Texas vs. Florida in DeSoto, Texas was this weekend, 4 more games involving big match-ups.
I would have never guessed that Texas has 4x as many players as Florida.

Across Texas, where approximately 165,000 high school students compete in football, it's not uncommon to see high school stadiums that would rival those found at small college programs.
Most head coaches at large public schools aren't required to teach and instead, have administrative roles. Their staffs often include multiple, paid assistants.

Little of that exists in Florida, where 38,291 students compete in football and many school districts face budget cuts that often impact sports programs.
"But you know what you're getting into here. If you're coaching for the money, this isn't the place to be. If you want to help kids, this is your place."

DeSoto 42, Miramar 41 (OT) Final

DeSoto stops Miramar try for 2.. roll right and throw deep back left.. receiver catches ball but was out-of bounds.. looked pretty definite that he was out, DeSoto was ready for this play after it had worked for a 2-point conversion earlier in this shootout from a pair of state-ranked teams...

I've got FBS Texas with 10 and Florida with 7. I was looking this up because Florida does not have many lower level NCAA football schools.

    D3- Tex 9, Fla 0
    NAIA- Tex-2, Fla 2
    D2- Tex 8, Fla 0
    FCS- Tex 7, Fla 2

Texas 26, Florida 4. Not alot of places to play if you don't have D1 ability.

? I don't know, just copied those from the newspaper. I was more focused on comparing high schools, the college difference you post is noteworthy.
    I see Wiki has 10 & 7 . Fla has 3 FCS.
I knew there aren't alot of small college programs in Fl. I guess after the northern states pick the high schools clean there are not enough kids left ? D1 or bust, ha.

Yeah, my intent was not really to correct you but to show that there are 36 football colleges in Texas and 11 in Florida. Ohio has 41 with a 11.5M population.

Only 11 Florida colleges with football? noway I will say this Texas has 3 times the people Ohio has and Florida 2 times the people Look at how many people we get into the pro's per capita . OHIO IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE #1

Thanks, they add up to some very interesting numbers. I guess that's a good reason so many Florida kids play college elsewhere. There are a bunch of schools that were Junior or Community Colleges that are growing to offer 4 yr degrees(Daytona State), but I don't hear about new football programs very often. UCF football took almost 30 yrs to get a stadium.

Wrong, per capita Louisiana has more. Unless you can show me big changes for today's rosters.
2009 NFL regular season kickoff rosters California (205) Texas (179) Florida (176) Ohio (90) Louisiana (80) Georgia (80) Per capita wise Louisiana leads with 1 player for every 55,862 residents, followed by Mississippi's 1 player for every 67,730 residents, and South Carolina with 1 player for every 78,667 residents.

Florida has alot of top D-1 teams though . Ohio has 2 OSU and Cincy and Cincy just came onto the seen . The MAC schools sometimes are decent so we may on occasion get 4 bowl teams from the GREAT STATE OF OHIO!!!! Like say the Bucks and Bearcats plus maybe Ohio, and Toledo or Akron . But in Florida you guys have FSU, Florida ,Miami of FLA, and then you got USF,UCF, Florida Atlantic ,Florida INt those last two are like MAC schools But you have three schools comperable to OSU

LOL, you got pwned saying Ohio has more pro players, now read this : Ohio has 8 FBS programs, Florida has 7, time for you to spin the topic again.
How about - 'tOSU has more national titles than any individual Florida school.' Does that work for ya ?

and 3 top schools in Fla dilutes the talent pool compared to tOSU, who is THE team for top Ohio kids to go to.

I saw Cocoa in Woodland Hills last weekend, they had a nice team, and were actually my favorite team to watch out of all the teams besides Big Red.

    Boy, they are getting around.

I saw their first game vs Olive Branch. It was an instant classic. The stadium was rockin on a couple of big goal line stands by Cocoa, one in the last minute.
