    BASCOM — Tyler Tyree had a big night for Hopewell-Loudon and the Chieftains used a second- quarter surge to get past Elmwood 35-21 Friday night in non-conference opening-game action.

    Tyree was 11 of 21 passing for 174 yards and also ran 19 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns for the Chieftians, who won their ninth straight game against the Royals.

    After Elmwood tackled Tyree in the end zone for a safety in the first quarter, the Chieftains surged back as Cody Ickes scored from five and one yards. Tyree added a 33-yard scamper in the quarter as H-L took a 20-8 lead into the half.

    Ickes, who ran for 40 yards on nine carries, sprinted in from 30 yards out and Tyree found the end zone from 19 yards away in the fourth quarter.

    Nathan Wacek ran for 97 yards and touchdowns of three and one yards in the second half for the Royals.

    Jack Waldock hooked up with T.J. Waldock for Elmwood’s other touchdown, a 58-yard pass in the second quarter.

    T.J. Waldock caught six passes for 179 yards, while Jack Waldock was 7 of 18 passing for 192 yards.
