Marlington Dukes vs Northwest Indians
-
BrutusThe start of the NBC. Marlington has beaten Northwest the last two years. This is Northwest last year in the NBC. In order for the Indians to win a league title they must win this game against a very big powerful and lighting fast duke team. Northwest will have to play mistake free football to have a chance. Marlington just might be the best team in the state. NBC FOOTBALL IS ALLWAYS A BATTLE.
-
dukes1986This could be a good one !!!
-
skiisme753Marlington knows exactly what they are in for against NW. Spend all week defending the passing game because NW doesn't run and on the rare occasion they do its to Beers in motion. NW is extremely predictable on offense and will get eaten alive on the field on Friday.
-
Brutusmarlington is by far the better team. here comes the triple option. stop it and its a close game. let thomas in the open and say good night. hill will run smash mouth . those two make this team . marlington has a great line. but those two super star high school backs could play for a college team now. northwest mistake free football do as the coaches say and stay in in it anything is possible.
-
ThinthickbigredWhy is Northwest out? Is Salem taking theyre place?
-
Drums of WarLet me be the first to say that things do not look good this week. We had Springfield against the ropes last week and repetedly shot ourselves in the foot to let them almost come back and bite us. This is by far the most undiciplined team I have seen @ NW in years. With 134 penalty yards against, and 4 turnovers on the night I really can not come into this week with a ton of optimism. I will always be on the sidelines rooting my heart out, but if the dukes are what everyone says they are this year, we could be in for a long night.
-
Brutusthe 2 headed monster will be hard to stop. ia, guessing hill runs a 4.4 and thomas runs a 4.3
-
fpfpdadchhVic will have the tribe ready, but the Dukees might have too much. I would love to see this one stay competitive.
-
NWIndianNation01The only chance we have this week is if we play mistake free football....which includes containing the Dukes running attack, being better on special teams, not making stupid passes and mixing up the play calling.
As much as I want to say we can win this game...I have to be realistic....our chances are very slim.
Prove us wrong Indians! Prove us wrong!
However, Whiting won't have this crappy attitude that all of us fans have. He will have the boys ready to fight and play their very best.
Go Indians! -
skiisme753Marlington was the underdog the past 2 years and they came out with 2 notches in the win column. Does NW continue the trend on Friday night......doubtful, but the defense has been the only thing NW has come close to doing right this season.
NW seems to be moving in a very negative direction as a program and not focusing on the basics of football. -

Wow...thats harsh!skiisme753;482951 wrote:

Drums of Warbut unfortunately accurate.
-
fpfpdadchhThe way that the Canton Repository has been hyping Marlington all season it sounds like they are the best D3 team that have ever put on a uniform in the history of D3. They must be indestructable. Ohio State would have a hard time beating them. Too bad we will be heading down to North Carolina while this game is going on. I will be anxious to get the texts about this game.
-
Brutuswell they might not beat ohio state but mt. union maybe
-
dukes1986fpfp, you never complained all those years when The Rep hyped Northwest. Just be glad the NBC is getting some love instead of the "big boys" of the Fed.
-
boneSome of you Northwest fans make me sick. Just because you may be having a down year does not mean that your program 'is headed in a negative direction'.
it is YOUR communities fault that your school may not be fielding the best team this year. Those kids fought all winter and spring just to be able to have a program and now you wanna say the 'program' is going down hill after a few losses.
Negativity helps no one.
I know for a fact that Whiting is not a negative person. Keep up the community negativity and see what kind of program you manage to scrap together when he gets sick of it and moves on to where he is appreciated.
You NW people are spoiled and can not even recognize a good thing when you got it.
a few losses does not equal a bad program. -
NWIndianNation01Wow...that wasn't needed bone....
I agree with what you said about not actually headed in a negative direction. It is way too early to say something that harsh.
However, slamming on our community is unwarranted when the people on this site and the people that support these kids are the ones who voted yes for the levy issues and are the ones that do everything they can to support our team. We can't help that Canal Fulton and the surrounding areas are full of people that are too ignorant to vote yes on a school levy.
Are we spoiled...probably so....we, the fans, aren't used to losing...and we are just frustrated. Pretty sure we realize we have a good coach...
As for the other negativity on this thread...I would more call it being realistic.
As for this weeks game...practice hard boys...fight like David!
GO INDIANS!
Beat the Dukes! (Or as the cheerleaders would say...umm...Beat Mansfield....haha)
(For those that don't get the above cheerleader joke...it is in reference to their banner at the Firestone game that said something about beating Fairless...just funny....haha) -
NWIndianNation01bone...
a couple more things....
First, I would like to point out that your post greatly resembles a certain poster that I remember from JJHuddle....just saying.
Second, be glad that we aren't like Massillon or some other hardcore football community, in that we don't want to burn down Whiting's house because of a couple losses. Massillon people are nuts! LoL -
boneI am not a Northwest person. I just follow them from afar. Been a friend of Vic's for years. I was also never on jj huddle.
Notice that I said 'some of the northwest fans'
It is pretty sick to be so good for so many years, and obviously have a good program in place, that a few bad seed fans would actually get on a public forum and bash the integrity of your program just after a few losses.
The tigers dont have much of a program yet but if they give Hall a chance they will.
Just because some other schools have bigger and faster kids this year doesn't mean that your program has gone to pot.
Just sad. Where is the support in the bad times too? -
fpfpdadchhIf anyone can affect a team and create a turnaround, its Vic Whiting. These kids are fighters, they will leave it out on the field. They have so much heart and guts, even when faced with adversity. They have a championship heart to them, they are Northwest kids. There is absolutely no "give-up" in these kids. They just need to improve in different facets of the game. I remember oh so well when Vic took a team that started 0-3 and took it to the playoffs. The number of years in a row of playoff appearances speaks volumes of the success of Vic Whiting and his charges and his coaching staff. The community must change their attitude about this program, get off their hands and their butts when they go to their games, and cheer and scream like fans (fanatics) should for their community kids. We get big crowds for our home games, but 3/4 of the crowd sit there and seem to not even pay attention to the game. They introduce the players before the game and the team rushes out on the field and only a sparce amount of people even applaud their local boys on. Couldn't you imagine a Massillon, or McKinley, or Cincinnatti Elder crowd acting like that. And this is a program that holds the longest streak of playoff appearances in Stark Country (the freaking hotbead of High School football in the state of Ohio). OK, I am off my sapbox now!
-
cfnw_prideGood Luck! That is all I have to say!
-
fpfpdadchhIts weird that the Northwest crowds are much more loud and boisterous at away games versus home games. It has always been that way. Just once I would love to see the crowd get on their feet and scream when the defense is out there on a big 3rd down play. I have been to a ton of Massillon games and have seen other school crowds. Every third down they are up screaming and trying to distract the other teams defense. The boys on the field feed off that crowd energy and their adrenaline kicks in.
The Springfield win was great for the morale of the team and coaching staff. A win against Marlington could propel Northwest into another gear altogether. This is a huge game on Friday. The team and coaching staff will be ready, will the fans?
Marlington, you are definitely proving that the hype was correct. I just have to chuckle at the Repository and how each year they latch on to a team. My hope, like it is every year, is that an NBC team wins the state title. I would say that Marlington looks to be a contender. Hopefully we will prove a worthy challenger. -
NWIndianNation01^^^Very nicely put!
LETS GO INDIANS!!!
Maul Marlington! -
skiisme753bone, what NW games have you been to this season? If you watch them from afar then you don't see what is going on. I'm a sports fan - not a cheerleader. If a team does something good I give them credit and if they do something wrong I will say it. And I don't think that other teams really have bigger or stronger kids.
1. RUN,RUN,RUN the football. We have over 1,000 yards passing and only 1 notch in the win column. There is no balance in the offense so as a defender it is really easy to defend when there is little chance of a running play.
2. RUN,RUN,RUN the football. When you are up by 25 points and you throw 3 incomplete passes it takes less than 30 seconds off the clock. Run some time off the clock and punt the football away if you have to. You are keeping the other team in the game much longer than they should. Look at last week where Springfield almost came back and won. Springfield people! Springfield is horrible at football!
3. Special teams need to improve. Enough said there.
And now for the positives:
QB looked good last week checking down to the underneath receivers more and picking up shorter gains compared to the beginning of the season.
Defense has really played well for the most part lead by the animal #40 with over 40 tackles in 3 games.
There are still 7 games left and a chance at a 10th straight playoff appearance, but it will be the toughest test yet to make the post season. -
skiisme753I also agree about the crowd. It's pathetic get up and make some noise and help the team out. Make noise when we are on defense!
