Week 2: Northwood @ Lake
-
lhs2ndbaseNorthwood finally got the Lakota monkey off of their backs dominating them in week 1. Lake beat Swanton 20-7 in their opener. Thoughts?
Lake IMO will have the emotional edge opening up the newly renovated Flyer stadium, but I dont think pure emotion will get it done. The Flyers were a little tentative up front against Swanton and couldnt run the ball between the tackles at all. Not a recipe for success when playing a team that will be as physical as Northwood. If Lake can't create any turnovers or some kind of ground game it could be a long night. -
areyoukiddingmeI'm not trying to be rude by interrupting this thread, but question:
1. What Northwood player was ejected last night? He will have a 2 game suspension, right?
2. Lake and any other team that plays NWood...."if" you get a chance, run the score up on them and drop cheap shots on this group of kids like they did Lakota.
The Blade's story was pathetic so who knows how many penalty yards (personal fouls on Nwood) were tallied last night. They sent one player to the ER, one had a season-ending injury, etc.
They couldn't even take a knee out of respect for their own player who got injured later.
Their scoreboard sucks (and has since last year)...maybe you should work on that too.
Maybe a little frustrated, even though I'm not from Lakota or Nwood, I did catch this game last night and was completely disgusted on how they treated their visitors.
They even kept Lakota locked out of their locker room at half for quite some time.
Good luck Lake, take it to em. -
bwcomet89Wow, if that is all true that's pretty bad on Northwood's part. I will take Nwood though. They're more consistent on both sides of the ball than Lake.
-
areyoukiddingmeI agree Northwood should win against Lake. And, it isn't "if that's true," it is TRUE! I saw it with my own eyes.

vball10setit'll be an emotionally charged evening, but Northwood has too many weapons...look for Corey Jones to have a huge night
-
Swamp FoxI don't have any reason to dislike the Rangers, but I'm really hoping that Lake can pull this off. There have been much bigger upsets than this one would be. Northwood is very good this year...maybe as good as they have ever been, but Lake does have an incredible emotional advantage if they don't let it become too much of a negative influence. They also have some very nice football players that can hurt you on both sides of the ball. I also believe that Lake may have been looking past Swanton a little bit last week in anticipation of this Northwood game. Home opener, new field, a new start for the whole school district and the chance to beat an outstanding football team to inaugurate this "new beginning". Almost sounds like a movie theme. I couldn't resist picking the upset.

oberhausFrom what i was told, Northwood just flat out manhandled Lakota. The Lakota kids didn't even seem to want to be on the field. Lakota needs to man up and get physical. Can't fault Northwood for playing that brand of ball. Saw the Rangers play last year at PH and they were not as all like you described.
And a 36-0 loss after being down 30-0 at half does not warrant a call for teams to run up the score on them. Looks like they took it easy in the second half. -
Brutus BuckeyeWasn't at the Northwood game, not a Northwood fan, but to me it just sounds like sour grapes from some Lakota fans. They have had Northwood's number here over the past couple years and finally got walloped by the Rangers. Take your beating in stride and move on to next week.
I look for a very tight game here from Northwood and Lake, I do believe that Northwood is much better then Lake but to say that Lake has an emotional edge is the understatement of the decade. Good luck to both teams! -
areyoukiddingmeFirst of all, not sour grapes at all. I'm not from Lakota. Was there as a media person covering the game and was stating my opinion.
Oberhaus, yes, they manhandled a very small and inexperienced Lakota team. Before the game I heard the NOrthwood players talking on the field talking about how they were going to pay Lakota back for the last few years. I have no problem with that ON the field and ON the scoreboard. However, there is NO doubt that their play was classless. Even the officials were sure of that with the over 200 yards of 15-yard unsportsmanlike calls they made. Finally, they had enough and ejected a player. After that, it got better.
As for Lakota not acting like they wanted to play, when I spoke with the coach afterwards, he said his team was beside themselves very early and "out of the game" when they lost one of their better players for the season after a cheap late hit, and had another one sent to the hospital in an EMS. I can understand that. I even witnessed the Northwood players show no respect to their own player who was down while all others were taking a knee, they weren't.
Honestly, not sour grapes, just calling it as it was seen. -
