New Albany goes on the road and pulls the huge upset in overtime beating DeSales 13-10!
New Albany had a 3-0 lead at halftime getting a 45 yard field goal late in the second quarter.
DeSales responded with a touchdown and a field goal in the second half to take a 7 point lead. New Albany then got the ball with around 3:00 to go, and they drove about 80 years to score to game-tying touchdown. After kicking the ball into the endzone for a touchback DeSales was able to move the ball to around midfield before their hail mary was knocked down as time expired.
New Albany won the toss and elected to go on defense and on the second play of the extra period the Eagles forced a fumble which they recovered. Then going on offense New Albany was able to drive the ball down for a 1st and goal inside the 5 yard line. After three run plays bringing up 4th and goal at the three from the left hash New Albany intentionally took a delay of game to give their kicker more room to work with. He nailed the 24 yarder to win the game for the Eagles.
This is the seventh game between these two teams and only the second win for New Albany in the series. This is a HUGE win for the Eagles to take them to 3-0 with a great road win over the #1 ranked team in the state in D-3 who already has two players committed to play for Big Ten schools.
This was a fun game to be at and a fantastic win for New Albany! LET'S GO EAGLES! State 2010!
