Bellaire Football

  • CenterBHSFan
As a long time fan, I'm wondering how long it will take for the football program to find its legs again.

I know, lots of politics, parents and drama going on. But, I think the turnaround will happen in a year or two, if they keep one coach that long.
No, I know there's alot of people who don't like Bellaire's fans. But, I don't think too many of those folks will be on this site. So let's be cool about it, umkay?

I too hope Bellaire gets things together. What is going on with their coaching situation

Did Coach Bonnar come back and take over yet (sorry if I spelled his name wrong)?
  • CenterBHSFan
That last thing I know for sure, aside from rumors, is that Coach Bonar won his coaching job back in the whole arbitration thing.
The newspaper stated that Coach Davis would not be head coach next year.
    That's all I know.

Seriously, I don't really care if it is one or the other or a new face. Just somebody to stay and implement their own system. One where parents don't have their noses in it and the players know who is boss/coach, and if they want to wear a helmet, they have to exhibit discipline.
At that point, Bellaire will turn the corner.
If that happens, people will just have to stand back and let the coach do his thing.

Very nice post and agree 100%.

I hope everything works out for the kids at Bellaire. They play hard and deserve to be given a chance to win some games.

Glad to see that fans from other schools are supportive of Bellaire!

I think it will be about 2 years or so and then they'll turn the corner. Fundementals and discipline start at the younger ages, let's hope folks have learned their lesson!

I would like to see Bellaire return to a strong team as well. I think most of us want a strong Buckeye 8. It only helps the other teams come playoff time. Their is not a team there that I genuinely do not like or would root against out of spite. I do have to admit at being on the visitor side in Ferry last week though. But I made the trip with a group of Woodridge friends. So you have to let that slide. lol

    icskins,

Don't you think that the visitor side of MF stands is better? I've sat on home/visitor sides and I just think that the view is excellent. Maybe because of the elevation.
  • icskins
I couldn't tell you. I have never sat on the home side there. I do know that the view/seats we had were excellent. It is a very nice stadium. Even has plenty of walking room in front of the seats so it isn't all jammed up. I do have to say the parking left a little to be desired, but that is typical with alot of schools. If they were somehow to get better parking then I would truly view that stadium as one the best around.

I have been on both sides and not counting the lovely lady I set with I like the visitors side better.

I too hope that Bellaire can turn things around.
It makes for a better trip for me when they are good.

As a Bellaire alum, I hope they can makme it back but am worried that the dwindling population may be difficult to overcome.

Is Bellaire open week one next season?
I thought I read where Sheridan as a different game to kick the season off next year.

Be nice to see Bellaire and Newark Catholic hook up for a two game series.
I know Newark Catholic will not be playing Amanda next season. A coaching friend of mine said Amanda conacted him about a game next season because they would not be playing N.C.

Bellaire is playing Wheeling Central week one next year

    Thanks for that info.

    Jamesdster,

I know that Bellaire has been so close to D5 the past few years. It wouldn't suprise me in the least to see that happen in 2 years. :-/
I don't think alot of people, who aren't from the area, understand what it's like to literally lose 1/2 of your town.

Bellaire will get back to it's former standings. It's just going to take time and alot of insensitivity.

Next few years are going to be hard for Bellaire, Bellaire kids will likely transfer too Ferry or Shadyside over the next few years. Rumor has it Rich Materkoski maybe the new Ferry offensive coordinator. Could mean spread offense for Ferry and mean more kids from Bellaire think about coming to Ferry.

There are a number of schools in the Valley that in all honesty should consolidate due to declining enrollment (which will only continue to spiral downwards). The two at the top of the list should be Bellaire/Shadyside and Bridgeport/Ferry.

This makes so much sense for reasons way beyond athletics.

A Bellaire and Shadyside consolidation? What would they call it? Bellaireside? Shadybell (after the old motel)? Shadyaire?

    maybe Bellyside!

Talking about a Ferry-Bridgeport consolidation, you do know Ferry built that new school with that in mind and also has 20 more acres set aside to build on if needed. They did this so Ferry can remain Ferry not some generic local.
  • hawk knight
Bridgeport also has a new school complex on Rout 40 so why would they want to go to Ferry?
I, too, hope that Bellaire gets back on track to not so long ago power days.......Central and Bellaire....I hope more valley teams would be open to Central.......

In about 20 years we will have the Belmont County High School located somewhere in St. Clairsville. Watch it, we're on our way there.
