This is what happens when TWO CLASSY schools play.ts1227;513043 wrote:As a moderator, I would like to commend everyone on coming back tonight and responding with class. With the teams involved having such large and emotionally attached fanbases, and the result being somewhat surprising, I was expecting some fireworks on this thread this evening (from both sides) and have come away presently surprised thus far.
Great job, and I wish both teams the best (unless we play Big Red in the playoffs again )
Maybe other fans should take notes, and learn something. -
skankSUPER787;513087 wrote:You are correct. Fact is, we couldn't go away from it. Several of our prime receivers were injured for this game and if you were there you would have seen how poor the passing game was. Second line receiver caught a good pass and run but could not hold the ball; he had it stripped. QB threw one pass directly at a defensive man that went for a touchdown.
Several runs broke out for sure scores but got run down from behind. When you become one dimentional, you will not win many games playing good teams.
Massillon played a great game: quick and intense.
Reno emphasized two things for this week: protect the ball and play physical. We played physical, but with six fumbles, we obviously did not protect the ball.
That's it in a nutshell. Massillon played a great game and hat's off to them. I hope the young man who looked as though he sustained a leg fractue, is doing better.
Your running back reminds me of the type of kid Ignatius usually has, hits the hole quickly, runs hard north and south, and has some nice moves in close quarters, although he looks like he lacks the speed of a proto Ignatius back.
Now I know without a passing threat, all that means little.
Thanks for the well wishes 787, I watched the replay on our channel last night and while being carted off the field, he gave the thumbs up and looked comfortable. Ben Hampton is a really nice kid. Good luck to your injured players also. -
ZWICK 4 PREZNow.. I understand from a logistics standpoint the benefits of playing in the Federal League. But would you rather watch last nights game or a game against Lake?

war_admiralCongrats to the Tiger Nation
Great game plan all the way around (including the spray paint lol) coach Hall didn't leave anything to chance. If he was going down, he was going down swinging! Real good coaching. You should be real proud of him and the effort of the ENTIRE team, not just the stars.
I love this series. I hope it will continue. Good luck the rest of the way. TIG....

skankIf we were in the fed, we would have a 1 or two games like this a year. Which ever team is the 'hot' team that year would bring a crowd, if they think they don't have a chance, they aint coming. Also, playing home and home in a league, there is a chance that if a team IS having a good year, the game would be at their place, and even if it is a sell out, you're looking at 6-7,000 people. And lets be honest, even against McKinley, regardless of where it is played, if the crowd is announced at say.... 19,000, 11,000 of them are Massillon fans, about 5,000 McKinley fans, and about 3,000 from other area schools who want to see Massillon lose.

You're welcome. The little fellow had 33 carries for 198 yards. Total team rushes: 57 for 306. Over 400 yards of total offense and only came away with 7 points. I can't remember ever seeing another game like this one.skank;513290 wrote:Your running back reminds me of the type of kid Ignatius usually has, hits the hole quickly, runs hard north and south, and has some nice moves in close quarters, although he looks like he lacks the speed of a proto Ignatius back.

Now with the mounting injuries, we will face another team that both run and pass well. How quickly a season can turn sour.
Watched both the Reserve and Freshmen games today. B.R. Reserves lost handily 36-0; B.R.Freshmen won 22-14. -
BigYtownRedCongrats Massillon on a nice victory over the Red. Not surpised by the outcome, but very surprised by six TO's!
I did notice a little shot @ us not playing an Ohio team thusfar & that had zero to do with tonight's outcome. McKeesport, PA & St. John's from DC had very good D's. We scored 7 in one game & 14 in the other. In both games were were kept out of the endzone for a complete half just like tonight.
We are not that difficult to figure out on O. If you shut down the run up the middle you have stopped our O. We don't have the speed to the outside & after having three very talented QB's we are stuck with a kid who is a solid athlete but not a QB. I think we were inside the 15 three or four times & Massillon did a great job of stopping the run. What's left is a chicken w/his head cut off running around hoping to chuck one up on a pass play for a TD. That works against Brooke & Wheeling Park but didn't work tonight & it definitely won't work next week against UHS who would whack a good Massillon team.
IMO we should have left him @ receiver & had #10 QB'g for two seasons but whatever.
Hope the series continues it is great for both towns, schools, fans, etc.
Love everything Massillon does to put on the show that is great HS football.

Red LadyI am old enough to have attended all the Massillon/Big Red games back 40+ years ago and among my lasting memories from those games have always been the huge Massillon crowd. Sometimes when you are real young some things seem bigger than life. But, I have to tell you, with all the other high schools that you now have in your area, I was quite surprised that the Massillon fan base doesn't seem to have declined one bit from those old days. What a great atmosphere! Everything was first class! Outstanding view of your training center from the visitor stands.
As disappointed as I am that our Red could not bring home the win, I hope this series goes on and on. It's high school football at it's finest!

Gardens35...read somewhere that Massillon was missing it's #1 and #2 Rb's, MLB, #1 Safety, and started a sophomore QB? If that's all true I want to say "Cool Story Bro"..........if it's not true I don't want to say "Cool Story Bro".

REDDEVILMaybe the Big Reds will quiet down for a while------alittle humble pie anyone?

It's true, #1 RB Jake Reiman=out, #2 RB Alex Winters=out, (actually they are interchangeable), ILB Clayton Mattox+out, #1 safety S Alex Winters =out, Kyle Kempt, a sophomore making just his 4th start, Kentrell Taylor, a sophomore making just his 1st start, actually, we used our backup holder on PATs also. So....I guess after further review, your "Cool Story Bro" stands, And stay off that other site. -

It's BIG RED not big reds.
And why should you want us to be quiet?...are we too loud for the OTHER threads? Are members having trouble posting cause were too loud ? Maybe you should just stay off our threads, then you wouldn't need to worry about just how loud the BIG RED NATION is.
Another thing is, I would like to see any team in Region 11 play Inkster, McKeesport, St John's College (DC) or heck even Morgantown, Brooke and the NY teams would give most, if not all the teams in Region 11 problems. I love how other teams fans open their mouths about our schedule and the teams WE play.

ferflogOur schedule is indeed challenging. I thought last year's was too challenging, and I will reserve my opinion on this year's schedule until after the Ursuline game Friday night and I see what kind of product Big Red puts on the field with all the injuries we have suffered.

Technically, you didn't. You said....And I qoute. "I see Massillon winning this by a touchdown, with the help of the hometown officials."
So, technically, you were very wrong....On both counts. -

I am here. still with bad taste in mouth . We didnt do our job . we didnt protect the ball . we ran up and down the field and fumbled ,fumbled interception and flagged on the 1 yd line all in the red zone and then we give up two trick plays . Then theyre reserve team come up and pummles us on Saturday. What friggin year is this 1978 . totally disgusted. and to the red kneck with the skull cap who took my buddies seat after he left for halftime break . Thanks I guess you had to get closer to me for some reason. Ill be looking for you next year when I sit in your endzone. I did meet a guy that said he was Justin Turners uncle he was intellegent . I do like intellegent football talk . Massillon knows how do homefield advantage for sure have to give them that. -

Cheer up! You have to remember that with Massillon keeping their first team in for the whole game, that left a lot of backups for the reserve game. And, Massillon has a fine backup QB in that no.5 kid. We won the freshman game and the 7th and 8th grade teams both were winners up at Massillon. All 3 groups are both big and talented.
No sin in dropping a game. You know the situation we are in. Start rooting for the team to keep it interesting this week. This is one game where if it rains, it may be to our advantage due to our strong run defense.
Cheers. -
skankMassillon had no choice but to leave most of it's starters in, we had to play alot of 2nd and 3rd stringers in the varsity game, this is in no way me saying "we beat you with our second string", but rather explaining why some Steubenville fans MAY think we left them in on purpose.
