Week 3: Genoa(2-0) versus Port Clinton(2-0)
-
bwcomet89I figured I'd get this one started. This game has a lot of appeal to me. Genoa and Port Clinton are both coming off expected victories over Rossford&Oak Harbor, and Woodmore&Gibsonburg respectively. Although the recent history of this game doesn't raise any eyebrows towards the appeal this year, the matchup of Genoa's young secondary versus Port Clinton's improving passing attack raises a big matchup that could make this game much closer than the past few years have been. Also Genoa is coming off a narrow victory over Oak Harbor who were able to pass the ball successfully in the first half. What are everyone elses thoughts about this game?

RocketsfanAs an SBC guy I'd like to think that PC can get a victory here. Reality tells me that Genoa still has enough weapons to get the job done. The close game with Oak Harbor probably was a wake up call to the Comets and Coach Vicars will be practicing hard on pass defense. Not sure if PC has a good answer to Genoa's run game, and that will likely be the difference in this game.
Not to hijack the thread but are there any Eastwood posters out there who want to talk about Eastwood v Oak Harbor ? I will start another thread if there is. -
Swamp FoxI think that Port Clinton is playing pretty well and does have an effective passing game, but I think the Comets just have too much to allow a Port Clinton victory here. While it will be an entertaining game for awhile, I like Genoa by 10-14.

I will, but I've only seen them play Rossford so I'm not sure exactly what kind of insight can be drawn from that other than they have some very capable backs outside of Conner who didn't play. I think there are a couple other Eastwood posters who might join in. -

bwcomet89I'd get in on an Eastwood/ Oak Harbor thread, if it hasn't already been started. Should be a very good game.
As far as this game goes. The way I see it is Genoa will be much more prepared for the pass this week, and their running game will be more effective against PC's defense. However, if ever a year PC can beat Genoa, this is it. To my knowledge PC hasn't won vs Genoa since 04'. -
birddog23Looking at the paper the last two weeks I am wondering why Dufendock and Cuevas have not gotten more carries? Dufendock was very good last year running the ball hard.
-
bwcomet89I'm not sure what Dufendock's role on the team anymore is either? He didn't start D the past two games, but last week both he and Cuevas were hurt so that may have contributed to the lack of carries. As of right now it seems to be running back by committee.
-
birddog23Hmmm thats very odd. Maybe some off the field issues or discipline action? After being a starter the past two years on D its weird to not have him out there.

mrtinkertrainFor port clinton to win this game they must.
1. Believe they can win. It sounds silly but when you've been a loser for as long as PC has you get used to loosing and expect it. We've gotta believe we can do it.
2. Our o-line has to play about twice as good as it has the previous two game. Our o-line has been about one step short of terrible for the most part in our first two games. We'll need our 3 sophmore starters to grow up and play like veterans in a hurry friday night.
3. Get the ball in Steve Wingo's hands. He'll be the best athlete on the field for either team and he'll need the ball in his hands more than the 4-5 times a game he's gotten it so far. Wingo is a special player and we've got to do a better job of utilizing him.
Defensively our run defense is still not where it needs to be but our secondary has been outstanding. The run defense will improve as we go along we're just young in the front 7. We're starting 2 sophmores at LB, 1 sophmore and 2 jrs on the d-line and we rotate in 2 sophmores and another jr on the dl. -

You said "we" and "our" several times, are you crossing over? -

Yeah I remember you saying that, I wasn't sure if you had burned the green out of your wardrobe though! -
mrtinkertrainThis was the preverbial " Shit rolling downhill game" if i've ever seen one. This game should have been competitive for all four quarters but Port Clinton made mistakes early and it snowballed on them. All I can do is shake my head and hope this doesnt break our back.
-
Leonardo51-0, Genoa was the final here.
-
bwcomet89Port Clinton would be a damn good team if they weren't so sloppy. 3 turnovers in the first half hour, they picked off Genoa then got a safety, then let Genoa return the free kick for a TD. If PC can do the little things better they may win some SBC games.
-
mrtinkertrainAlot of the errors tonight were forced by your defensive line. Our offensive line is downright terrible and has been all season long. There is no reason why we shouldnt have been able to compete with you guys last night none what so ever. This was an embaressment for us and something that should not have happened.
It's not the coaches fault port clinton fans this one falls squarely on the shoulders of the kids. -
clickclickboomU just contradicted yourself tinkertrain.. if the O-line has been bad all year then how should you have been in the game? none the less a much improved PC team that can move the ball quite well in the passing game
-
mrtinkertrainI think what bwcomet said on that "other" site sums up Port Clinton. He said something along the lines of " Port Clinton would be a darn good team if they just cut out the sloppy mistakes" That's exactly what happened we made sloppy stupid mistakes early and we let them snowball out of control.
