Home field advantage question

  If you look at betting lines for pro and college football, the standard is that the home team gets 3 points. So if the 2 teams are equal, the home team is favored by 3.
  
  What do you think the home field in high school is worth? I think it is more of an advatage than in the pros. I would say 5 or 6 points maybe.

  You say even so ill take that as if teams met on nuetral field . -6 seems fair for a home team playing an evenly talented away team in HS . However the high school game in itself is very fluid and many more intagibles might have to be added. Home stadium ie Harding stadium or PBTS you would have to up that spread another 6 points. No bookies ever make money on HS football. A few smart guys tried doing it . They tried making spreads and the last time I heard during a span of 44 weeks the bookies lost HS bets 43 weeks .

  Good, I hope they lost a ton. I don't want to encourage betting on high school sports. I was just curious waht everyone's thoughts were.
  
  You are right, I guess. Different places would have different spreads, advantages. How much does travel time play into that as well? Say a team coming from Toledo to play at Massillon. Does that add another point?

  It doesn't matter imo...doesn't matter if you are away or home you still have to show up, play, and score points. Just by being at home doesn't put points on a scoreboard.

  Aniother factor could be if a turf team has to play on grass or vice versa.

  I understand that you still have to play the game, but are you really suggesting that there is no advantage to playing at home?

  Sure there is the "home" factor, more comforting. But no I don't really think there is an advantage. The best team will win.

  Ok, I see what you are saying. I think that there can be an "advantage" though. If the visiting team has been on a bus for 3 hours just to get here, and the home team relaxed. That could be an advantage. If the home team has a great fanbase, I can see that can make a difference too.
