Week 3 Eastwood vs Oak Harbor

  • Rocketsfan
Eastwood visits Oak Harbor this Friday. Thoughts on this game ? Oak Harbor is much improved this year and are heading in the right direction. A close loss last week to Genoa should have gotten some people's attention. OH's defensive line is playing well and should be a good test for Eastwood's stable of running backs.

Oak Harbor has been showing a lot of improvement through their scrimmages and their first two games. I think Eastwood is a little better but Oak Harbor is definitely a team on the rise!

Eastwood's runnings backs are too much for the Rockets this week. Conner, Pitts, and Conkle will be leading the pack and all 3 could break loose at any moment. Also the new 3-5 defense (I know it was Rossford) looks like its getting better with the Hayward kid looking really good in the middle.

All in all it should be a very good game, and I am excited to see it play out!

I think that Oak Harbor's defense will be okay, but Eastwood is probably the better of the teams still this year. This would be a huge momentum boost for Oak Harbor to get a Win in the "W" column and not just a "moral" win like last week.

Good luck Rockets! I'll be cheering for you!

Is Conner expected to play? Pitts and Conkle did a great job last week against an outmanned Rossford but I think Conner might be needed agaisnt OH going off the Genoa result. Heard Hayward and Abke's names called quite a bit last Friday, and the new defense seemed to be very aggressive.

If Connor doesn't play, which I doubt he wont, I like Oak Harbor in this game. The Rockets have a pretty stout run defense that kept them in the game last week. Since OH/Eastwood almost always plays a good game, this should be an especially close one.

Any word on OH's Young? I know he was knocked out of last weeks game late, not sure of the severity.

Oak Harbor has a pretty well balanced run / air attack. This should be a very good game as it appears the teams are fairly well matched. Not to be a homer but I will give OH a slight edge for being at home, and still stinging from a close loss to Genoa.

BW - I have not heard a word about Young. He was at the JV game walking the sidelines just fine.

Thats one thing that does concern Eastwood it the ability to both pass and run the ball. The secondary is still young and inexperienced...

From what I've heard they are waiting on MRI results for Young. Unsure of the extent of the injury but if they send you for an MRI it's usually not a good sign. Also Oak Harbor was without their backup Brian Mallernee last week. If Oak Harbor cant get Young or Malernee for friday night its going to be very difficult for them to beat Eastwood. All this being said it's pretty much do or die friday night for Oak Harbors playoff chances. If they loose they would need to run the table in the sbc to stand a chance at getting in region 10.

Something else to keep in mind when thinking about this game. Oak Harbor produced their best effort in 2 years last week against Genoa. For Oak Harbor to beat Eastwood they will have too play that well again and possibly even better. Can they summon that kind of emotional effort two weeks in a row possibly without their top 2 qb's?

tink, I think its do or die for Eastwood's playoff chances also. The SLL hasn't gotten too many quality wins, if any, through the first two weeks. Hopefully they can get a win this weekend, because I can't really be too confident in them beating Patrick Henry later on. Should be a good game as it usually is between these two teams.

Could very well be karen but I think that Eastwood has a little more wiggle room in region 14 than Oak Harbor does in region 10. Heck 8-2 might not even get Oak Harbor in or worse yet it could get them in with a week 11 matchup with St.Francis Desales or Bishop Watterson. I'm sure some will dissagree but i'd rather my team not make the playoffs than get the "privillage" of driving to columbus to get our asses kicked up and down the field by desales or watterson.
  • karen lotz
Believe me, I agree with you on that. Eastwood's first two playoff appearances were against Watterson and DeSales in back to back years. Not good.
  • karen lotz
Just looked it up, Eastwood's 2nd playoff appearance was against Watterson, the following year they played DeSales in a second round game. Either way both games were complete mismatches.
  • birddog23
Yes indeed. And to even add to the dominance of DeSales, that was one of Eastwood's best teams in their history and they absolutely got walked over.

If anyone can send me text message updates on this game, please PM me.
  • karen lotz
Leo, if I go I will probably just start a thread in the update section and update that throughout the game unless you want text updates for a different reason. I'm not sure if I am going yet or not.

Oak Harbor wins 34 - 7. Eastwood's running backs were not a problem for OH who only gave up one long run for a TD. This will send a message to the SBC. Great win Rockets !

must have been a while since OH won a big game huh?
  • bwcomet89
With or without Connor Eastwood shouldn't have lost by 27 points. If I had to guess, Eastwood's secondary got torched, but since I wasn't there I don't know for sure.
  • Rocketsfan
No Eastwood's secondary did not get torched. It was a steady diet of Jake Scott who scored 5 TDs. Eastwood could not stop the run at all.
  • birddog23
It was Jake Scott left, Jack Scott right, and Jake Scott middle. Eastwood could not figure a way to stop it. Although a lot had to do with very very poor tackling. And to add to it, Mallernee couldve thrown even more on Eastwood, he just picked them apart when OH did throw. The running game along with the O-Line of Eastwood disappointed me a lot last night. It seemed like Conner was getting hit at or before the LOS almost every carry he had.

Also another thing to add. The opening onside kick by Eastwood was virtually perfect from my view. Did anyone else see differently? Not saying that it mattered it all but still just a little confused.

Lastly, I hope OH can find someone else to take the load off of Scott every once in a while or else he is going to be feeling it by the end of the year.
