WEEK 1: CAMPBELL MEMORIAL AT MINERAL RIDGE

  • BigDean1
This is the first ever meeting between the two schools. Both have a nice nucleus of players returning. Campbell is looking for its second straight OHSAA playoff berth. Your thoughts on this matchup?

should be a good one!! good luck devils

I believe Ridge returns 6 on each side of the ball. They are big up front I believe and are very good at taking care of blocking assignments.

Dont know about speed and I am hearing mixed rumors about their QB so once again I don't know what to believe. He's playing...he's not...he is, whatever. Nonetheless we are playing there and they have no intention of lying down. We have to tackle, we have to block, and we have to be aggressive or we start the season 0-1. Plain and simple. I know alot are hyping up Campbell. And it is nice to hear the good reviews for a change. A positive is always good. But remember this....hearing good things doesn't get you a win.

some of the kids told me ridge is big and physical...they seem cautiously optimistic but dont seem to be taking ridge lightly...

There is no reason they should take them lightly.

Good luck! Should be an interesting match. This game will go a long way for playoff hopes for the winner.

There's no reason they should take anybody lightly Bigdean. I know we agree on that.

Like I said on the Campbell Facebook page.....on paper we win this game. But we play on Grass...not on PAPER.

Oldschool said it, could be huge in terms of points for playoffs.

I have a feeling we will be talking to ourselves all year Campbell posters. I mean we cant get another team to respond to save our lives....unless they are from Salem.

You can take Route 11 to 80 to exit 223, which is route 46 in Niles. You can then follow that all the way to Seaborn Street in Mineral Ridge. Make a left on Seaborn Street and the stadium is right there. Or if you are going to leave work early and take your time getting there, just get on 46 here in Boardman and drive through Austintown, Niles, and into Mineral Ridge that way, making the same left turn on Seaborn.

    Greetings from Austintown.....

Regarding the directions (not nitpicking B'Dean), if you travel North on 46 you'll get to the stadium long before Niles......it's actually just about a mile or so from the I-80 & 46 interchange. Seaborn is marked.

heard from a reliable source at work this morning that some of the mineral ridge seniors have already scheduled a victory party for after the game....they must be taking us pretty lightly.

MY ANALYSIS: first half was god awful on defense, we were completely lost who had the ball....they ran off tackle all day and our ends were no where to be found. they had almost 200 yards rushing in the first half...only threw the ball twice i think. offensively in the first half we were solid...were gonna score points all day but the question is are we gonna give up points all day too? sikora got hurt on the second play of the game and limped around the rest of the game...defensively we had no push off the line in the first half and i seldomly saw anyone in the backfield...the second half came and we made adjustments. which was very encouraging to see. we were just lost in the first half plain and simple. but we cant continue to play with fire like that. but it was positive to see us make our adjustments and show we were better defensively than in the first half...we gave up 20 yards rushing in the second half and recovered two turnovers. the aggressiveness was there in the second half. once again our offense was explosive in the second half...skevo had a huge game, hes the fastest guy on the field and flys by everyone, he needs to get more touches on the ball. richard scored a long td early but didnt get many touches after. jales had a monster game as well running and catching the ball...hes made great improvement. runs the ball hard. special teams...someone please tell carney just because you have a good punter and kicker it doesnt mean you dont have to run down and try and tackle someone lol the coverage on special teams was horrible. skevo returned the kickoff so it makes special teams look better...but let there be no doubt the coverage teams are in trouble right now. lester had a real solid game...he makes that offensive line look good sometimes. very accurate just has to continue to make good decisions...some of the receivers dropped a couple balls which hurt him, claxton drop a 70 yd td. all in all...first half garbage...second half encouraging. they better not do that next week because south range just put a hurting on a playoff jfk team. we beat range...our playoff chances skyrocket. but lets temper expectations and work on our weaknesses because we defintely got some.

    ^^^^^^^^^

I agree with most everything soupcitysoldier states in his post. I thought the Campbell offensive played exceptionally well last night. The Red Devils have so many weapons on offense which will create problems for opposing defenses. Coach Sikora did say that some of the first half defensive problems were the result of not being lined up correctly. One thing my fellow CMHS huddlers and I did notice was that when #44 Horvath and #22 Clinkskale went into the game on defense things seemed to settle down. If it weren't for one breakdown on a 4th and 15 in the fourth quarter, Campbell's defense shuts Mineral Ridge out in the second half. I did see some missed tackles throughout the game. Campbell has to shore that up and get more aggressive. The offensive line played well. Campbell has got to cover kicks much better than they did last night. If they don't, I expect to see a kickoff or punt return taken to the house against that coverage. Zudakov is a great kicker. But we can't expect him to kick the ball into the end zone on every one of his kickoffs. He had some good hang time on his punts. The coverage team was just not getting downfield. The Devils can't contnue giving opponents a short field as a result of poor kick coverage. Mineral Ridge is a fine team. They are going to win several games this season. They will not face another team in the regular season with the athletes and speed that Campbell has. Good luck to the Rams the rest of the way. For Campbell, it's another tough challenge next week vs. South Range in the home opener at John Knapick Field.
