RAWSON — Jesse Sutter split the uprights on a 33-yard field goal with just under six minutes left in the game and Pandora-Gilboa slipped by Cory-Rawson 9-7 Friday on the Hornets’ homecoming in a Blanchard Valley Conference game.

Cory-Rawson (2-2, 1-2 BVC) had one last-gasp attempt to score, but the Hornets turned the ball over on downs on Pandora-Gilboa’s 31-yard line with under two minutes left.

DJ Geiger led the Rockets (2-2, 2-1) with 122 yards on the ground on 27 carries, while Josh Breece threw for 166 yards and ran for 36 more.

Breece found Tyler Fenstermaker, who had 77 yards receiving, on a 23-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring with 3:36 left in the first quarter.

Cory-Rawson answered quickly as the Hornets marched 54 yards on five plays with Jeremiah Alspach hitting Cody Thacker on a 32-yard touchdown putting Cory-Rawson ahead 7-6.

Alspach passed for 166 yards, but was only 12 of 31 passing with an interception.

Kyle Sprosty (4 receptions, 50 yards) and Adam Rosendale (3, 56) led the Hornets’ receiving.

Pandora-Gilboa held Cory-Rawson to just 16 yards on 24 carries.
