Week 1: Akron Buchtel - 29 @ Massillon - 13 (Thursday August 26, 2010)

Maybe the kid from Oregon will have to come in? I heard he is the real deal. He already has his sights set for Stanford, according the news article I read about him.

Couldn't believe this one! Was at the game last night and Massillon's offense was non-existant...you cannot win a game when you throw six interceptions. I still want to know though, when you know your QB is not getting it done, why on earth do you not put the other guy in and give him a chance. I will be shocked if the kid from Oregon doesn't get some chances in the coming weeks.

Something I did find really interesting though is that there was a lady sitting behind us....all garbed up in Massillon stuff...but she wasn't watching the game...she was cross-stitching...never seen that before. LoL

Although Buchtel had some good athletes...I don't think that they were a better team...Massillon just gave up too much and handed the game over to Buchtel on a golden plate.

I got home last night after the game and hurried to this thread in hopes of being the only person to pick Buchtel, but the poll had closed. :(

good job, Pitman, maybe I will take you to Vegas the next time I go. hehehehehe

A few people picked Buchtel on Yappi. If Massillon doesn't get organized and fix their QB play Firestone will CRUSH them. Right now I'll take the Falcons by 21 in Paper Title Town.
  • NWIndianNation01
I have a feeling that Massillon will have their act together before they play Firestone...I don't see them losing to the Falcons...

I feel bad for the Tonn boy.. He's just a young kid who was fed to the lions last night. I don't think it really matters what QB they throw out there, if the OL doesn't do a better job blocking for the pass and run game teams will just tee off on whoever is in there.. I know he ended up with six picks not all his fault.. I understand he is the QB and it all falls on him but give the kid a chance to bounce back before we just count him out.. If you want to bench everyone who had a bad game last night you will be left with a couple starters at best..
  • NWIndianNation01
I agree that the OL was terrible, however, the passes were bad no matter what the pressure was...as someone else said...the armstrength just wasn't there...

I don't think you should totally discount the kid...he is ONLY a sophmore...but I think the other kids should get some snaps as well. Maybe do a rotation.

I also feel bad for him because it was his birthday....I couldn't imagine a worse birthday...yuck.

Good luck to Tonn and the rest of the Tigers for the rest of the season!

    Paper Tigers got beat.

    How about that ?

Buchtel should assure itself of the playoffs with the win.

The Tonn kid will be alright, he floated alot of passes last night, I'm sure due to nerves, he'll settle in and be alright, trust me, the kid is a fighter. I think that Massillon should have established the run last night before going to the air, let the kid hand the ball off to Winters, Reiman and Nalbach, get his feet wet and then slowly work him in. Of the 6 int's, i'd say that only three of them are directly on Brody's shoulders, you can't start a sophomore at Massillon and let him throw the ball 35 times in his first game, just can't be done, Brody's final numbers are 16 of 35 for 211 yds and a td, with the 6 int's. I think overall, that Massillons D played pretty well last night 14 of their points came directly off of the kick ret. and the int ret for a td. The others were set up by giving buchtel a short field all night. Massillon's DB's picked off Jones last night 3 times. One of the few bright spots last night was the play of CB Tyler Allman, breaking up several passes to taller recievers.

This whippin that Buchtel put on us last night just may be the best thing that could happen. Time will tell.

Thanks for the kind words from guys like NWIndianNation01 & Tusky97, to the guys like Viking and Paladin, who just have to put their "paper" digs in, I sure would like to meet you....up close and personal. Maybe someday.

That assures Massillon of at least 2 losses.

I read in the Canton Repository that Massillon kicked off to start both halves. I guess the Massillon coach was blaming himself and the rest of the coaching staff for that mistake and also for not having the team ready. I think Massillon will right the ship in a hurry and I would hate to be next weeks opponent.

I'll be in Paper Title Town to watch Firestone run all over the Tigers. Give me a holla if you want. I'll let you buy me a couple of pops.

I was so confused when Massillon kicked off the second half.....what happened there? Was it a mistake or was done for a reason?

Buchtel deffered to the second half and Massillon for some reason elected to kick the ball in the first half. First time I've ever seen that.

Now Capone, even you aren't stupid enough to think that things cant change in a six week period....Or are you.

That is really odd! I have obviously never seen that either. Seems like a bone-head move.

UMMMMMMMMM you have 6 mins to get your picks in!!!!!

I listened to a good bit of the game on the Tiger website. I wasnt sure if you guys were on thursday or not so I missed part of the game. Big Red's game was over by the start of Massillon's . Alot of turnovers I see . I am sure they will iron out the problems they have by the time Big Red comes to town . I predict they will handle Glen Oak .
Bucktel may just be a very good team this year . I saw them last year and they were big and talented.. With a guy like Powers at the helm they could also be getting alot of the Akron talent so who knows.

We will find out this coming Saturday whether Buchtel really has anything or if the Massillon game was a fluke. Buchtel playes in Pittsburgh against Pgh Central Catholic, a very good team. I will be there (Big Red plays McKeesport in the opening game that day) and I'm looking forward to seeing both games.

Coach Hall said, "we did some good things, we did some bad things. We allowed a kick return for a TD, that's not Brody's fault, we muffed a couple of kickoffs, again, not Brody's fault, we missed tackles, that's not on Brody's shoulders either".

He also added this, "Brody got his first start thursday night, he'll get his second start next thursday".

Skank, your turn for the week two thread! Lets go, get on the ball!! :D
