Where would you like to see the state finals be?

D1 cutoff 518. Glenville 545, Massillon 553. These are the number of boys in 9, 10, & 11th grades.tank2nasty wrote:
Really? I thought Glenville had a pretty large amount of boys in their school?ridgerunner88 wrote:
Glenville and Massillon are the same size, barely D1. Davidson is the biggest left with 860 then Elder with about 700.tank2nasty wrote:

Big Al CarterKeep them in the greatest County in OHIO, Stark. Where else can you go to High School Championship games, at High School stadiums, that have College like atmospheres!!!!!!
-
adogI definitely do not want to see them in the SHOE, unless the vast majority of the seats could be screened off someway as this venue is too big. BUT that being said...Yes i would like to see them a different venues around the state. Stark Co. has done a tremendous job, but these games should be played around the state at different venues IF they cannot be held in central Ohio.
-
Puddle JumperPut them in my back yard!
I heard a voice in my head it told me "If you build it they will come"
So I better get to work. -
CardsFlyinHighI think it's a perfect set up in Stark County. It's the Hall of Fame, the birthplace of football. They just belong there.
But as a side note, If they were to ever go to Columbus. I would much rather see them at a place like Dublin Coffman instead of the shoe. They need the high school stadium atmopshere. -
Jimmie CopasIt aint broke...don't try to fix it.
-
ZalKathKeep them in Canton and Massillon...Ohio Stadium is just too large a venue for High School Football...

skankI believe that some kids would really like the chance to play at a Professional stadium, or at a major college stadium like Ohio Stadium, and some kids, I'm sure, like it the way it is. But, i truely believe that most states would love to have the setup that we have here in Ohio.

football71You guys don't know about the best part of having the games in Stark County for us football officials. We have a hospitality room in the HOF, where there is food all day long, the games are shown on a huge screen if we don't want to go to the stadiums, and it's all free. That includes admission to the HOF, too. They treat us very well.

The Massillon, Glenville, and private school recruiters were attacked by police dogs at the state championships while discussing the turd that is the Federal League!skank wrote:
I do like how you guys wotked Massillons championships into the conversation though, now all we need is.
#1 Massillon recruits
#2 Private Schools recruit
#3 Police dogs being present at the finals
#4 Glenville recruits

Full_countLets throw out a few facts:
1.) The Stark County contract currently runs through the 2011 games. It will be open again for bid for the 2012 games.
2.) Ohio Stadium was used in the 80's and it was a disaster... mainly because of the size of the Stadium. 100,000 seats makes the crowds at State Championship games look like nothing.
3.) Crew Stadium was not there the last time the games were held in Columbus. At 19,000 seats, Crew Stadium is an viable option. It has easy access off of I-71 and there are plenty of hotel rooms at nearby exits. Crew Stadium is also NATURAL GRASS. (well manicured and taken good care of. No problems with a bad field.)
4.) There really is not a second venue to hold the games in Central Ohio. Upper Arlington and Dublin Coffman are both about 12,000 seats. Could possibly hold some of the smaller games.
5.) The OHSAA could offer practice fields for teams in Central Ohio. UA, Coffman, Scioto, Gahanna, DeSales, Hamilton Township all are turf and could be used as practice fields if teams desire.
6.) Columbus is Centrally located and easy access to most parts of the state.
7.) Nearly every other State Championship game/series is held in Central Ohio with the exception of 4: football, softball(Akron), Swimming(Canton) and Girls Volleyball (Dayton). There really is no venue for softball in Columbus, but the new swimming facility at OSU could eventually bring that sport to Central Ohio. Volleyball could move to St. John Arena but will probably stay in Dayton.
So perhaps next year, the Central Ohio powers that be will put together a proposal for 2012 utilizing Crew Stadium and Coffman for the games. In the era of schools complaining about transportation costs, the OHSAA may be more willing to look at the issue because of the Central location. (if the district/regional tournaments are being directed to cut travel costs/time, then why not the top dog as well?)
How about an "alternating" schedule. Even years in Central Ohio, Odd in Stark County. -

Ya, I know a bunch of kids that want to play in stadiums that are over 80% empty.skank wrote: I believe that some kids would really like the chance to play at a Professional stadium, or at a major college stadium like Ohio Stadium, and some kids, I'm sure, like it the way it is. Seriously Ohio is not that big, and ~250 miles is not that far. I've driven from Cincinnati to Stark County 3 times to see Mooney play in the title game. Never once did I wish that it was any closer.
Keep em in Stark County. Don't rotate them, don't play football at a soccer stadium, don't give in to the whiners. -

The OHSAA requires the finals be on turf. One would think that would put Columbus Crew Stadium out. -

Actually, the OHSAA allows the finals and semi-finalls to be played on either turf or manicured/controled natural surface. Crew Stadium actually has a system in place to keep the field from freezing. They played an international soccer game there in January a few years ago and the field was perfect. Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati is also natural surface and has been used for Regional finals in the past as well.football71 wrote:

Have any of you actually been in Crew Stadium? It is a wonderful facility and has been used several times for big Central Ohio games. There is not a bad seat in the house as far as field view is concerned. Video board that shows replays, ample on site parking (it's on the State Fairgrounds) and a great field that will not have soccer lines running on it.
Besides, most turf field stadiums have soccer lines (and sometimes lacrosse lines) all over them in addition to the football lines. Doesn't that make those stadiums "soccer stadiums" as well?
It's funny, how the Stark County people are trying to find every way possible to discredit Crew Stadium. Crew Stadium is the first real threat to taking the games from Stark County and so we have to try and discredit a great stadium. I have been in Fawcett Stadium... trust me, Crew would be a nicer facility.
As far as the distance is concerned: Why force people to drive 250 miles when it is only 100 miles to Columbus? For a bus that is another 50 gallons of gas at least. Waste of money and waste of gas. Most people in Cincinnati, Ironton, Portsmouth can get to Columbus in under two hours. To get to Canton, it would be about four. Twice the time, how is that fair? -

Been to Crew Stadium many times...saying it is a nicer facilty than Fawcett and Paul Brown is ludicrous! The only thing Columbus has going for it is location...end of story...Full_count wrote:Mooney44Cards wrote:

Crew Stadium a threat ?? Let's CONSIDER this -- Friday & Saturday it rains the entire day -- how do you suppose that field would be?Full_count wrote:Mooney44Cards wrote:

No thanks !!!
Stark County has 2 of the BEST High School Stadiums in the NATION as well as experience in hosting not only the HS finals but the HOF game, which is monumental in comparision of the HS finals. The area supports the games and does an outstanding job overall - Non -issue IMO unless they decide they DON'T want to do it anymore?
Travel an issue -??- then pack your bags and break out the basketballs -

And Columbus doesn't need any more of my money, they do well enough with what they all ready take! If you REALLY WANT to be at all the final games ,you go, and distance you have to travel is irrevelant!!
To whine about a few miles and some gallons of gas is a joke!
My god people, THE HORSE is DEAD! -
Mooney44CardsI've seen both football (Elder vs Findlay 2002) and soccer played at Crew Stadium. Its nice....its a soccer stadium tho and you can tell.

justcompeteI wouldn't have a problem with Stark County if there were enough quality hotel rooms and safe neighborhoods. I think the games should be cycled from Cleveland Browns to Ohio Stadium to Paul Brown. The kids would much rather play at those sites. An 18 year old kid has no idea what the history of Massillon Paul Brown stadium is, and doesn't care. My son had the best time in his life playing in Massillon during a snow storm in his tennis shoes because of the POS turf they had up until 3-4 years ago.
Oh yea, the 4-5 cars parked around me really enjoyed replacing their slashed tires also. -
