in to OSU and Smith from Indiana who people believe will be a great RB.
I don't see room for Howard anywhere on that list. He shouldn't win Mr. Football imo. -
skank
That is against Federal League competition though, I'm 41 and I would have had 100 tackles and at least 1400 yds rushing against the Fed.fuss2 wrote: I don't think you can forget that Howard also had over 100 tackles from his linebacker position to go with his 2000 yds. -
SQ_CraziesTanski put up big numbers, but so did McCarthy. He was a threat to score a TD on ANY play in the game. Offense, defense, special teams--ridiculous player to watch. He was a step ahead of everyone else.
What is all this Howard/OSU talk? There is no way he gets an offer. He would never carry the ball there, they'd turn him into a DB or he'd be a career special teamer. Like I said, good player, but come on. -

Free_is_betterMr football is a joke. How the hell did Howard get it again?

SQ_CraziesWell he put up GREAT numbers and he should be congratulated for his talents. I agree, he isn't the best player in the state but that's how he won it--crazy good numbers. But it's not as if he was the only one that put up great numbers. Hell, we had a QB throw for over 2,000 yards and run for over 1,000--also was a force on defense as a LB like Howard was (not sure how many tackles) and he only got special mention All State.
