Smithville @ Dalton

These 2 rivals hook up to open the WCAL season. Thoughts?

Well never want to count Smithville out, but injuries continue to plaque them. I'll go with Dalton.

absolutely can't count the smithies out - especially if roseler plays. Doesn't sound like lint will play in this one either for the dawgs. With tuslaw the common opponent, you have to lean dalton's way. but that is an imperfect way of predicting. This rivalry game can always go either way, and smithville will be looking for revenge after last season's big loss. I still have to go with dalton here.

VERY GOOD RUNNING GM, NO PASSING GM, POOR DEF. ITS GOING 2 BE A LITTLE ROUGH YR FOR SMITHVILLE
  • Havin Fun
48-13 Dalton regardless if Roesler returns or not. Dalton is that good and one player can't carry a team against a good opponent.
  • Mr. Russell
It has been a year from hell for Smithville. No team around here can ever win a game without their three best players. I hope at least a few can play this weekend so it's close.

This is one game that can get crazy, I hope we're not overlooking the Smithies. Too bad they have key players injured, especially if they aren't able to play at all in this one.

    GO BULLDOGS
  • beverboy1
I WOULD BE EXCITED 2 C LINT JUST DRESS FOR THE GM IF HE PLAYS OR NOT!!

That's the big problem with small schools, they can go for a couple years with a pretty thin team. It's hard to win every yearwith the no.s we deal with. smithies are in that spot now, we may be there soon also. the good programs though have history and tradition that always seem to pull through and bounce back, smithies ,dogs , and waynedale have that. some of the other schools are now getting that. Norwayne and Hillsdale are no longer considered easy dormats. Huskies are always tough and a factor in the mix. Most any team in the league is an injury away from disaster, that's the way it works in small schools. That's why it's usually a private or Parochial school that wins the titles because they play by different set of rules.

I think dogs will roll in this one, Blevins is running like a man on a mission! Defense needs to improve on open field tackling but still to fast for most teams to handle. Bulldogs by at least 2 scores.

ANY WORD ON ROESLER FOR FRIDAY I CAN'T C HIM PLAYING IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS PRETTY BAD WHEN HE WENT OFF
  • Havin Fun
Typical concussion would keep anyone out of practice for at least one week. A severe one probably two weeks which means missing up to three games. I have no idea how bad Roeslers was but I can't see any dr clearing him to even practice this week if he in fact had a concussion. These are very dangerous and coaches are finally realizing how risky they are for kids.
  • Mr. Russell
Roseler is 100% out this week for Smithville. Hopefully Hilty can go. In Smithville we hope Roseler can get back for some of the county, it was his third concussion and that is when it starts getting extremely serious. Sophomore Josh Leach is next on the depth chart for Smithville at quarterback.
  • beverboy1
thats not a very good thing 3 concussion
  • 1486wd
if my kid had his third concussion, he would be getting out his hoop/track shoes about now. Its not worth the risk
  • Havin Fun
As I posted on the WCAL board, I really don't see any doctor releasing a kid with 3 previous concussions to play football. I can't say I know of any kids who continued after the second one in football. With his speed I would focus on track and avoid any contact.
  • mompov
Gotta agree there...he has the rest of his life to think about. Say goodbye to football, hard as that is.
  • Coach 08
Sad to hear about Roseler that is tough on a Smithie team that continues to have injuries as does Dalton. I think Dalton wins this, close first half but then Dalton pulls away in second half. But after this year Dalton will be in trouble from what I am hearing with the number of kids playing football there and talent drops as well. Good luck to both teams hope it is a great battle like back in the early 2000's when they played both teams with great talent but I do not see it.

You may be right about the future Dalton squads. I did hear the jv was aweful Sat against Waynedale. Never got past mid-field and it was like 35-0? Sure wish there was a good place to get JV scores. Anyone know a place?

Based on the common opponent Tuslaw and without Roesler I don't see how this won't be a romp. Sad to say.
  • beverboy1
daltons jv tm is made up with 8o% of the starters r freshmen dalton will be ok
  • mompov
True about Dalton jv starting mostly freshmen. Sure would like to see them get to play some freshman ball. They need to get some confidence. They were killed by injuries in 8th grade last year and it's made them tentative. Puts coaches in a tough position....let the varsity hit 'em hard in practice to toughen them up, or lay off to give them confidence....
  • 1486wd
probably more than 80% freshman actually on the jv team - there is really only 3 or 4 sophs playing, the rest freshman, they won't be as bad as you think. The upper 2 grades will have very low numbers next year if they don't get any new bodies but they should have some good numbers in the lower two grades. Don't look for the bulldogs to be down more than a year or two tops.

Injuries or not. I hope Coach Billker doesn't call off the Dawgs until it's around 70 - 0.

ITS ALMOST GAME TIME ROLL DAWGS ROLL

I think he will do the same as the Garaway game and get the JVs in when we are up 3-4 scores.....

smithies hung tough in this game - they are not a bad cllub and will win some league games. Passing game was nonexistent (as I expected with a young qb). Steiner runs very hard, though and the smithville o line does a solid job of run blocking, some pretty good hitters on defense as well. Both teams turned the ball over deep in their opponents territory once (although hackett's was not really a fumble IMO. Would have liked to have seen the bulldogs try to throw it a few more times as I think it would have been there. Also, for the second game in a row I thought they came out without a lot of emotion. Always a hard fought rivalry.
