Yes.
Jewett should be a pushover, but Cadiz is usually pretty decent. -
bases_loadedI heard Urichsville and Dennison are going to combine this year, should make for a top notch division III team. Look out region 11

wes_mantoothI think Indian Valley North will be our toughest opponent.

Indeed it was.....although, I was hoping a few people would know that we never had football to begin with and this was done tongue n cheek. -

Freeport did have football till the early 60's. Lakeland started in 64 or 65 I believe.
Heard rumors a kid was either hurt bad or even died and that ended the program. -
wes_mantoothI was always told that it was just a "rumor" about the kid dying. Our athletic director(also my father in law....ex father in law now...lol) said it was just the simple case of not enough numbers to have a team and also the cost to dress a player was too much for our school.

DarkonWes, have you heard that the locals want to by Lakeland and open their own school? Talked to a couple of people that this was in the works but then I was told there was a claus in the sale that would prevent anyone using it as a school.
Maybe Lakeland will be back some day. -
wes_mantoothlol...omg, I heard the craziest rumor on Saturday night. I heard that the Freeport Press was going to buy the school and use it to house Guatamalans(sp?)....

These rumors circulate at schools that don't field a football team. One of the rumors we grew up with at Hiland was the Amish guy who sold the land to the school district restricted in the deed that there would be no football. Either during his lifetime or perpetually. No one really knew. It all comes down to money and numbers. Hiland today has the numbers, but it now has an established soccer program. That is not going away and shouldn't. Currently they don't have the numbers to sustain both. Maybe at some point in the future they will.
The East Holmes School district is in a precarious situation when it comes to levying taxes, especially for sports programs. We have to deal with significant numbers of the Amish community who would religiously vote against any levy based on sports. This is the reason why Hiland's current gymnasium was funded with private funds and eventually turned over to the school district. Those Amish that allow their children to be publicly educated only allow it to the level of the 8th grade. Any tax levy benefiting those at the high school level is an up hill battle. -
wes_mantooth^^^We always joke with the Amish at work that the only reason any of them vote is to vote down school levies.

Obviously there were 11 kids on the team then tragedy struck and you can't play with 10!
