2009 All-Blade Team

Thought they did a great job. Obviously someone will always pointout how some kid got slighted but all in all I thought they did a great job.

Congrats to all that made it!

Anybody know why the Blade suddenly decreased its coverage area this year? It no longer pays any attention to schools outside of the NLL, SLL, TCL, TAAC, NWOAL, and then some schools in the Findlay area and east of Toledo. It's not like it costs them extra money or anything, just to list a school in their stats or bold that school's name on the scorecard page. The schools it no longer mentions didn't even get any kind of spotlight coverage until all the closer schools were eliminated in post-season action, anyway. It's like they specifically pick and choose what schools they want to mention in their coverage, but yet the newspaper gets distributed to more areas.

By the way, here is the team: http://toledoblade.com/assets/pdf/TO698011126.PDF

Two thing stand out on that list.
    1) All seniors except one junior and one soph.
    2) DT from Whitmer is 6-5 250 as a soph!

I noticed that too Sonofanump, an Wormley the soph is a DE.

Kenny Hayes is marked wrong on there he is a jr

Kenny was marked as a jr.

They are talking about the incredible Chris Wormley.

I was trying to think of another sophmore named to the All-Blade team and couldnt. Perhpas Rob Cameron from Start was several years back. Regardless, what an honor for Chris.

Personally, I felt Wormley was the best of the bunch that I saw play this year. It is scary to think how good he could be if he continues to develop as a player. I venture to guess, he very well may be the best DL to come from Toledo area in quite well before all is said and done. Lets just hope they keep him pointed in the right direction athletically and academically.

He has good grades and is a really good kid! He is a 3 sport athlete too.
A little fyi! As a freshman Wormley was one of 6 at districts in shot-- as a freshman!

With his size I would imagine he is or will be a DI one prospect...do we think he will be a Big 10 type player or MAC?
  • irish_buffalo
When all is said and done Chris will be able to pick his school.

I think there should be a first and second team all blade

At one time I approached the Blade about being a media partner for them and their sports department since I saw that their area was decreasing. Never got any reply back.

Now, I can say, "ah well" because we're now a media partner of Fox Toledo.

buckeye, I couldnt understand why this season their coverage decreased as well.

I noticed, for instance, that Fremont Ross never submitted stats on a weekly basis all year. Unsure if it was Kidwell's decision or if Blade cutbacks had more to do with it? Either way, I thought for sure that Michigan signee Greg Brown would have made the team and he didnt even get mentioned. Dont understand why you'd slight Ross and Findlay, especially when Ross just joined the TCL?

Hopefully he'll stay and play for Toledo. That would be great. I love seeing the local players play for Toledo. Page, Tucker, and Claus just to name a few.

I e-mailed the Blade asking why they decreased their coverage area and got a big fat no response. Thanks a lot, jerks.
