  I can't speak for other schools, but Steubenville has been doing this off and on for the past 15 years or so. Our opening game is on a Thursday night before school starts. Since most other schools don't play that night, we get a bigger attendance.
  
  This year WTOV9 is sponsoring some sort of rally involving eight teams and four games. Two will be played in Steubenville: Big Red against Inkster, MI, at 6:00 and then a later game between SCC and Bridgeport. The other games will take place in Wheeling: Park against Morgantown and then WCC against Bellaire.

  Seems like NE Ohio does this the most. I grew up in NE Ohio and there's always Thursday games week 1 (Lisbon vs. Leetonia has been the big one near me forever), but down here in SE Ohio there never is.
  
  The list for this year reflects that for the most part as well. Most of the ones in other parts of the state are only because they're being put on TV.
