    Joe Eitel is amazing, I remember when I was in HS ('93-'96 football seasons) we used to have to wait until week 4 when the OHSAA/newspapers would put out the computer rankings. And with those, you typically had to wait until Wednesday of the following week to see the updated rankings.

    Joe gets it done in less than a day usually.

    I would like to see the updated rankings. Things are tight for a few teams and getting very interesting.
    It will be an exciting second half of the season to see who gets in.

    We are so spoiled. Before Joe we had to wait until Wednesday when OHSAA released the ranks, now if Joe takes a weekend off we are lost :)

    no days off now Joe its getting fun now . Region 11 is getting crazy East Liverpool is up and coming and so is Edison and Indian Creek . Dover is taking this year off . So more teams are joining the fun .

    It used to be easy to figure your own region, when they used the full value formula instead of the portion value that is now used. You just added full value points each week and you knew, now it's 10 percent each week and I lost track of the formula because it is too confusing :(

    LOL waiting on div 4 reg 13. Perry took a hit. memorial is going to push closer to the top 3 I'm sure . cant wait to see the new rankings. Campbell memorial has a big game that can put them in 1st or second with a win.

    COMPUTER RANKINGS EXAMPLE

    * Team A, a Division III school, is 3-0.
    * Each opponent Team A has defeated is Division III.
    * Opponents 1 and 2, which Team A has defeated, are each 2-1, with their victories coming over Division III schools.
    * Opponent 3, which Team A has defeated, is 1-1, with its victory coming over a Division III school. Opponent 3 has had one open date.

    First level points - 15.0 points {3 wins times 5.0 points (for defeating Division III opponents)} divided by 3 (the number of games Team A has played thus far) = 5.0000 first level points.

    Second level points - 10.0 from Opponent 1 {2 wins times 5.0 (for defeating Division III opponents)}, 10.0 from Opponent 2 {2 wins times 5.0 (for defeating Division III opponents)} and 5.0 from Opponent 3 {1 win times 5.0 (for defeating a Division III opponent)} for 25.0 points. These 25 points are then divided by 99 (since Opponent 3 thus far has had an open date) and multiplied by 10 = 2.5253 second level points.

    Total Points: 5.0000 (first level points) plus 2.5253 (second level points) = 7.5253

    NOTE: Say during week four, Opponent 1 has an open date. Then the second level points divisor for Team A after week four becomes 98, since Opponent 3 has had one open date and now Opponent 1 has had one open date.


    HOW TO READ YOUR OHSAA COMPUTER RANKINGS
    LEVEL-1 LEVEL-2 AVERAGE RANK CITY HIGH SCHOOL NAME
    15.0000 25.0000 7.5253 1 A-TOWN TEAM A

    * To find out what the first level average is, divide the 15 points by the number of games Team A has played to date (15 divided by 3 = 5.0000)
    * Next, subtract the 5.0000 from the total average of 7.5253. This number (2.5253) shows what the second level average is.
    * So, 5.0000 first level points plus 2.5253 second level points = 7.5253 total points.
    * To find out what divisor was used to determine second level points, divide the total level-2 points (25.0000) by the second level average (2.5253). So, 25.0000 divided by 2.5253 = 9.8998138. This means the divisor used was 99, which shows that one of Team A's opponents has had an open date.

    NOTE
    Please keep in mind that forfeitures of games, cancellations of games and the filling of open dates all greatly impact the rankings from week to week. In addition, results reported to the OHSAA are occasionally accidentally reversed. These are corrected once accurate information is relayed to the OHSAA.

    Like I said it was easy when they used full value each week, but since they started using the divisor it is to much. All because when they used actual full values after 4 or 5 weeks the numbers were to high for the top teams making the middle and lower teams appear as if the were out of it so instead of being 20 to 30 points behind , with the divisors it comes out to only 2 or 3 points difference like last years finals were 238 to 211 ( 27 pts diff) but the divisor made it 23.8 to 21.1 ( 2.7 pts diff) so it makes it appear like the races were all closer than what they were, OHSAA smoke and mirrors. that's why I still figure total number but in the last week move the decimal over one spot.

    Here is the formula from my Excel workbook. It's not that difficult, as pooter pointed out.

    =(E2/(C2)+((F2*10)/G2))

    E2 = Level 1 points
    C2 = Number of games played
    F2 = Level 2 points
    G2 = L2 Divisor (total number of opponents' OHSAA-recognized games, for which I copy over L2 divisor from JoeEitel... yes, I cheat!)
